St. James -- Realtor Says Top Episcopal Church in Dallas
2008-04-01 06:59:00 SAINT JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, DALLAS -- A GOOD PLACE Most of us consider Dallas and the surrounding area as a significant part of the Texas Bible Belt. And when we're talking about the Bible Belt we primarily consider it composed of the churches of Baptist, Pentecostal, Bible and non-denominational. But even with that in mind, there are twenty-four Episcopal churches in the city of Dallas, and quite a number in the outlining areas like Plano and McKinney. In fact, one of the top three Episcopal churches in the United States when it comes to membership is in Dallas. It's Saint Michael and All Angels. We're all members of the Diocese of Dallas, led by The Right Reverend James M. Stanton. When Patty and I first moved to Dallas, we began our search for the Episcopal church and congregation that was closest in feel to old Trinity Episcopal in Galveston where I was a lifelong member. That was quite a chore, although it shouldn't have been...

Episcopal Church
2007-07-03 14:51:00 The Episcopal “Church” is suing to regain it’s property from the 11 churches in Virginia that broke away from the larger body in order to remain with orthodox Anglican beliefs. When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and...

On Moderation and the Episcopal Church
2007-06-20 15:55:00 (image: epiphany) I had a chance to sit down in private with a seasoned Episcopal priest this week. Admittedly, I turned the conversation ...

Episcopal Church USA Rejects Primates' Ultimatum on Gay Bishops and Wedding
2007-03-21 11:51:00 The House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church USA yesterday issued a pastoral letter expressing their continued desire to remain in the Anglican Communion, but declining to comply with the requests set forth in the Communiqu of February 19, 2007 from the Primates of the Anglican Communion meeting at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The money quote from that document is as follows: the Primates request, through the Presiding Bishop, that the House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church 1. make an unequivocal common covenant that the bishops will not authorise any Rite of Blessing for same-sex unions in their dioceses or through General Convention (cf TWR, 143, 144); and2. confirm that the passing of Resolution B033 of the 75th General Convention means that a candidate for episcopal orders living in a same-sex union shall not receive the necessary consent (cf TWR, 134);unless some new consensus on these matters emerges across the Communion (cf TWR, 134). If the US bishops did not comply by Sep...

Amherst's Episcopal Church Declares Wedding Moratorium
2007-03-12 19:34:00 Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst, MA has come up with a creative way to affirm GLBT rights without defying the denomination's ban on same-sex marriage rites. From today's Daily Hampshire Gazette (subscription required): Declaring a "holy fast," Grace Episcopal Church has decided to stop performing all wedding ceremonies because its bishops bar the blessing of same-sex unions."We are called to join the fast that our homosexual brothers and sisters in Christ have had to observe all their lives," said the church's rector, the Rev. Robert Hirschfeld, in his sermon Sunday. The worldwide Anglican Communion, of which the Episcopal Church is a part, has been splitting apart over this issue and the election of a gay bishop. Hirschfeld said that he knows of no other church that has taken the step of abstaining from all weddings. "Gays and lesbians are the church, as much, if not more, as I am a straight white man," he said in his sermon. "But this sacrament, and the grace it is meant ...

Episcopal Church Asks for Time in Dealing With Gay Policy
2007-02-22 00:25:01 NEW YORK ? The head of the Episcopal Church asked church members for patience Tuesday after fellow Anglican leaders demanded the U.S. denomination step back from its support of gays or risk losing its full membership in the world Anglican fellowship. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said in a statement that Anglican leaders are asking all sides in the fight over the Bible and sexuality to “forbear for a season” until the 77 million-member Anglican Communion can forge a compromise. “Each party in this conflict is asked to consider the good faith of the other,” Jefferts Schori said. “Each is asked to discipline itself for the sake of the greater whole.” At the end of a summit Monday in Tanzania, which Jefferts Schori attended, Anglican leaders demanded that the Episcopal Church unequivocally bar official prayers for gay couples and the consecration of more gay bishops by Sept. 30 or risk its status in the communion. Tension over sexuality ...
