McBride's 2010 Decision: Exploring a few possibilities
2009-09-15 08:53:00
Wondering how the recent moves of Chris Rolfe and Bakary Soumare to Europe will impact Brian McBride's offseason decision? Well, I asked the 37-year-old McBride - who is in the last year of his contract with the Fire - just that question after the Fire's practice last Thursday. Here is what the Arlington Heights native had to say... "I don't know. I think the main thing for me right now is to focus on these last six games and then the playoffs," he said. "I think that the organization wants to make all of those decisions later on so I'm not going to focus on them right now. I'm just focused on doing whatever I can to help the...

Exploring Phuket Town
2008-08-05 15:58:00
I have always liked Phuket Town. Big enough to be interesting, small enough to be easily explored, busy but without crazy traffic (most of the traffic bypasses the town), lots of interesting areas, hills and views, parks, temples, local people who seem rather detached from the tourism that grips the main beaches. Phuket Town is where you can find local life a plenty, local festivals and a different nightlife scene to the tourist zones.I realised today there is a lot of information relating to Phuket Town on this blog, so this post is a way to tie it all together. I still want to blog more about the town - the big fresh market for example and the Chinese shrines, and one day I must "blog" a ride on the local buses that run from town all over the island. There are also loads of little specialist shops that you just can't find anywhere else. As I say, I like Phuket Town, always something new to find. Old Phuket TownA few square blocks in the center is where to find the best of th...

Exploring Catholicism: Part 2
2008-05-22 19:22:00
[also see Part 1]I have read some catholic apologetics on this stuff and they always show new scriptures, but I would like to understand how Romans 10 I think it is where it says ? If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.? Or the verse John wrote how he ?wrote all these things that you might know you have eternal life.? Or other verses like it fit into the Catholic idea of salvation. Also any others you can think of, those were the ones off the top of my head.First, we have to keep in mind that we are discussing "Once Saved, Always Saved," not sola fide ("faith alone" saves). Now, you cited Rom 10:9 and 1 Jn 5:13. "Fluffy" added Rom 8:1 and Eph 2:8-9 in her comment on Part 1. Time does not permit for me to respond to every passage that Protestants use to support OSAS, but I can respond to these. I have links to articles that should adequately address the rest.First, chapter 8 of Paul's letter to the Roma...
Exploring Catholicism: Part 1
2008-05-20 19:38:00
I have recently began a conversation, via email, with someone who is considering a return to the faith of his youth, after being away from Catholicism since high school. He has allowed me to post our conversation on my blog, with the hope that others may be able to benefit from it as well. Here is our first exchange.Pax Christi,phatcatholic- - - - - - - - - -What is the plan of salvation according to the Catholic church? again I get mixed up what I have heard from the Catholic church and from anti-Catholics, Is there assurance of salvation? I have heard that there is not, yet I was at a Catholic funeral recently and they were very strongly pronouncing that the deceiced was with God. If there is what is it based on?Well, Catholics believe that salvation is a process of sanctification that culminates in eternal life with God after death. We are not ultimately "saved" until we die in union with Christ. This means that there is no "assurance of salvation" or "once-saved-always-saved" un...

Exploring the Beautiful English Countryside
2008-04-23 16:11:00
If you're into beautiful countrysides with splendid views of the coast and the hilly areas, pay a visit to the county of Devon, west of England. Home to two of England's well-known national parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor, Devon is possibly one of the country's favourite holiday destination in the summer. The county town of Devon is Exeter, located on the east side of the county. Exeter provides sufficient facility for tourists and has its own attraction as a city of cathedrals and known for its universities. For those of you who are more keen on warmer weather and plenty of sun, then it would be best for you to head for South Devon, where you can get private holiday cottages in Devon for a reasonable price. Apart from making your way to the coastal areas to sample breathtaking views of the sea, you can also hike up the rolling hills of its countryside in towns such as Plymouth. If you're an outdoor person, look no further than the villages in Dartmoor National Park for an interesti...
Exploring the Great Year
2008-04-23 05:45:00
I have posted a new video here on TDG, the documentary "The Great Year", narrated by James Earl Jones: The Great Year is a compelling documentary that explores the possibility that the fall of ancient civilizations around the globe and the rise of modern civilization might be related to our Sun's motion around a companion star. The film examines evidence that ancient civilizations may have known of this celestial cycle and that our Sun may indeed display the characteristics of binary motion. This documentary (official website here) was produced by the Binary Research Institute, and has a companion book written by our friend Walter Cruttenden, Lost Star of Myth and Time (Amazon US and UK). For those interested in a separate overview, Walter also wrote an article about these topics for Issue 2 of our free PDF magazine Sub Rosa. If you would prefer to watch the documentary in a more comfortable manner, you can pick up the DVD from Amazon US.
