Presenting at the Open Groups "Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Confer
2008-04-22 12:35:00 I'll be presenting tomorrow at the "Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference 2008". As usual this Enterprise Architecture (EA) Practitioners Conference is being hosted by the Open Group, the custodians of the extremely popular TOGAF EA Framework (it stand for "The Open Group Architecture Framework"). TOGAF is currently used by 80% of the Forbes Global Top 50 companies, and has emerged as a leading framework amongst Enterprise Architects for developing information systems architectures. The strap line of the conference is "Successful Enterprise Architecture" and through the use of working application case studies and peer-group discussion, the event will demonstrate how the framework used is central to the development of an effective Enterprise Architecture. I'll be presenting "Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture": exploring a number of major customer engagements, including an Enterprise Architecture team which led its company into a 70+ million pound 'pitfall',...
Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture - Event Update
2008-02-28 05:53:00 Just a short post re: the "Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture" event I presented at last week for the Birmingham Branch of the BCS. Pleased to say that the event went very well, with a very good turn out, and I was told that it was almost twice the size of the average group meeting and the largest for the preceding year. Sadly I only presented a few slides, although I spoke for almost two hours, and I won't be posting them in the short term for two reasons, first, there were only a few slides with no electronically captured notes, and second, I have a couple more presentations and talks to give on the topic, and this material will be the basis for them (more details below). Basically the areas I covered, without giving too much away, were: What is Enterprise Architecture ? Public Definitions of Enterprise Architecture (EA) My Definition of EA (as a practitioner) An overview of the major EA frameworks A comparative analysis of the major EA Framework variants, with parti...
Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture event this coming Monday
2008-02-14 16:28:00 I'll be presenting three Enterprise Architecture case studies on Monday at a joint Birmingham BCS Branch and Professional Institute Network West Midlands (PIN WM) event called "Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture". The event, 6:00pm for 6:30pm until 8:30pm, on Monday the 18th of February, 2008, is being held in the Trophy Suite of the Tally Ho Sports & Conference Centre (Pershore Road, Birmingham, B5 7RN, next to the Police Training College). Your welcome to come along and see me present and talk on the subject, and if you do come along because of reading this blog entry then make sure you say "Hello". There's more information on the Birmingham BCS Branch event page "Case Studies of Enterprise Architecture" (and is also listed with PIN WM too). There's a free buffet available from 6pm. Please contact Walter Milner (w.w.milner-AT-bham.ac-DOT-uk)- if you intend to be present, so the amount of food and drink for the buffet can be planned. For those not familiar with Ent...
Enterprise Architecture @ Sun Microsystems
2007-08-24 09:06:00 As I mentioned in this post Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference 2007 here is my presentation in full from that event - along with the speakers notes. Not yet attached is the overview of differing architectural skill / capability 'domains' which I 'white-boarded' at the event - but I'll do a post later which includes a web friendly version of that and link it in. Don't forget that you can use the 'Body Image Size' function over on the right hand side to resize the images to something you find more acceptable. Enjoy ! Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, 2007
2007-08-23 22:48:00 I've finally prepared my slides from when I presented at the Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, 2007, so just thought I'd finalise by covering the day and getting the slides online... I have to say it was a great day - Enterprise Architecture (EA) is one of my favourite disciplines and getting to present on the subject for the conference was something I'd looked forward to since the previous years event. The conference was hosted in Paris, at the Paris Hilton, just off the Sienne - it was hosted by the Open Group, and I was kindly asked to present by John Spencer, the recently retired Director of The Open Group's Architecture Forum, and once I was there I was warmly welcomed by Allen Brown, the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Open Group. As you can probably guess I'm very passionate about EA, in fact any (almost all) of the methods and techniques for getting a contextual, "Big Picture" view of an IT / IS estate ecosystem (what I like to call 'M...
Just back from speaking at the Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Confer
2007-04-25 00:02:00 Just got back from the Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, 2007. What an absolutely great day, I'll get a better update out tomorrow now, along with my slides. I got my best reception ever today, everybody clapped for what seemed to be a good while, with over half the room standing in ovation. It felt brilliant that they all appreciated my retelling of Sun's experiences in Enterprise Architecture. Have to type the speaker notes up to go with the slides though - this year I went with a very minimal slide set, but twenty-six A5 pages of speaking notes (just making the 30 minute slot), whereas last year I went for very busy slides with less speaking content. I met some lovely people, and especially my hosts from the Open Group, spending some time with Allen Brown, the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Open Group (short bio here), and briefly with Mike Lambert, the ex-CTO of the Open Group. Then as I was just coming home I bumped into Chris Loughran,...
Presenting at the Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, 2007
2007-04-22 00:13:00 Pleased to say that I'm due to speak next Tuesday (the 24th of April) at the Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, 2007. John Spencer, the recently retired Director of The Open Group's Architecture Forum, kindly asked me if I'd like to present, and I was very happy to be able to accept. I'm presenting on the topic of "Enterprise Architecture @ Sun Microsystems" and will be covering Sun's work in the Enterprise Architecture field - both internally in helping to manage our own IT / IS estate (utilising EA derived from DoDAF*) and externally with customers and partners, using a variety of EA Frameworks (from Zachman & ZFEA*, to the Open Group & TOGAF*). The topics I'll be discussing include the use of EA internally at Sun to help drive down cost & complexity, the work that Sun's Consultancy team has done externally with major customers, including successes, best practises & lessons learnt, and the resulting innovative use of lightweight EA techniques in the pr... |
