2008-08-12 02:59:00 The Tampa Bay Rays placed rookie All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a right wrist fracture. The move was retroactive to Friday. The team recalled outfielder Justin Ruggiano from Triple-A Durham to take his place. Longoria was injured on Thursday, when he was hit by a pitch from Seattle closer J.J. ...

What's With Those Florida Teams? [Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria]
2008-06-10 11:18:00 So, even though Tampa has fallen back to second place behind Boston in the AL East, I'd still like to take a look at their offense and their staff to try to see why they've had such success and whether it will be sustainable over this year and the next few. The first guy I want to talk about is Carl Crawford. I have to say, I think he's been one of the most overrated fantasy players over the past few years. There is no denying that he will have a high average, score runs, and steal bases. Of course, historically, he has been unable to be an elite run producer because there's been nobody to drive him in. But I have always felt that his lack of power means he doesn't belong in the first or second round, where he has consistently been drafted. That being said, I believe his numbers so far are too low, and he is a great guy to target in your mid-season trades. His BABIP is under .300 (after a .375 mark last season!), which is way too low for a guy with his speed. He's walking mor...

Is Evan Longoria Ready for the Show
2008-06-02 19:22:00 Evan Longoria is the real deal , yet the Rays always seem to find a way to keep their prospects in the minor leagues. Time will tell but this guy looks ready and hit his 3rd homer of the spring today. He could be this years Ryan Braun. He has hit at every level he has been at since he was a boy yet The Rays are the Rays . Stash15 Zoom(s)
The Evan Longoria Extension: Taking the Trend to the Next Level
2008-04-22 11:23:00 Simply put, I wanted to go on the record and state that the Evan Longoria extension was absolutely brilliant. The terms are for six guaranteed years at $17.5 million, plus a one-year option for 2014 and a two-year option for 2015-16, which could raise the total value to nine-years and $44 million, securing the ...

Sunday Notes: Evan Longoria and the Big Hurt
2008-04-20 22:03:00 We spent a good amount of energy discussing the Rays’ choice to send Evan Longoria to AAA, in order to control his services for an extra year. The plan seemed straightforward enough, and I was convinced it was the right move.As you know by now, the Rays were thinking even further ahead. In what may ...

Evan Longoria agrees to a six year deal
2008-04-20 02:54:00 Evan Longoria and the Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a six-year, $17.5 million contract a deal .The could be worth up to $44.5 million over nine seasons. He gets $500,000 this year, $550,000 in 2009, $950,000 in 2010 and $2 million in 2011, a salary that would increase to $2.5 million if he is eligible for ...

Who Is Better: Evan Longoria Or Kevin Youkilis
2008-04-16 12:28:00 The Devil Rays relented and reversed their penurious demotion of top prospect Evan Longoria two weeks after deciding to manipulate his arbitration and free agency years. Hopefully, this move will erase the bad will generated by the demotion. With all the attendent hype surrounding Longoria, all his fantasy owners have to decide who to sit to play him or whether they need to keep him on the bench. A colleague of mine asked me whether he should bench Red Sox 1B/3B Kevin Youkilis for Longoria. What do you do in that situation? Can Longoria be reasonably be expected to outperform Youkilis in a 5x5 format? PECOTA predicts a 25/87/6/.266 with 83 runs scored for Longoria and 17/81/6/.272 with 84 runs scored for Youkilis. Amongst Longoira's comparables are Paul Konerko and Cal Ripken. Youkilis draws Sal Bando, Derrek Lee and Tim Salmon. "Close enough" seems to make the decision easy enough assuming you want to play Longoria. However, I am a wee bit more ...

Evan Longoria Arrives
2008-04-12 15:55:00 Top third base prospect Evan Longoria is up in the bigs, and probably to stay. So much for the Rays' cost-saving plan. Other third base prospects like Andy LaRoche, Chase Headley, and Neil Walker may spend time in the Majors...

Evan Longoria
2008-04-12 10:43:00 The Rays have rectified the penurious decision to send rookie 3B Evan Longoria to AAA following his excellent Spring training efforts. Just eleven days into the 2008 season, Longoria will have Super-Two status following the 2010 season and get to take the Rays to arbitration Hell for the sin of greed. The biggest loser will be those AL-Only fantasy teams that took Willy Aybar with the expectations he would get 6-8 weeks of full-time ABs. Now the best that can be hoped is Elliot Johnson continues to struggle, and Aybar returns in a super-utility role.In the mean time, scour the waiver wires in hopes that Longoria was dropped by impatient owners. If you can use FAAB to acquire him, then do not emulate the Rays and be stingy. You're not likely to get a better FAAB player this year.

Rays Call Up Evan Longoria
2008-04-12 08:19:00 Aybar’s headed to the DL and Rays have purchased the contract of Evan Longoria. Think once they bring him up, he’s here to stay, because there’s no reason to start the clock on him unless they’re going to play him. Unless, of course, he’s terrifically awful. Remember last year, guy by the name of Alex ...

The Futures Market: Evan Longoria
2006-08-29 01:54:03 In the span of three years, Evan Longoria went from being an unknown to one of baseball?s top prospects. Evan Longoria was not drafted out of high school, instead having to settle joining the baseball team at Rio Hondo community college. His strong junior college performance and a growth spurt that added two inches and 25 pounds to Longoria?s frame led to a transfer to Long Beach State for his sophomore season. Longoria?s first season in 1-A was relatively successful, but nothing to write home about. Benefiting from the increased scouting exposure due to teammate Troy Tulowitzki, Evan was subsequently invited to play for the Chatman A?s in the Cape Cop league during the summer of 2005. Heading into the 2005 Cape Cod short season, Longoria was considered a medium level prospect at best. This would all change by the end of the season. Longoria led the cape in a number of important categories, including 8 HR, 35 RBI & a .500 SLG percentage, on his way to being named league M...
