Three things from IPL missing in our business
2008-06-04 19:08:00 Nobody really believed that the IPL would turn into a money making machine. But in just 45 days, with the help of some of the smartest men on this side of the world, they succeeded in turning one simple idea into a massive-mega success. In less than two months IPL scripted the change of the Indian cricket story. In about six weeks, Lalit Modi executed almost the one idea to perfection and managed to make it one of the biggest money churners this year, and that too in a sport where people were already making so much money that it seemed impossible that you could make even more. Now that its all over, its time to think about what did IPL have that my business does not. And maybe there is something there which can help our businesses as well. So here are the top three things in IPL which I think are missing from our business:Unsung HeroesThe IPL wasn't about Sachin Tendulkar. I quite adore the man, but I think the best thing that happened to the IPL was that Tendulkar was hurt. If he ha...

Telling Stories around the Uber Camp Fire
2008-06-04 16:22:00 Earlier yesterday, I was reading Uber Affiliate and I just found out Paul has launch his new project. Once I found out he has released his new program, I went ahead and tried to contact him for a podcast. I got him late night while he was going through applications for his Uber Camp. I actually met Paul at Affiliate Summit West 2008. I met him personally and it was great to talk to him for a little bit during dinner with Aff Spy and others. I hope I get to meet him during ASE and get into a more detailed conversation. But onto the UberCamp podcast special! Paul has been seen on the net because of his big checks and big screen TVs and even hot girlfriend! Paul has great tips on his blog about affiliate marketing and has a lot of supporters from his blog alone. He is not just an affiliate marketer he is a fellow blogger. I remember back in the day he didn’t post that much and as he gained fans, he became addicted! But Now Paul has released a new program or membership forum call...

Project YEAH 2008 Media Launch
2008-05-11 18:21:00 10 May 2008Started the day off by attending the Media Launch of Project Youth Entrepreneur @ Aljunied and Hougang (YEAH). Held at Bishan Junction 8 open gallery at the 3rd floor, there were exhibits from various institutions including Singapore Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Innova Junior College, Anderson Junior College, Victoria Junior College, etc. Singer and entrepreneur Genie's music school had a booth too.Among the exhibits, what caught my attention was the booth by Innova JC. The students were selling custom-made pin badges. According to the teacher, the school had patent over the gadget which was used to make the badges. With one simple touch on the lever, the badge is done. I bought two badges, one of which I penned a quote and gave it to Bao Hui.Another booth worth a mention was the booth by Anderson JC students. They were selling T-shirts that they had designed, together with this small cute little plant [see picture below]....

Interview: Tracking How You Prosper, 202 Style
2008-04-30 05:48:00 I have a great person for you! If you are into the affiliate marketing industry or promote CPA offers, then you know how tracking is very crucial for you and how you are gathering your source of income. Tracking overall is a very important way to track your earnings and investments. With affiliate marketing it is even more important, there are so many things to capture and dissect. For example: keywords that convert, location of the conversion, which ad group is doing better than another, where is the traffic coming from, etc. There is just so many things to dissect. A lot of ppc affiliate marketers usually track a lot of their information from other networks and compile it all into one. Other hire freelancers to create a nice little program to capture data the way they want it. What about the noobs out there that want to get into affiliate marketing especially PPC? Enter Tracking202. Tracking202 is a system that actually tracks your conversions, traffic, type of browser, keyword co...
The Power of Networking
2008-04-28 13:00:00 We have all heard the classic saying: It?s not what you know, but who you know. It?s true in life, it?s true in business and it?s certainly true in real estate. The people you know and the connections that you make have a profound impact on all aspects of your life. This was something that I discovered fairly early in my business career. When I started in the financial services industry as a stockbroker I spent the majority of my time dialing for dollars. I spent countless hours calling people I didn?t know in the hope that they might be willing to have a conversation with me, let alone become a client. I was sure, or at least I hoped, that there had to be a better way. I asked successful veterans for tips on building a business and what they had done to achieve the degree of success that they had. Two answers were constantly thrown back at me: networking and referrals. I was told to join the Chamber of Commerce and other business groups in order to build relationships that would le...

Entrepreneurship as an outbound activity
2008-04-18 05:13:00 Hello all, today i wanted to share my views on entrepreneurship. Iam currently teaching entrepreneurship at a few business schools. While iam confident about teaching the conceptual aspects of entrepreneurship the same is not the case with the practical aspects. Entrepreneurship, according to me , is a very eccentric course. Its something like this, lets say you want to become a tiger trainer. You can train yourself to be so using a dummy tiger.Other options are to train yourself with a domesticated tiger in a zoo or a real tiger in the forest. Iam not sure what your chances would be with the latter approach!! Similar is the case with entrepreneurship. A "dummy tiger" kind of course in the classroom is no match to the majestic animal in the woods! So why this analogy? Does that mean any entrepreneurship course wouldnt work? Not so ! One needs the right environment to learn entrepreneurship. An environment that is hostile, where you have to earn your respect using your street smar...
Entrepreneurship stereotypes
2008-04-17 22:36:00 Or “Why all the mummies in the movies have problems walking?” I write an entrepreneurship blog for more than 3 years now. Writing the Small Business Entrepreneur blog also involves a lot of reading - I call it becoming more educate. Anyway the bottom line is that there are a lot of stereotypes when talking about entrepreneurship. And so do the mummies movies. I think in 99.99% of the movies I saw, all the mummies have a bad leg or some sort of walking disorder. I don’t know where this stereotype started from as I don’t know where all the stereotypes about entrepreneurship started. Take this one for example: most businesses will fail in the first years (first 5 as I know). Ok, so maybe yes, most of the businesses are closing down in 5 years, but does this mean they have failed? If you ask me, no. If I’m starting a company, it doesn’t mean I need to get it through the centuries. It should work as long as it serves the purposes for which it has been ...
Senior entrepreneurship
2008-04-16 22:28:00 If you read my How does it feels to be 20 years late on entrepreneurship? article earlier, now I’m taking things to the max by saying something about senior entrepreneurship. Here in Eastern Europe, I believe that 99.99% of the people don’t even imagine that they could start a business at the retirement age, mostly because people here are missing balance in their work life and don’t have any mental resources to start over again later in life. But things are a little different elsewhere. I’m not sure if it’s related to the recession, or the need to have supplemental income at the retirement age or just having enough time to take the entrepreneurship path, but you can find plenty of articles about aged entrepreneurs. Dane Carlson’s Business Opportunities Weblog is quite good in showcasing senior entrepreneurship stories. Like for example the story of Wayne Hauschild, the owner GameDaySigns : “I represent a small but growing segment of America...

Grab a Seperate Credit Card for Your Business
2008-04-09 17:43:00 PPC is almost like a rush to me. It keeps me on my toes and I am looking towards my stats at the end of the day. I don’t obsess with my stats but I do anticipate to it when it is time to view them. After realizing my spending and earnings from last month, I decided to go a head and to apply for a separate credit card just for PPC. I have maxed out my personal CC and I can’t run any Adwords campaign right now!! So I have to wait for my direct deposits and checks from several networks, arghh the pain of waiting. This brought a valuable lesson to me, dedicate a credit card to your business. I can honestly say PPC marketing is part of my business model because it is earning me money. Having your own credit card strictly for your business can easily help you grow and being responsible for that dedicated credit card. The fact that I can not market on Adwords is really throwing my whole income source off. I have to wait till the 15th to receive all my checks, deposit the checks...

Innovation & Entrepreneurship : Practice & Principles
2008-04-08 01:56:00 Innovation & Entrepreneurship : Practice & Principles# Author: Peter F. Drucker# Publisher: HarperTrade # Number Of Pages: 256 # Publication Date: 1985 # ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0434904074 # ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780434904075 This book presents innovation and entrepreneurship as a practice and a discipline. It does not talk of the psychology and the character traits of entrepreneurs; it talks of their actions and behavior. It uses cases, but primarily to exemplify a point, a rule, or a warning, rather than as success stories. The work thus differs, in both intention and execution, from many of the books and articles on innovation and entrepreneurship that are being published today. It shares with them the belief in the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship. Indeed, it considers the emergence of a truly entrepreneurial economy in the United States during the last ten to fifteen years the most significant and hopeful event to have occurred in recent economic and social history. But ...

Entrepreneurship changes reality
2008-03-30 21:44:00 I’ve been travelling lately to countries that are supposed to be the engine and driving forces of the Worldwide economy - USA and Germany. And although most of the entrepreneurship stories, knowledge and money come from well developed countries, I would say that entrepreneurship is really dimmed over there. While in US, I couldn’t see any big industrial developments (of course, I didn’t travel so much there after-all). And while in Germany, no new houses, no road constructions no nothing. That supports my older theory that is actually harder to be entrepreneurial in Germany than in Romania, simply because they already have most of the things in demand. But if you want to see real entrepreneurship development, come for example in Romania (which is by the way one of the lowest entrepreneurial countries and you will see amazing developments) Like for example, over the past 5 years, I have around 6 new houses and a block of flats on my street alone - usually done by c...

Entrepreneurship
2008-03-25 09:04:00 Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new organizations or revitalizing mature organizations, particularly new businesses generally in response to identified opportunities.Entrepreneurship- is often a difficult undertaking, as a vast majority of new businesses fail.Entrepreneurial activities are substantially different depending on the type of organization that is being started. Entrepreneurship ranges in scale from solo projects (even involving the entrepreneur only part-time) to major undertakings creating many job opportunities. Many "high-profile" entrepreneurial ventures seek venture capital or angel funding in order to raise capital to build the business. .

While I’m not prepared yet to write a full review about doing business in Philippines (maybe I’ll do that later), there are a couple of articles that got my attention in the last week or so. The first one, Starting them young on entrepreneurship by By Kenneth del Rosario (Philippine Daily Inquirer) is about the educational efforts that take place in Philippines to teach youngsters about entrepreneurship: “In this program, students are challenged to look into social problems that plague the country and develop solutions where they themselves can be part of.” I’m not sure if this is against one of my older articles - Born or tau...

How to Land the Perfect Job
2008-03-20 22:37:00 The title of this article may seem a bit strange to many of you, as I recently posted an article entitled ?10 Reasons You Should Not Get A Job.? However, while I am a huge supporter of entrepreneurial efforts, I realize there are a few objections. Not everyone has to be an entrepreneur nor should be. This does not mean that living an infinite and abundant life cannot happen. On the contrary many exciting careers await the savvy job seeker. After interviewing a friend of mine that does recruiting for a large corporation, I would like to share some insights on how to land the perfect job. I will divide job seekers into two major categories. Those entrepreneurial minded individuals looking to gain some experience and those individuals looking for a career within a specified field. We shall address entrepreneurs first. These individuals are looking to eventually own their own companies and typically have aspirations to make heaps of money very quickly. These individuals are typ...

Entrepreneurship and small businesses the small driving forces of the econo
2008-03-15 09:29:00 Writing an entrepreneurship blog really puts me in contact with a lot of interesting entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship and educational organizations, and sometimes I’m also pitched to write something for them. Either a guest post, or a review on an entrepreneurship events or something like that. From time to time, during these interactions the idea that small businesses and entrepreneurship are the engine of the economy. That it creates work places, value and money. Or maybe sometimes I see on TV that the government should help more business to start, so that the economy grows further. Well, in fact, I don’t really pay attention at this idea (of entrepreneurship as a factor in the economy) - I need to do some thinking to realise that the Turnover that we had last year means that we have created income per capita for the economy. Or the people we hired means we created workplaces. Because in most cases, entrepreneurs don’t think about themselves as being part of somet...
