Things Under Erasure
2008-09-09 21:23:00 Last Sunday I had the opportunity to discuss my work with my colleague and friend, Dr. Lisa Lipinski. The subject of our talk was my text-bisection practice and my current Song for Europe installation that is in The Athenaeum. Dr. Lipinski?s skillful preparation of her succinct questions and her collegial support allowed our talk to unfold effortlessly. Our conversation ranged from the difficulty in describing my work (neither ?drawing? nor ?painting? but uses media of the former and inhabits critical positions of the latter) to how it differs from the work of earlier conceptual artists like Joseph Kosuth and Lawrence Weiner. One question that proved fruitful was how I came to this technique of text-bisection. I recounted my discovery of Jacques Derrida?s expansion on Martin Heidegger?s ?unique device? for acknowledging a word?s ?inaccuracy? by crossing it out.(1) Derrida extends this idea of sous rature - placing the word ?under erasure? ? to all words. 2007-05-19 05:06:00 The English pop duo Erasure (Vince Clarke and Andy Bell), will be playing live in Puerto Rico at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan on July 13. The concert is part of their world wide Light At The End Of The World Tour supporting their new album “Light At The End Of The World” For those of you who are not familiar with Erasure, they hit the UK pop scene back in 1985 with “Who Needs Love (Like That)”. They followed this with further hits through the 80’s and 90’s with: “Sometimes”, “Victim of Love”, “The Circus”, “Ship of Fools”, “A Little Respect”, “Stop!” and “Take a Chance On Me” to name just a few. 2007-03-14 15:59:00 - NEW YORK (Billboard) - Cyndi Lauper, Erasure and Debbie Harry will anchor a summer tour of 15 North American cities designed to raise awareness of gay-rights issues. The True Colors trek, which begins June 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, will also include the Dresden Dolls, the Gossip and the Misshapes, along with host Margaret Cho. “This tour was created to celebrate our differences by raising awareness for liberty, fairness and dignity for everyone — not just some of us,” Lauper said in a statement. “Our fans can come out to celebrate a great cause while also hearing some great music.” Rufus Wainwright, the Indigo Girls and Rosie O’Donnell will make special appearances throughout the tour, which is sponsored by gay/lesbian TV network Logo. Erasure?s new album out May 22nd!
2007-02-08 09:08:02 Erasure have announced the details of their forthcoming album. ‘Light At The End of The World’ is due out in the UK on May 21, and in the US a day later. This is the twelfth studio album for the veteran electronic dance-pop duo. The 10-track album was recorded in Maine in a private home that was converted into a studio. Vince Clarke and Andy Bell worked with long-time producer Gareth Jones, who is also known for his work with Depeche Mode and Nick Cave. They wrote the album over a month’s time in the fall of last year. The album’s first single, ‘I Could Fall In Love With You’, is scheduled to be released on April 2.
