Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Starts Tomorrow!
2008-03-19 03:48:00 Goofy catches a topiary wave while Mickey Mouse and gal pal Minnie chill at the "beach" for the 15th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival March 19-June 1 at Walt Disney World Resort. Last year's popular 60-day event has sprouted runners and expands to 75 days, with a first-ever March launch offering oceans of floral fantasy and gardening fun for spring break visitors to the Vacation Kingdom. As guests enter the park near Spaceship Earth, they'll spot a 14-foot Goofy topiary riding a 6-foot wave of flowers and plants. Sandcastles and palm trees surround Mickey and Minnie topiaries posed on a floral beach towel spread upon a sandy "beach." At World Showcase Plaza, Disney topiary specialists have crafted a volleyball beach scene starring Donald Duck and Daisy. Nearby, a topiary Pluto frolics while colorful Stitch from "Lilo and Stitch" keeps watch from a lifeguard stand. Rome 3, EPCOT 1
2008-03-08 21:49:00 Spring Break In Rome (Continued)The Church History class I took last semester focused largely on ancient Rome, and one thing my professor told us really stuck me. He said that the roads that were built for ancient Rome still exist, and that often times when there is construction on one of the more modern bridges, the detour usually re-routes traffic over the ancient bridges because the engineers know those bridges are sturdy.Things here are built to last. On our ride from the airport on our first day we are passing edifices that are thousands of years old ? in America something is old is it over a hundred. Buildings now are erected out of glass and steel with basic geometric shapes; the olden days featured an intricacy and grandeur not seen in ages. Recently I remarked to a friend about the sense of awe I experienced when visiting Hoover Dam; he remarked that he didn?t think that we had that kind of greatness in us anymore ? that if something like that needed to be commissioned ...

Chevy Volt could get a featured spot at Epcot Center
2007-11-26 00:26:00 Back in the 1990s, the GM EV1 was featured in one of the attractions at Epcot Center at Disney World in Florida. Once the EV1 was pulled off the roads the Epcot attraction was also replaced. As GM keeps the hype going for their next electric car, the range extended Volt, they may sponsor a new ride at the Disney theme park featuring the new car. Placing a Volt at Epcot could make it visible to a lot of people who don't go to auto shows or read car magazines or websites. The only problem with all this attention is that it could seriously backfire if GM runs into any technical difficulties with the lithium ion battery packs that cause a program delay. The silver sphere will revert to its oringinal shape as Epcot purists state that the 50 ton hand and wand structure which was put in place for the Disney millenium celebrations in 2000 has served its purpose was not part of Epcots true design and image. Epcot will be celebrating its 25th - Silver! - Annivesary this coming October so it is felt that the timing is right, especially as it co-incides with the refurbishment of the Spaceship Earth attraction contained within the sphere. As reported by the Orlando SentinelSee AlsoOrlando SentinelRead the Full article on the Orlando Sentinel Online
