Phillies at Cubs - 7:05pm CT -- Live Game Thread (WGN, ESPN)
2009-08-13 00:17:00 The game tonight is on WGN (and ESPN, but who cares), but if you tuned into WGN at 5:55pm tonight --- your very own (well, my very own) Cubbiejulie was just on WGN news promoting A League of Her Own and Chicago Now as a whole. Thankfully, she wasn't bumped, so I didn't have to rough anyone up. As for tonight's game, let's just hope for the best, shall we? Spellcheck is facing Pedro Martinez. Sure, Martinez is 37 (which is NOT OLD, thank you very much) and coming off the DL, this is his Phillies debut, and his first appearance in nearly a year. That said, this is still Pedro Martinez. Fortunately, Mr. Martinez has an even record against the Cubs at 3-3. ...

The video was posted yesterday without mention to ESPN or Andrews. Blogger Doug Sheckler posted the video with the title: “Hot naked blonde ...
How Does ESPN's Magic Baseball Ball Tracking Work?
2009-07-16 21:16:00 From Gizmodo: Did you watch the Home Run derby the other night? I didn't. But if I had, I would have wondered: How did they manage to show those cool balls' trails in real time? The mechanism involves a complicated math algorithm that tracks and predicts the ball's trajectory in

Our Version of ESPN Zone's Top Ten Chicago Sports Moments of the Last
2009-07-10 19:08:00 Today ESPN Zone Chicago is celebrating their ten year anniversary by releasing a list of the Top Ten Chicago Sports Moments of the Last 10 Years as voted on by the fans. These are the moments that you'll always remember exactly where you were standing as you witnessed an event that was surely to become apart of Chicago sports lore for eternity. But after looking at their list, a few things have become quite clear about the fans of Chicago:1. It's no secret we're a 'what have you done for me lately' kind of fan base and this list proves it. 2. They remember failures more vividly than they do successes. 3. The Cubs fans base sways any vote.4. This...
Video: Jordan Crawford on ESPN
2009-07-09 21:26:00 This whole LeBron got dunked on thing is crazy. All I want to say about it is LeBron's people are just afraid of the truth. I could easily go an some rant filled with cuss words and all, but this whole thing is just not worth it. This situation has been really blown up and I can tell it's the off-season because of it. It is bad for LeBron, though.Anyway, here's the video of Jordan Crawford on ESPN talking about it:
Michelle Beadle Rocks ESPN?s SportsNation
2009-07-06 22:15:00 The new ESPN show SportsNation debuted today at 4pm EDT on ESPN2. The show is co-hosted by the extremely cute Michelle Beadle and ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd. ESPN Suggests The Blackhawks Trade Campbell
2009-06-22 02:58:00 The list of sources suggesting the Chicago Blackhawks should trade Brian Campbell this offseason keeps growing. You can now add the guys over at ESPN Insider to the club. In pointing out that the penalty kill is the Blackhawks greatest weakness, the suggestion is to trade Brian Campbell to the New York Rangers for fellow defenseman Michal Rozsival. To read the article will require an ESPN Insider password which will set you back $39.99. At the risk of upsetting the giant east coast sports media behemoth, my suggestion is to save your money. They believe the deal makes sense for Chicago if only to save them $2.14 million in cap space the next three seasons. I don't believe the...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Kentucky Lake
2009-06-10 12:23:00 The Mississippi River is one of the great bass fisheries in this country, but this particular section (Fort Madison) I think is under a little bit of hard times from last year's flodding. This time of year, fish should be really starting to gang up in pads and eel grass edges, but from the sounds of it, not much of it has grown back from last summer. So if you can find some good stretches, they could be loaded, but also very crowded. A strong wood flipping bite could play as well. Either way, its nice to see the Elites visit the upper midwest for a change, should be a very exciting tournament, they will catch plenty of fish. Look for Swimming Jigs to be a big player here.I am making some fairly serious changes this week to try to make some big moves, Alton Jones had to go, he was just too safe. Here are a few guys that I think would be solid fantasy fishing picks that are not on my team. Chris Lane, Tommy Biffle, Iaconelli and Jami ...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Kentucky Lake
2009-06-03 03:01:00 Kentucky Lake is one of the great bass fisheries in this country. This time of year, fish should be really starting to stack up on ledges. Sounds like water levels have dropped, so flipping bushes probably won't play much, but you never know.By the way, you need to get it in by tomorrow 8am central, this tournament actually starts on a Wednesday and ends on Saturday to allow travel time to Iowa next week. The next 3 events Kentucky Lake, Mississippi River, & Lake Oneida are all vastly different fisheries, so trying to set your lineup to fit all 3 may be a bit of a challenge. Here are a few guys that I think would be solid fantasy fishing picks that are not on my team. Kelly Jor-dan, Kevin Wirth, Edwin Evers & Timmy Horton. The breakdown on my team is as follows:KVD - With a 3rd & a 1st last two June events on KY Lake, he is a lock.Matt Herren - For the money probably on my roster until the bitter end, should have a so...

ESPN is Bringing Its Own Video Player to YouTube
2009-05-21 16:04:00 ESPN will integrate its own video player on YouTube on July 15, as well as the offer pre-roll advertising on the video site. Double whammy really, because it will be the first company to do this both on YouTube. All other channel partners use YouTube’s customary player and Youtube has till now not been keen to use Pre-Roll ads on its videos. It was earlier touted to come to YouTube by April. There are a few other notable features of this development. This most important among them being the fact that ESPN is owned by Disney and Disney in turn is an investor in YouTube’s competitor Hulu.com. The Hulu move was from the perspective of providing TV series and movies on Hulu’s site. This can be gathered from the announcement that followed the investment - The agreement will enhance Hulu’s programming line-up through the expanded online distribution of Disney’s most popular current and library primetime series and library feature films. In particular, full-length e...

2009-05-21 00:55:00 Like drug abuse and DUI convictions, stupid facial hair is part of the long and storied history of the St. Louis Cardinals #$@*%$! So okay, here it is: we aren't hitting much right now, and we have to face Chris Carpenter and that surgically-engineered thing he has in place of his arm. The bad news? It's not good to face Chris Carpenter when he's feeling good. The good news? There's a 95% chance he'll do something else injurious to his arm tonight, and we'll be there to see it. It cuts both ways, people. We're now freakin' TIED with the #*$!#$&@#$@ Cards for second in the NL Central, and 3 games behind Vegetable Lasagna and The New Sausage Revue. And seriously, if you lived in Milwaukee and knew that Prince Fielder was coming up on 2 years of being deprived of meat, would you volunteer to dress up and run around as a giant sausage? I submit that you would not. But I digress. Ryan Dempster (3-2, 4.65) will lead the Cubs into battle against the Cardianls and the owner of sai...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Guntersville
2009-05-06 21:08:00 Guntersville is one of the all time bass factories that Bassmasters stops at. This time of year, there are a lot of different bites going on. A few fish are still moving up, so staging and sight fish can probably be a part of someone's bags, but most of the fish are wadding up in post spawn areas or looking to gorge on the shad spawn bite that should be in full swing. There are lot of local Alabama anglers and most of them are very good hooks, so take a loot at some of these guys to fill your roster out. By the way, you need to get it in by tomorrow 8am central. Feel free to peruse the Pundit Picks from ESPN.You probably will not need to change your line-ups much for this event and the next event on Kentucky Lake. Here are a few guys that I think would be solid fantasy fishing picks that are not on my team. Ike, Kelly Jordan, G-man, Roumbanis & Mark Davis. The breakdown on my team is as follows:KVD - He showed last week, he...
ESPN: No Oakland Raiders Bias - NFL Draft Notes
2009-04-27 16:41:00 More at Zennie62.com | Follow me on Twitter! My long-time friend Richard Lieberman is prone to hyberbole and god-love him, this is one of those moments. The San Francisco Chronicle blogger may have made some hay by charging ESPN with a "bias" against the Oakland Raiders, but where I am in New York, and where I was at Radio City Music Hall for the NFL Draft, the notion was quickly put to rest. I'm going to spend about as much time on this as ESPN did, but the bottom line is a lot of people didn't like the Raiders draft, almost from top-to-bottom. I was editing videos in the Interview Room when I overherd NFL Network's Pat Kirwan, and Clark Judge of CBS Sports doing a take for NFL Network, and both were almost laughably derisive of the Raiders decision to take Darrius Heywood-Bay, who's the third ranked receiver in the draft over Michael Crabtree who was picked in an almost regional slap-in-your-face move by the cross-bay San Francisco 49ers. The pr...

Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Smith Mountain Lake
2009-04-23 19:14:00 Happy Earth Day!Smith Mountain Lake may be one of the toughest to pick all year. Clear deep water lake, with lots of pressure and boat traffic on the weekends. All indications say that sight fishing and finesse will be the ticket, but its been a little cool lately, so maybe some angler can get on a wad of big females in a pre-spawn stage. The local talent pool is thing for this lake, few anglers from Virgina, John Crews is probably the closest to calling it his home lake. After Smith mountain, you should probably be prepared to settle into a little groove with your roster on the next two TVA lakes. Here are a few guys that I think would be solid picks that are not on my team. Ike, Kriet, John Murray & Mark Davis. The breakdown on my team is as follows:KVD - He will likely be on my team all year, he should be near dominate on these TVA lakes, can't give him up just because this may not be the best fit.Matt Herren - For the money probably on m...

2009-04-20 00:00:00 If it keeps raining like this even Noah would say "Screw it!". There just may be a window of oppurtunity here. Albeit a small one. Today's hour by hour forecast. If this game does get underway, we get to enjoy the master at work: Chicks dig me because I rarely wear underwear, and when I do, it's always something unusual. (Hat tip to TLFC for the pic) Lilly is coming off an outstanding outing, that saw him take a no hit bid 6 2/3 innings. To say he was on his game is an understatement. He will be opposed by former Cub, Todd Wellemeyer. Todd's trying something new. From Cubs.com: Wellemeyer has simplified his delivery in between starts and it has paid dividends. In his most recent start, he went seven innings against the Diamondbacks on Monday, allowing seven hits, and one earned run. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. In Wellemeyer's first start of the season, he gave up 12 hits and five runs in a loss to Pittsburgh That's a pretty mixed ba...

Easter Sunday Game Thread: Cubs @ Brewers 7:05CT/8:05ET ESPN, WGN Radio, Ga
2009-04-13 00:00:00 I'll be damned. The Easter Bunny is Canadian! And so is todays starting pitcher! See what I did there? Dempster's from Can- oh never mind. I love this picture, but check it out, Dempster's kid is wearing Crocs in public! Ryan Dempster looks to improve on his first outing today, while leading the Cubs to a win in this rubber game. Nothing will please me more than taking two of three from Brewers. You see, I live in Cheeseland, surrounded by Brewer fans, and Packer loving lunatics. They seriously use the winning of one stinking playoff game as some sort of rallying cry up here. This cannot continue. So please, for the sake of my sanity, WIN THIS FREAKING GAME. Dont forget This Week in Cubs! Julie and Matt continue the soon to be award winning show: This Week in Cubs! Let's remember that many more people than just our regulars are listening in. Last week I upset the flow with some inappropriateness, and I apologize to Matt a...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Wheeler
2009-04-02 20:45:00 First off, wow I had no idea Wheeler was this week until I got my Fantasy Fishing email reminder from ESPN to make my picks; usually I am much better then that, kind of caught me off guard. So lesson #1, go into your account and click the box that says you want a reminder, it works! Also, if you have not done so lately, click on the tab that say "Renegotiate Salaries", if you have Ike on your team, you will get $.5 of cap space back after last weeks debacle at Dardanelle. That is something you should do after every event!Lake Wheeler is a TVA impoundment, has good grass as well as all kinds of channel swings, shell beds and every other submerged structure an angler could ask for. Sounds like things are shifting towards post-spawn in this area now. That would setup great for your deep water structure guys, they can get in the right area and catch fish staging, and might get both coming & going. I am sure there will be a couple sight fisher...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Dardanelle
2009-03-26 13:37:00 Lake Dardanelle is once again much different then Amistad, but probably a little similar to the Red River classic site, so if you have guys on your roster from that event, maybe think about keeping them. Lake Dardanelle is kind of hybrid body of water that is kind of lake, kind of a river, so keep that in mind. For the most part, from what I read, its a fairly shallow fishery. Based on what I have read & seen of this fishery, probably a power fishing technique will win.It also seems that on river systems, home field advantage can be a little more important. Guys like Scott Rook, Greg Hackney & Kevin Short have done real well in past tourneys on different sections of the Arkansas River. I think it has to do with these small little quirky spots and trees and stuff like that, seems like you can bank on some of these spots for a few key fish in tournaments, that looms large in a tough bite, as reported right now. It also sounds like there coul...
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Amistad
2009-03-12 07:07:00 For starters, if you missed the link to this breakdown of the BASS salary cap, click here to read one by BP.Much like the first 2 FLW tournaments are completely different venues, its probably even a greater difference between the Red River and Lake Amistad. I have fished Amistad both for fun and as a Co-Angler in an Elite Series tournament. Amistad is a very deep clear canyon lake that is chocked full of flooded brush and a good amount of hydrilla grass. The one nice thing, is that BASS has been coming to Del Rio for the last 3 years near this time of the year. So you got a solid comparison to work from, but its always a little different every time. Plus you have a handful of new anglers from the Opens that can always make a splash. In my mind, here are the patterns that could play depending on weather. Swimbaits, Flipping or Cranking Bushes, deep structure with big worms or football jigs or if timing is right, bed fishing could loom large.&nb...

Yankee Nation to Descend On Oriole Park For Opening Day & ESPN Will Witness
2008-12-31 18:22:00 As most any season ticket holder to the Baltimore Orioles knows -- the Evil Empire will be coming to Charm City for Opening Day at Camden Yards on April 6th. There will be hardcore Oriole fans who will be there, but of course there will also be a throng of Yankee fans -- local and not -- coming to see their team embark on their manifest destiny to the World Series (or not).I just checked out Jay Trucker's blog on the Examiner website and apparently ESPN will be here chronicling the Yankees on the Opening Day telecast -- more specifically C.C. Sabathia's first start; thus, more or less, the Orioles will just be part of the supporting cast (or just maybe the extras). One could think that there will be incessant talk on how Tex was signed by the Yankees and how the Red Sox lost him, the Steinbrenners, will Burnett become Carl Pavano II and a litany of other topics all related to New York. How much mention of the Orioles will there be on their telecast? Little. The again, there might be...

TEIXEIRA DECISION SOON...From ESPN...
2008-12-23 20:17:00 It's between the Nationals and the Red Sox, according to ESPN. Read this..."At a time when Mark Teixeira's decision about where he wants to sign is seemingly imminent, the Baltimore Orioles' negotiations for the free-agent first baseman appear dormant. The Yankees, on the other hand, continue to review their options, preparing for the possibility -- however real it is -- that Teixeira might make them an offer that they couldn't refuse. The Boston Red Sox or the Washington Nationals continue to be the most likely destinations for Teixeira, executives involved in the process believe -- the Red Sox, with an offer that might be in the range of $170 million, and the Nationals perhaps with a proposal greater than that of Boston."That's it for now. It's 2:21pm EST...more to come almost as it happens...

2008-09-13 19:02:00 Lou Montanez - ESPN Zone; Sept. 9th, 2008On Tuesday, the ESPN Zone in Baltimore?s Inner Harbor hosted its last ?Orioles Q&A? with the newest Oriole, outfielder Lou Montanez. The afternoon event, which was sponsored by ESPN Zone, Baltimore Orioles public relations department and was emceed by esteemed Maryland sportscaster Tom Davis, gave fans a unique chance to ask Montanez, who in his short time in the majors has made quite an impression by batting over .300 and hitting a home run in his first ever major league at-bat.The crowd at the popular restaurant was somewhat smaller this time around, than in the summer when kids and families were able to venture into the big city; nevertheless, the 26-year old outfielder was able to open himself up and be candid. During his 20 minute Q&A, Montanez, not only talked about his time in Baltimore, but in the minors, and how the sport he loved as a youth became his dream profession. After the Q&A session, he signed autographs and posed ...
