Epic Games acquires majority stake in People Can Fly
2007-08-21 00:17:00 Epic Games has acquired a majority interest in Poland-based game developer People Can Fly (PCF), best known for the highly successful Painkiller PC game. PCF has most recently been collaborating with Epic on the PC version of Gears of War. Epic and PCF are also working on a brand new intellectual property which Epic will be previewing privately to publishers at Games Convention in Leipzig this week. The relationship between the two companies began last year when PFC was evaluating Unreal Engine 3 to use for a new multi-platform game project. Mark Rein from Epic Games: “PCF showed us their early prototypes within only a few weeks and we were totally blown away. The quality of their work was extremely high, and knew we had to find a way to work more closely with them in the future.” President of Epic Games, Michael Capps, even went as far as saying that the multiplayer levels PCF created for the PC version of Gears of War look as good or even better than the original.
How could Epic Games fail?

After all the interviews, previews, screenshots and videos it seems to be getting better all the time... but it's still possible for Epic Games to screw this up, like they did with Unreal Tournament 2003. What are some of the foreseeable pitfalls that Epic Games must avoid and which features truly need to be added? Let's explore that in this entry...Of course this entry will be limited to some of the sneakier, less obvious, pitfalls. So there will be no mentioning of silly stuff such as not releasing a demo prior to retail date, or unreasonable system requirements, because Epic Games simply will not let that happen, and has proven that with every game they've made prior to UT3.
