Currently the Mets and Perez are $1.775MM apart on their '08 salary figures. About a month ago, I suggested that Perez could be in line for $16MM a year. That still seems crazy to write. But consider: Boras may have had an off year but he's still the best agent in baseball. If anyone can push the salary bar, it's him. Perez will be only 27 when he signs. This is very uncommon. Jon Garland, C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Derek Lowe, and Ben Sheets will all be older. Afterward, Kerfeld told MLB.com that "it went good" and indicated he expected to hear back from the Phils shortly according to the Philadelphia Daily News. However, assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said yesterday that the team's interest is just "lukewarm" and that there is no timetable for making a decision.Perez was 8-11 with a 5.57 earned run average for the Kansas City Royals last season. For his big-league career, including stints with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, he's 66-70, 4.47. His best season came with the Dodgers in 2002 when he made the NL All-Star team and went 15-10 with a 3.00 ERA.
