Overwhelming evidence and disillusion over Sathya Sai Baba
2008-09-06 13:12:00
While I was a follower of Sathya Sai Baba - for 18 years or more, I discredited the rumours about Sai Baba being a homosexual, even though I had heard that Tal Brook had written a book on this. I would not read it nor was I interested (it was unobtainable in India anyhow, ...

Cannabis and Brain Damage: EEG Evidence
2008-08-10 14:06:00
Updated August 13:The original post in its native form was far too long, so I have decided to break it up into seven different posts, in addition to this post. The separate sections are listed below. The original post, what is left of it, is here. For an examination of the evidence of whether or not cannabis causes actual structural damage to brain cells, axons or dendrites, see here. For an analysis of neuropsychological batteries of cannabis users to determine whether or not they suffer brain damage, see here. For an analysis of EEG testing of cannabis users to discover evidence of brain damage, see here. For an analysis of studies looking at cerebral blood flow in cannabis users, see here. For a summary of the findings of cannabis and brain damage, see here. For a summary comparing the effects of cannabis on the brain compared to other drugs, see here.Struve et al conducted a study of the EEG's of chronic heavy users and concluded that very long-term use was associated with changes in...
Cannabis and Brain Damage: Structural Evidence
2008-08-10 13:52:00
A major charge against cannabis is that it causes actual structural damage to the brain, that is, damage to the brain cells, axons and dendrites themselves. In this post, we will look at this charge. In other posts, we will look at other charges relating to cannabis and brain damage.A frequent charge is that marijuana causes "changes to the hippocampus", which may or may not be permanent.A new study released in early June 2008 suggested that use of more than 5 joints/day for more than 10 years (average of 20 years) caused shrinkage of the hippocampus and the amygdala in the brain. The hippocampus of the cannabis users was 12% smaller, and the amygdala was 7.1% smaller. The cannabis users also did poorer on a word recall test.Nadia Solowij of Australia was involved in this study, and her studies, for whatever reason, almost always find serious harm from cannabis, even at low doses (see below). However, three other studies found no hippocampal damage from cannabis. An MRI study from 2...
Hypnoanalysis for Anxiety - The clinical, empirical proof and evidence
2008-06-14 18:25:00
The fact of the matter is, there is no proof hypnoanalysis works for anxiety. That is to say that there are no rigorous scientific studies that have used acceptable research methods to prove that Hypnoanalysis is better than a placebo therapy or one of the other therapies available like CBT when it comes to treating anxiety disorders or panic attacks. Does that mean you should avoid hypnoanalysis like the plague? It is after all expensive and won't there be some strange man messing around in your head? Actually, I wouldn't say that at all. For while there is no evidence that Hypnoanalysis works, there is no evidence that it doesn't. The statistics have never been crunched, the experiments have never been done. It is difficult to do such research as there are many different approaches to hypnoanalysis. That said, a university psychology department that had the inclination and the funding could conduct a trial using one of the mainstream hypnoanalytical methods. It would also mak...

Evidence Found That Could Connect 50 Cent to House Burning
2008-06-02 19:36:00
As you all know, one of 50 Cent?s mansions, which his son and Sheniqua Tompkins lived in was burned down to the ground last week. Until now, no one has been quite sure who caused the fire. There have been made speculations, but no cigar. Well Livesteez.com has reported that evidence have been found that may connect 50 Cent to this situation. Here?s what Livesteez.com is reporting:?Police have found a 5-gallon gas container on the grounds of 50 Cent?s Long Island house, which burned to the ground last Friday. The intensity of the blaze made fire officials immediately suspicious that the fire was lit intentionally, and the discovery of the container seems to further confirm those suspicions. The house was occupied by the rapper?s ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, and their 10-year-old son Marquise. Mother, child, and four others were sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Tompkins has publicly accused 50 - real name Curtis Jackson - of having a role in the fire. ...

More Evidence of Poor Journalism At The Morning Call
2008-05-29 21:18:00
The caption of a photograph (pictured left) featured on MCall.com that was released by the Whitehall Township Police Department reads, "Surveillance camera image of suspect allegedly using a stolen credit card on May 15 at Best Buy on MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township." The reporting was done by Tracy Jordan of The Morning Call.Sorry TMC, but that picture is not from Best Buy, it's from The Sports Authority. The pitiful efforts continued in the report with the misspelling of Whitehall, which was spelled "Whitewall."I am by no means a master of grammar or spelling, but I'm not a dominating news source either. This is just another example of poor journalism from the crew at The Morning Call. Don't be surprised if the errors are corrected without being noted.UPDATE: At 11:25 PM, the report is still erroneous. I doubt it will be changed.

Evidence of Life after Death
2008-05-27 07:34:00
Press Release...Los Angeles, CA, May 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Author Jan Vandersande, Ph.D., is one of a growing number of scientists who has witnessed hard evidence of life after death. In his book, Life after Death: Some of the Best Evidence, readers are taken into the fascinating world of séances and sittings where Vandersande, his wife, and close friends experienced other-worldly phenomena first-hand with genuine trance mediums and channelers. “What happens after we die?” is a question that human beings have asked since time immemorial, and especially during the past two centuries, in-depth investigations have taken place throughout the world. For Jan Vandersande, interest in religion, philosophy, and questions about life and death began in his freshman year at Swarthmore; and even though he occasionally read a book on psychic phenomena, the time was not truly ripe for his paranormal education to begin. Continuing his formal education at Cornell University, he graduat...

Rumble: Internet is older than we think - the evidence

I came across this post on Shoutwire, a social bookmarking site. The post seems to be published 733,130 days ago. According to my calculations, this must have been around year 0, the year Christ was born...This must be the proof the Internet is older than we think. So where does Al Gore stand with his claim to have invented Internet? Or would Al be as old as Christ? Maybe Al is nobody else but JC, "the man"? Cool! Would that make "global warming", a "divine warning", like one of the prophecy thingies those dudes make? Who needs scientific evidence, hey?Ah.. the revelations, the signs, the unbearable lightness of insights...Ok, dear listeners, that concludes our programme of "The Nutcase" for today.

New DNA evidence overturns population migration theory in Island Southeast
2008-05-24 01:23:00
The researchers show that population dispersals came earlier, from within the region, and probably resulted from flooding. The conventional theory, or the ?out of Taiwan? model, suggests that the current day populations of Island Southeast Asia (ISEA) originate in a Neolithic expansion from Taiwan, driven by rice agriculturalists about 4,000 years ago. This theory was contested 10 years ago by Oxford University scientist, Dr Stephen Oppenheimer, in his book Eden in the East: The Drowned Continent of Southeast Asia, when he suggested the migrations came from within ISEA and resulted from flooding in the region. This latest study, led by Leeds University and published in this month?s Molecular Biology and Evolution, shows that a substantial fraction of the mitochondrial DNA lines (inherited by female descendants) have been evolving within ISEA for a much longer period, some since modern humans arrived about 50,000 years ago. The DNA lineages show population dispersals at the same time a...
Major Setback for Prosecutors in Chessani Trial; Judge Finds Evidence of Un
2008-05-21 23:53:00
This entry is part 15 of 15 in the series Pendleton 8This is a HUGE, HUGE victory in the Haditha case…and possibly a huge victory for SGT Larry Hutchins as well, as the door is finally open to show undue command influence in the Pendleton 8 case.  Today is a great day for Chessani, his attorneys, and for all of us whose mission is to end these charades of “justice.”  The case is far from over, but it’s one giant leap toward righting this incredible wrong.  My prayers are with the attorneys, Lt Col Chessani, and SGT Hutchins as we keep fighting for the end of this madness. ANN ARBOR, MI – Prosecutors yesterday hit a major speed bump in their rush to convict Marine LtCol Jeffrey Chessani when the Military Judge ruled that he found evidence of unlawful command influence.  Courts consider unlawful command influence the “mortal enemy of military justice.” Although the case is far from over, yesterday’s ruling now forces prosecutors to prove beyond a r...

Photographic evidence shows iPhone is Flickr’s top cameraphone
2008-05-02 20:22:00
We’ve mentioned a bunch of surveys in the past that have shown that iPhone users lurv surfing the web and using the media functions of their handsets, but there’s another feature that appears to fly under the radar, and that’s the iPhone’s camera. I just had a discussion about this with a friend last night, who commented—completely subjectively—that the iPhone took the best pictures. There are certainly phones out there with better cameras, but the iPhone makes it pretty easy—and, at times, fun, even—to take your pictures and upload them to an Internet sharing site like Flickr. Which is why it’s not exactly a shocker that the iPhone has become the most popular cameraphone on the photo site, topping the former champ, the Nokia N95. As Flickr itself points out, the data is hardly foolproof, since it depends on the camera itself reporting the information—Flickr says they usually get some data about two-thirds of the time. St...
First evidence mother?s diet influences infant sex
2008-04-30 22:06:00
New research by the Universities of Exeter and Oxford provides the first evidence that a child?s sex is associated with the mother?s diet. Published (23 April 2008), in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, the study shows a clear link between higher energy intake around the time of conception and the birth of sons. The findings may help explain the falling birth-rate of boys in industrialised countries, including the UK and US. The study focused on 740 first-time pregnant mothers in the UK, who did not know the sex of their fetus. Microsoft COFEE (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor) for law enfor
2008-04-30 16:02:00
Microsoft have always aimed to help computer users do tasks better with their software, while Windows XP and Vista have been loved and hated by some, I am sure investigators and law enforcement will love the new plug-in device called “Microsoft COFEE”. It does not contain caffeine, but it does contain 150 commands that will help investigators work faster when gathering digital evidence. The quicker they can extract forensic data from computers, the faster crimes can be solved and maybe it could save more lives. We have pointed out it’s not Coffee, but what COFEE really stands for is “Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor”. This plug-in device (basically a small USB hard drive) can analyze data stored on a computer, analyze Internet activity and decrypt passwords. Last June the Microsoft COFEE device was distributed to a handful of law-enforcement agencies, but today we hear that over 15 countries and 2,000 officers are using this gadget. While we do not know how much...
Another bent thing and more damning evidence
2008-04-27 17:54:00
If the evidence we have published so far may have presented “an ostensibly compelling case”, to use Mr Jim Fitzpatrick’s expression from a recent letter, the evidence we will be publishing from now on should provide the Minister for Transport with extra certainty. As, in the same letter, he claimed that the information we presented did not constitute the whole picture – a claim with which, for probably different reasons, we agree - we have decided to show you more of that ‘picture’. In previous posts we have already argued that the RFI assessment, that the inner lids of the duff and offal chutes on the Gaul had been left open by the crew prior to the loss of the vessel, was unsound. The condition of the closing devices of the duff chute indicates that its inner cover was, in fact, closed when the tragedy struck. We can now reveal that the split covers of the offal chute were also closed. The images below, captured from the 2002 underwater survey film footage, illustrate t...
More Evidence of the Harm of the Ageing Dads to Offspring

Eur J Epidemiol. 2008 Apr 25 [Epub ahead of print]Paternal age and mortality in children.Zhu JL, Vestergaard M, Madsen KM, Olsen J.The Danish Epidemiology Science Centre, University of Aarhus, Vennelyst Boulevard 6, 8000, Aarhus C, Denmark, zjl@soci.au.dk.Background Since paternal age correlates with some diseases that have a high case-fatality, a paternal age effect on offspring's survival is expected but unsettled. We examined the association between paternal age and mortality in children in a large population-based cohort taking maternal age and socioeconomic factors into account. Methods From the Danish Fertility Database (1980-1996), we identified 102,879 couples and their firstborn singleton children. Information on childhood death (N = 831) was obtained by linking the cohort to the nationwide register on cause of death (1980-1998). Results We observed a U-shaped association between paternal age and the overall mortality rate in children up to 18 years of age. Adjustment for ...

Al-Qaida's Finances: Evidence of Organizational Decline?

The latest issue of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point's excellent online journal, CTC Sentinel , was released today, inlcuding an article in which I present a snapshot of al Qaeda's continuing ability to raise funds through traditional methods, even as the al Qaeda core itself is reportedly short on cash. More sexual abuse evidence emerges against Sathya Sai Baba
2008-04-17 15:30:00
Muz Murray is a world renowned mystic and mantra yoga master of 40 years’ experience. Although endowed with the saffron robe and spiritual name of “Ramana Baba” in India, he sees himself neither as a ‘Swami’ nor a ‘New Age’ teacher, inclining rather to the notion of a ‘No Age’ seeking the teachings suitable for any age of the world. Muz Murray signed the Public Sai Petition, stating that he had been warned by Swami Muktananda of Ganeshpuri over thirty years ago never to get into a private darshan with Sai Baba, since he had just returned from Puttaparthi adjudicating in a court case regarding Sai Baba’s molestation of the son of two of Muktananda’s disciples. Also an Arab friend of Muz Murray was penetrated by Sai Baba many years later, he states. This kind of information has been flowing in - mostly since 1999 when the Internet made it possible for victims, otherwise isolated, to confer and stand forth with their testimonies. Muz Murray further criticises Sath...

Roadmunkey is Sean Parker-Perry - the evidence
2008-04-13 21:00:00
Tonight, we present the evidence we have accumulated that the Longdendale Labour Councillor Sean Parker-Perry is more actively involved in the fight for the Longdendale Bypass than the occasional letter to the press or election leaflet would suggest.Exactly 12 months ago today, a new weblog appeared called 'Support the Hollingworth Bypass'. Over the next 61 days, a series of posts appeared which attempted to lampoon and contradict posts appearing on this weblog, all the while displaying a cavalier sense of design and poor grasp of grammar.Posts to the blog were signed by the contributor 'Roadmunkey', who left a comment on our very first blog post (scroll down to view). The link to his profile clicked through (and still does) to display info about him. Our first warning as to the existence of the blog came from a comment left on one of our posts by someone anonymous who wanted to bring attention to it (they plugged it again later on that month on this post).
