Wandering Son Manga, Volume 2 (English) Guest Review by Kayden L
2012-01-19 15:22:00
Welcome back, I hope you enjoyed yesterday's blackout. As you may have guessed from my many years of writing about it here, freedom of expression is pretty much the one issue I consider to be the single *most* important issue there is. Obviously, as I discuss copyrighted materials here, and post covers and the like, it's critical to me that no one decides that my blog or any of its content must be blocked. Framing SOPA and PIPA as saving American jobs is especially nasty, as it is those very same corporations that supported these bills who have systematically undervalued, underpaid and outsourced the creative efforts of the people who make the material they lay claim to. Of course I support creators' rights and their copyright, but SOPA and PIPA have no stronger provisions for creators. As with LGBTQ content and purges to supposedly "save the children," I feel as if we must be extra vigilant with any designs to block Internet access. Thus, the blackout. Thank you for bearing wi...
DAFT PUNK CLASS
2012-01-16 18:01:00
Dani, an English teacher that's currently working in Korea, recently exposed her 7th grade kids to the magic of electronic music group, Daft Punk. The premise was to use the band's music to encourage learning among the children. The following is the result--a funky little performance that not only looks cool, but also helped the students with their English word recognition. Literally too cool for school!
Yuri Webcomic: Girly, Volume 4 (English)
2012-01-15 22:10:00
The last volume of Josh Lesnick's Girly series, Girly Forever, is a testimony to passion. Passion for cartooning, first and foremost, but also the obvious, laudable, passion Otra and Winter have for one another. Having established Winter and Otra as a couple in previous volumes, Josh felt comfortable splitting them up for a good chunk of this story. But, before we get there, in Volume 3, there's a number of flashbacks and story building leads that we need to get through, then a few digressions and premature story starts and stops and then, suddenly, in Volume 4, the plot is a gigantic ball of story elements moving downhill and gathering complications like a webcomic version of Katamari Damacy. When I was reading the chapters that would become the last volume as a webcomic, it was maddening. I would save up a few months of strips at a time, in order to feel like something was happening. Reading it as a volume, I found it worked much better than the previous volumes in terms of na...
Revolutionary Girl Utena Anime Box Set - Volume 2, Disk 2 (English)
2012-01-12 22:20:00
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Volume 2, Disk 3 provides a whole lot of food for thought, doesn't it? So, first of all, let look at the final of the puppet duelists for the Black Rose, Nanami's henchchick,Keiko. Like Wakaba, Keiko's story hurts. It hurts, because she's not one of the beautiful people and not one of the chosen. She's a real person, with big gaping flaws, but we can't quite hate her, or dismiss her, as we might Tsuwabuki, precisely because, like Wakaba, her dreams are so mundane. Anyone might wish for a moment alone with their idol. It's a dream that is dull as dirt. As a result, when Nanami is horrible to Keiko, we feel it. When Yuuko and Aiko are horrible to her, it's especially unforgivable. And, at last, we reach the core of the Black Rose story, and the illusions with which Mikage has wrapped himself. The story, however one looks at it, is at best, creepy and self-serving. At worst, it's possible the single most depressing illusion in the entirety of the se...
Princess Knight Manga, Volume 1 (English)
2012-01-12 03:42:00
In 1954, Tezuka Osamu began the first serialization of a series called Ribon no Kishi, Knight of the Ribbon. In the subsequent four serializations, the story was altered slightly and even had a sequel. But, throughout these iterations, the main story held true - in a country in which the position of ruler was entailed, so that only a boy could become King, a daughter is born. To hide her true nature, she is brought up as a boy, Prince Sapphire. In the 1977 reworking, Sapphire is endowed with two hearts, that of a boy and that of a girl. The boy's heart makes her athletic, honorable and strong. The girl's heart makes her emotional and weak. Yes, yes, I know, it's exhausting. Think of Tezuka like your grand (or great-grandfather if you're young) who never did figure out what the 60s and 70s were about and didn't understand why feminists didn't like having the door opened for them. Sapphire is, in any case, stuck in a bad situation. Although she'd like to be a "normal" girl, i...
K-ON! Anime, Volume 4 (English)
2011-12-23 14:29:00
My day started a little rough, so I thought that I more than deserved a moment to wallow in the pure fun of the K-ON! anime. Volume 4 was the perfect thing to put me in a good mood (although I think I'm a little tired of "Fuwa Fuwa Time" for a while...) In Volume 4, the girls perform for the second time at the school festival, and we learn that Yui's flakey-ness is a lifetime achievement. And we get two bonus episodes in which they spend some random winter days and perform their first show outside school. I've said it before, if you don't like K-ON!, there's nothing I can say to change you to suddenly liking it. If you do like it, there's nothing I can say that you haven't already thought for yourself. "Gosh, Yui's a flake," "Azusa's cute when she's all blushy," "Why has no one killled Ritsu yet?" "Why is Mugi not the Governor of Tokyo?"  I have no doubt that you've thought these things as well. Well...okay, maybe not the last thing. If you've thought anythin...
How to Become an ESL Teacher ? Guide to Teaching English Abroad
2011-12-22 18:45:00
I sat at the front of the classroom with my half-eaten lunch as 28 Japanese 7-year-olds hovered around me peppering me with questions: ”How tall are you? Why are your eyes brown? What’s the best place in America?” Their eyes wide with genuine curiosity and interest, I answered questions in my broken Japanese and signed autographs as they ...How to Become an ESL Teacher – Guide to Teaching English Abroad is a post from the Money Crashers personal finance blog.
K-ON! Manga, Volume 3 and 4 (English)
2011-12-19 21:47:00
Volume 3 and Volume 4 of K-ON! primarily deal with the girls' second and final years in high school. They perform at the school festival, spend lazy days avoiding practicing and drinking tea, busting each other's chops, and having fun together. They hug Azusa, they pick on Sawako-sensei, they sometimes even study a bit or practice a song. I said of the Japanese volumes that they were, like Mugi's tea and cakes, light afternoon refreshment, not meat and drink. There is no substance here, no wisdom for the ages, except perhaps that high school days don't really change much when you look back at them, no matter where you're from. I mean, yes, I must have done a ton of homework - I remember having homework to do every day. I remember filling out college applications too. But when I think of high school, the things I remember are not homework, tests and papers, but things like memorizing Little Riding Hood's dialogue with the Big Bad Wolf...in German. ("Aber Grossmutter, warum ha...
Girly Comic, Volume 3 (English)
2011-12-17 00:30:00
Volume 1 was getting Otra and Winter sorted out as a couple and Volume 2 was them dealing with being a couple...so what on earth could Volume 3 of Girly even be about? That's a darn good question and the book itself had a really hard time getting around to answering it. Volume 3 starts with 4-color pages, that probably took a very, very long time to draw, and the art is actually quite decent. But you know, I don't look at the art in a comic, except as an afterthought. (I know, I know, reading the words first, then looking at the pictures is a really strange way to read a comic, but it's what I do. So sue me.) So the art is sort of wasted on me when the story is focused, basically, on there being no story. Or, no story as far as we, the readers are concerned. There *is* a story of course, and eventually we get around to being told it, then it ends and we all have a good laugh and move on. Volume 3 has some of the best individual comics Josh drew for Girly. I probably laughed ou...
Batwoman Comic, Issues 1-4 (English)
2011-12-15 02:53:00
As a present for being a good girl all year and working hard at my three jobs, I bought myself a tablet as a replacement travel computer. Objecting as I do to Apple's content-censoring decisions, I chose a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, which is now named Tabibito. I spend the first few days getting the hang of the interface, downloading a few apps and rearranging the screen the way I like it. You know, normal stuff. Once I got myself up and running, I loaded up with a bunch of books - first things first. (Over My Dead Body by Nero Wolfe and The Calculus Diaries by Jennifer Ouellette, in case you care.) Then I decided that, if I had the chance, I'd try my hand at reading Batwoman as a digital download. As I've said before, I never was a DC comic reader. And I've been out of American comics for a very long time now. This was as much a way to test out the tablet as to read the comic, but what the heck, while I went through all the steps, I might as well get a review out of it. ^_^ Comi...
Revolutionary Girl Utena Anime Box Set - Volume 2, Disk 2 (English)
2011-12-13 23:02:00
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Volume 2, Disk 2. This is where it gets really good. Up to this point, the Black Rose arc has seemed superficially similar to the first arc. Kanae's rage against Anthy seems overreacting, but we really don't know much about Kanae or Anthy, and hey, we're all creeped out by the portrayal of psychoanalysis in the form of Mikage's Freudian elevator. And Kozue...we've written her off multiple times already. She's not jealous of Anthy, just of her brother. Bro-con, ho hum. But. Now. Shiori is here. Shiori, who sought to hurt Juri, to tarnish her shine, because she was too perfect, too shining. Oh yeah, fandom loves to hate Shiori. But look at it from her side for a moment. Haven't we all had a friend who is popular, talented, attractive and haven't we all wanted, just once, to be better than them in something? Remember this particular moment of jealousy and pain. It will be back. In the meantime, we suffer as Juri tortures herself over feelings ...
My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Cartoon (English)
2011-12-09 01:55:00
Today, we're talkin' ponies. At New York Comic-Con several people I consider to be good friends insisted I simply must watch the new My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic series. These are people whose opinions and sanity I trust so, when the opportunity presented itself, I began to watch the first episode. While I watched that first episode I live-blogged on Twitter, which was pretty hilarious all on its own, as people started to react to my comments. Zac Bertschy of ANN called it spot on, when he said that everyone would tell me that I had to watch at least 6 episodes to really get into it. (Meta commentary FTW!) I admit that a few episodes in, I was begining to question my friendships with those aforementioned people. But indeed, around Episode 6, something happened. The dialogue, which always had a bit of snark, turned extra snarky. When they trotted a Pinky and The Brain reference out, I realized that we had been given a series as close as were are gonna get to the old Bugs ...
Girly Comic, Volume 2 - Girly & Friends (English)
2011-12-06 01:54:00
I'm still making my way through Josh Lesnick's collection of Girly and find myself closing the pages of Volume 2 of the new collection with some reluctance. In Volume 2, Otra and Winter's adventures become more epic, and involve way more people in town than they did previously. In good chapters, this has the effect of giving Cutetown a more 3-D feel. In less good chapters, it feels like a Benny Hill routine. Luckily there are more good than bad chapters. Highlights of volume two are: the rather inexplicable appearance of Collette, Winter's half-sister, the resolution of the Chupacabre story (which turns out to be kind of unpredictably sweet) and the beginning middle and end of HappyCo, the manufacturer of arch-enemies. As I write these down, I'm having a hard time finding things to say about each one...but they were all entertaining when I read them, honest! Well, except for Collette, who I still don't know why she's in the story. Some of the side characters are intriguing...
Revolutionary Girl Utena Anime Box Set - Volume 2, Disk 1 (English)
2011-11-29 22:45:00
The first episode of the first disk of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Volume 2, or what is commonly referred to as the Black Rose Arc, is that staple of long-running anime, the clip episode. Clip episodes became so common around the turn of the century, that in some infamous series, clip episodes were practically more common than actual story episodes. In this case, the clip episode is welcome. Not only does it highlight each duel from the Student Council Arc, (which gives us a chance to relive the duels and their wonderful background music) but it provides an apparently objective perspective of each duel, allowing us to understand the motivation behind the duel, behind any discussion of the End of the World, a World Egg or Revolutionizing the World or other important-sounding nonsense. The story of Nemuro Hall and the Mikage Seminar is set up, and we are quite suddenly dropped into a new, even more obscure arc than the last. Where the Student Council fights to possess Anthy, these new...
Girly Comic, Volume 1 (English)
2011-11-29 22:39:00
After revisiting Cute Wendy, I admit to questioning my faith in the entertainment value of Josh Lesnick's Girly. ^_^ I mean, I liked it loads when it ran online and my original review of the first volume was positive enough to be included as a pull quote on the second volume. But times change and I change and things change.... I'm very glad to say that my opinion of Girly has not changed. I found myself putting other (probably more important) things aside to keep reading this first volume of the new collection, which encompasses both the original Book 1 and 2. Otra and Winter are utterly un-normal, which makes them charming, and their adventures are utterly un-normal enough that one has to actually pay attention to what is going on in order to follow what is going on. In fact, reading Josh's post-volume notes, we realize how much of the apparent randomness and haphazard happenstance is carefully plotted out in advance. For Yuri fans, the real draw here is Otra and Winter. There...
Great (Retro) Anime/Manga Gift Guide 2011 (English)
2011-11-25 16:00:00
I'm staring at my pile of to-watch and to-read anime and manga and I can't but help notice that there are a lot of familiar titles among the mix. And, as it's that time of year again, at which Americans decide what matching pen and pencil set to get their relatives, and otaku Americans decide what anime or manga they should buy to indoctrinate their younger family members, I had a thought. This year, I'm specifically suggesting anime and manga that were awesome and wonderful a decade or more ago and are just as wonderful, now that they are available again. These will all make perfect family watching/reading to brainwash educate your young family members in the ways of anime and manga fandom. And, possibly create a new Okazu reader or two. ^_^ Princess Knight - This is as close to a kernel as we have in America for the concept of "shoujo manga." And, not at all coincidentally, Sapphire is the inspiration for many of our favorite cross-dressing, sword-wielding heroines, La...
Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing Anime, Guest Post by Felix (English)
2011-11-24 02:15:00
It's Guest Post Wednesday! Today we have an exciting post, from long-time Okazu reader and commenter Felix! We're very excited to have Felix join out Guest Reviewer community. Please extend a welcome hand and thank to Felix! Last Exile, Fam the Silver Wing is the story of three girls, each of 15 years of age: Fam Fan Fan, sky pirate and fantastic vespa pilot, Giselle Collette, Fam?s genius navigator and closest friend (whom Fam calls "Gisey"), and the girl they meet, the young princess of the Kingdom of Turan, Millia il Velch Curettola Turan. This is the story of how Fam decides to steal a battleship from the middle of battle, save a princess, and embark on a quest to help Millia save her beloved older sister and their kingdom from the conquering Ades Federation. This story also involves a legend, how once long ago humans left a dying earth but one day returned. The legend of the Exile... When I was first writing this review, I was thinking of doing a detailed synopsis of the f...
K-ON! Anime, Volume 2 (English)
2011-11-20 23:00:00
Although I already reviewed Volume 3 of the K-ON! anime, I finally had time to sit down and enjoy the supersonic movement of the year with the girls in K-ON!, Volume 2. From their first school festival, (and getting Sawako-sensei as their faculty advisor,) to a whole new school year and a new member, all in a few short episodes. I love the gags about Sawako-sensei's years in the Light Music Club. Something about the idea that she was once a heavy metal rocker cracks me up. For fans of the series, the important point of this volume is the appearance of Azusa, her experience seeing the Light Music Club the very first time and being totally blown away. And, really, who wouldn't be? They are ridiculously cute and their music is fun and goofy. As for Yuri, other than the relationships fans have made up in their head...there is none. And that's okay by me, honestly. This series works best when it's about a bunch of friends in a band. Ratings: Art- 7 Story - 8 Characters - 8 Yuri ...
Cute Wendy Comic (English)
2011-11-18 01:14:00
This summer I contributed to Josh Lesnick's Kickstarter for the publication of his webcomic Girly in a spiffy hardcover, limited edition box set. I did this entirely because he had a premium of an Otra and Winter figurine set and I'm helpless before the offer of relatively obscure webcomic figurines. (I'd be the first one lining up to by figurines of Yuriko and Midori, our Yuricon mascots, but as I can't draw and have no toy industry contacts, it's kind of a non-starter.) In any case, I knew once I saw the figurines, I had to be part of the Kickstarter. Who wouldn't be helpless in the face of this? Okay, fine, lots of people who are not me. Anyway, with my very awesome hardcover limited edition box set and the figurines, I received a copy of Cute Wendy, Josh's side comic to Wendy. Where Wendy followed the adventures of Wendy and her sidekick, Cute Wendy was the product of many hours of anime watching, potato chip eating, video game playing, masturbation and exhausti...
Shin Koihime Muso The Complete Collection Anime, Disk 2 (English)
2011-11-16 21:38:00
Is it worse when Disk 2 of Shin Koihime Muso digresses into an entire episode of Bachou needing to go to the bathroom or attempts to actually deal with Ryuubi's ragtag army of heroes defeating the Yellow Turban revolt...with a sing-off? Honestly, I don't know. Ratings: Art - 6 Story - 6 Characters - Everytime I watch this series, the statue of Guan Yu we have here, his eyes get all cold and menacing...shudder. Yuri - Sousou and her various adoring henchicks Loser FanBoy - I've started to think differently about this series. I want to believe that there are remarkably few people who find this all sexy, and more who simply find it amusing. Overall - 2, except for bits here and there that get up as high as 5. The important thing is, that Shin Koihime Musou ~ Otome Tairan is actually better, at least in my memory.

Dolltopia Comic (English)
2011-11-16 02:19:00
Abby Denson's Dolltopia is a light allegory about the plastic dolls we grew up with and what happens when they question their life of plastic conformity and consumerism. I first encountered Dolltopia back in 2008, when Abby gave me a copy of the mini-comic (that's western indie comicspeak for doujinshi) of the series. I was captivated by the idea of toy dolls rebelling against their intended fate, and their desire to be unique and independent. Dolltopia is, as I said, an obvious outsider allegory, that is nonetheless charming for being obvious. Colored brightly in black, white and hot pink, the art speaks of punk roots, and a childhood of cutting and dyeing doll hair. (Which Abby admits to.) For Yuri fans, there is one established girl-doll couple in the series - Candy O and Candy X. They are shown providing emotional support for one another, even in the most stressful times. Honestly, they are a very cute couple. There's also a little guilt-inducing chapter about the way we ...
The Book of Human Insects Manga (English)
2011-11-14 22:48:00
The title Book of Human Insects is an insult to insects. Insects are rarely as harmful to their own species as the humans in this book. If one thinks of insects as grotesque and unlovely, then it's a fitting title, perhaps, as the humans contained within are unlovely at best. There is a real downside to reading too much of Tezuka Osamu's manga for adults. He sees very clearly the kind of corruption power, and the drive for power, leads to. He understands too well how the powerful destroy the innocent without even noticing they exist. Read too much of his manga for grownups, and you might be ready to just pack it all in. In Book of Human Insects we follow a psychopath who has nothing of her own. Instead, she learns from those around her, then steals their identities, their work, their reputation and everything they care about. She wreaks havoc as she moves up in the world, as a world-famous author (with a stolen manuscript) and a award-winning designer (with a stolen des...
Yuri Anime: Shin Koihime Muso (English), Disk 1
2011-11-04 20:37:00
In 1951, photographer Ruth Orkin had an idea for a photograph. When she met student Jinx Allen, she knew she had found her model. The resulting photograph "American Girl in Italy" is now iconic. (For the full story of this photo, read An Image of Innocence Abroad from Smithsonian Magazine.) Take a look at this photo. Click it to see it as large as you can. Note the look on the woman's face. Does it look pained, concerned? Scared? Now look at the men around her. Note them staring openly at her, with what they probably think is admiration. Women readers - how does this picture make you feel? Men, how about you? The feeling I get upon viewing this picture is the same feeling I feel when I watch Shin Koihime Muso. It makes me cringe. There is Yuri in Shin Koihime Musou. Sousou only takes women to bed, she's got the hots for Kanu. Kakuka lusts after Sousou. But that doesn't change the fact that there are people out there getting turned on by the excruciating ...

Chinese Commercial Law Books In English. An Update.
2011-10-18 12:08:00
Nearly every week, I get an email from someone (usually a law student or an in-China company manager) asking what books they should be reading to better understand China's laws and legal systems. About six months ago, I did a post, entitled, Chinese Commercial Law Books in English, setting out four excellent such books. I do these posts so that when I get an email asking for good readings, I can quickly respond with just a link. When I wrote that post six months ago, I commented on how where there used to be very few English language books worth recommending, but now (then) there are four. Since writing that post, no fewer than three more excellent (though somewhat specialized) law books have come out and need to be added to my list. if you want help understanding China's legal system or aspects of it, I recommend the following books for the folllowing reasons: 1.  The Legal System of the People's Republic of China in a Nutshell. Yes, this is part of West's Nutshell series...
English. Johnny English.
2011-10-08 06:58:00
Back into blogging groove again but my laptop is still in limbo. This is why I haven't been posting lately. Today I log in to my blogger account and see some drafts ... oh, where do I begin now? I've been watching movies lately, thanks to the generosity of the Legend Cinema. I particularly enjoyed the last two movies I watched - Johnny English and The Sorcerer and the White Snake. Two different movie genres, proof that LC is bringing to Cambodia different kinds of movies that cater to the interests of the movie-going public. Johnny English  Reborn is the second Johnny English-movie starred by no less than the funny man himself, Rowan Atkinson. The plot is not much to talk about. The movie opens with Johnny English training with monks in a temple perched on top of what-could-be the Himalayan mountains. In self-imposed exile in a remote area surrounded by the Himalayan mountain range,  Johnny is honing his "kung fu" skills and inner self under the guidance of the old...
Ichiroh! Manga, Volume 5 (English) Guest Review by Ayra
2011-10-05 23:51:00
Welcome back to Guest Review Wednesday here on Okazu! Today I am delighted to welcome back Ayra for a review of the last volume of this series. Thank you Ayra, thank, thank you! As always, it's a genuine pleasure to have you here. The decisive moment is here! In this final chapter of Ichiroh!, Nanako, Akane and company finally take the series of exams that will determine their fate. Will they pass and become proud university students, or will they fail again and become niroh? Upon reading long-running stories, it's not uncommon to feel as if the author ran out of ideas regarding the setup of the story and its characters. This is, unfortunately, the case for Ichiroh!, Volume 5. Even the author mentions that Nanako's year as an ichiroh (nickname for someone who failed the university exams in their first year of studying to retake them) could not be dragged out further. This lack of ideas unfortunately shows quite clearly within the first few pages. All volumes of Ichiroh! h...

Yuri Anime: Yuru Yuri Guest Review by C. Banana (English)
2011-09-30 20:10:00
One of the great joys for me as curator here at Okazu, is when our readers escalate into advocates and reviewers in their own right. It's been my pleasure on multiple occasions to present to you reviews by readers who have decided to commit themselves to a higher level of engagement. Today's Guest Review is especially wonderful, as it was written by long-time Okazu reader and commenter, C. Banana, someone whose views rarely match mine, but whose perspective I appreciate.  CB is writing about Yuru Yuri, a slice-of-life anime available legally and for free on Crunchyroll. As the first "Yuri" anime from Ichijinsha (publisher of Comic Yuri Hime magazine) this is a significant anime for Yuri fans. The story is a very understated "wacky adventures of four girls goofing off."  As this was a series I myself did not enjoy, CB offered to step up and write a review for us. Please welcome our newest Guest Reviewer with all the warmth I expect from the Okazu audience! Ah, the...
K-On! Anime, Volume 3 (English)
2011-09-29 00:27:00
(I apparently never watched or reviewed Volume 2 of this series. Woops. I'll do that asap.) Summer has arrived for the girls in K-ON!, Volume 3 and, with the arrival of new recruit Azusa, they get to relive all the same moments of their first summer together over again! And then there's wacky old Yui, who still knows nothing at all about her guitar. Hee Hee. And let's never stop mentioning Mio's underwear, shall we? Don't get me wrong, I love watching the band goofing off, not practicing, playing ball on the beach, etc, etc, but storywise, you have to admit, it does look a lot like the same episodes over again at this point. The big difference is this time they get a band name at the end of it. Once again, I did not watching the dub, as I never do, nor did I listen to the interview with Ritsu's dub actress. I did watch the English dub version of "My Love is A Stapler," which my wife and I both thought sounded like a high school girl singing a song, so A for verisimilitude,...

Your bio tells a great story of being in the right places with the right people , hows it going with shredguy ? is this another good stroke of luck ?  I actually was turned onto ShredGuy by 2 people, first awareness was through Rusty Cooley, 2nd with a fellow shredder by the name of  Pete Pachio in 08' of whom we did a re-make of my demo song Flight of the blue phoenix (a demo song to Mike Varney Shrapnel records back in the early 90's) , Mike McDowell was kind enough to add us to the Shredding Across The World Vol. 2 release.  He then added me on the roster of Vol. 3 with G-THEORY, which I redifinedin the release of INNERPLANETARIUM with of course a full band.  What do shredguy do for you as alot of guys just do their own thing and deals with record companies are quite rare arent they ? ShredGuy has done alot in the way of getting contacts and full page adds in guitar world, guitar legends, fuzz, guitar plus, fire works and more to come....

Adrian English: new album is really great
2011-04-21 11:32:00
There are songs that really really hit home with me such as the cool Paranormally and the ballady Velvet Rain where Adrian at least tries to restrain himself (and does pretty well, adding some nice harmony work to the mix). Harmony Creek is another slow ballad where the melodies rule for the most part. He really shows he does have a nice sensitive side to his playing. Nice tone, great playing and an overall really great song. Album closer Closure shows another side as well, where Adrian brings out the acoustic and shows he does his thing also in this context. All in all a really great album, which shows a guitarist that has taken a huge leap since the first album. Well done, indeed!! more

Robin Van Persie, Arsenal forwardYesterday saw one of the most exciting sporting events I've seen all year.  There was no last second basket, no field goal as time expired, nor was it a walk-off home run.  In fact, it was a game tying penalty kick in extra time as Liverpool salvaged a draw with London-based Arsenal in English Premier League Football. Had it not been for two injury delays, the game might have ended in a scoreless draw.  And it still would have been more intense and hard fought than some American football contests. Before you start thumbing your nose at "the beautiful game," realize that the Premier League features a lot of the top talent in the world.  The level...

If the wild bowler thinks he bowls, Or if the batsman thinks he?s bowled, They know not, poor misguided souls, They too shall perish unconsoled.
