The NFL Picks Column - Week 15
2007-12-15 07:57:00
Last Week?s Record: 11 - 4Click here for last week?s picks.Thursday Recap:I refuse to do an NFL picks column on a Wednesday night. Too many things can happen between then and Sunday. So I?ll never get a picks column written in time to pick the Thursday night game. I also bowl on Thursday nights, which makes it hard to even watch the games since the Bowling alley doesn?t get the NFL Network (thank you Comcast!). Lucky for us, I was snowed in Thursday night, and I DO have the NFL Network.A couple of quick thoughts on Houston?s big win:1) Mario Williams is already better player than Reggie Bush or Vince Young will ever become.2) When Sage Rosenfels is picking you apart, you?re not a playoff team.3) Andre Johnson might be the best WR in football. Until he gets a real quarterback, we?ll never know for sure.4) Darius Walker has a future in the NFL. Had he stayed in school another year, he would have been a second or third round running back.5) I?ve seen John Elway. I watched John Elway pl...
Eric Mangini is a turd

Imagine this: Ronnie Brown suffers a knee injury (I suppose that'll be easy to imagine).  However, we don't know what the injury is or even what knee it is to.  Two days later on a local radio station, Ronnie then says he isn't injured.  The next day, he gets placed on Injured Reserve.  Why?  We still don't know.  Brown then goes back on the same radio program a week later.  They ask him what his injury is and Ronnie tells them to "use their imagination."  They ask him which knww it is and he tells them they "have a 50/50 chance of guessing."  One of the hosts then says he thinks it's the right knee.  Ronnie responds by saying that "it could be, but if it isn't, then it's the other."   Luckily, we don't have to worry about this ever happening.  But that situation above was exactly what played out in New York and with Jonathan Vilma because Mangini doesn't allow his players to talk about injuries.  It was alm...
Condoning Cheating? - NFL Coaches Unfairly Treating Jets Coach Eric Mangini
2007-09-19 07:58:00
Profootballtalk.com and The New York Times report today that several NFL Coaches and executives are working to gang-up on New York Jets Head Coach Eric Mangini for blowing the whistle on New England Coach Bill Belichek for telling NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that the Pats vidoed defensive signals from opposing teams, a violation of NFL rules. Selena Roberts of the NY Times writes:Mangini didn?t just flip on Belichick, costing his former mentor a celebrated image that has been reflected in a shelf-full of Lombardi Trophies, as well as a $500,000 fine and a prime draft pick. He did more. He also humiliated the respected Patriots owner and league power player Robert K. Kraft. That sin has left Mangini toxic to some team executives. After all, would you trust him? Is there anyone ? a player, assistant, general manager, owner or mascot ? that he wouldn?t betray in a pinch? Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com reports:The reality, however, is that Mangini has likely learned his lesson...
Message Board Marauder
2007-09-18 16:12:00
Tuesday means it's time to peruse the sports message boards to see what kind of douchebaggery is sprouting up.ESPN.com - NFL Board: "Can any black players speak well? Watching Emmitt Smith and Keyshawn on ESPN is brutal. Can anyone except Tiki Barber speak well? That is why I like that guy - he is a refreshing image of a black NFL player that isnt seen nearly enough." - 33Tony33Dorsett33ESPN.com - College Football Board: "Why Does OJ Keep Getting Set Up? First the racist LAPD sets him up for the murder of his x-wife, and now he's being set up for stealing his own stuff? What gives?" - orngandbluESPN.com - College Football Board: "why is everyone downgrading michigan? just becuse michigan losees 2 games you guys start to jump them if this was a different school no one would even care but listen up im promise a win next week and then a big ten title at the end of the season. go blue" - judebhamGangGreen.com - NY Jets: "It starting to look like that EM was only a good coach because ...
NFL Uni Notes [J. Mark English]

The "C" on the uniforms look kinda cheesy. I mean is the NFL trying to mimic the NHL? Why not just stitch up an "A" on the uniforms for the assistant captains as well!Notice the plethora of patches being worn by teams this year marking some sort of anniversary year? The Redskins, the Packers, and the Eagles so far have them on. I'm sure there are other teams as well, but I haven't watched every game yet. (And I won't be, but I'm just making a point...)The Jets wore their away whites at home today. Was that to make them cooler in the summer heat? Man, Mangini and Belichick really despise each other. The Chargers new uniforms look sleek and yet old school at the same time. I just wish they'd put the numbers on the helmets like when they used to wear the baby blue jersey.Oh and are the green dots on the back of the QB helmets really necessary? The green dot designate the player on the field that can communicate through a wireless device to the sideline. But we all know it...
