Padres make Selig extension unanimous (AP)
2012-01-23 22:57:00 Given some time to reconsider, the San Diego Padres have voted in favor of baseball Commissioner Bud Selig’s two-year extension. Selig’s latest agreement was finalized in a 30-0 vote, the commissioner’s office said Monday. Because it was not on the agenda when owners met Jan. 12 in Arizona, unanimous consent was needed then for approval.

A Brand Name Could Be A Domain Extension Too. End Of Cybersquatting?
2012-01-12 07:32:00 ICANN has just opened its pearly gates for companies to register their brand names as domain extensions. The new names will come online in 2013, but application procedure has already started. It was a common perception that .COM was the most desired extension. However, with ICANN proposing new extension options, companies soon could even customize this end of the website. ICANN, the internet governing body, approved significant expansions to Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) to allow companies, organizations and even cities to turn their own brands into domain name extensions. Though brand names like TATA, Reliance, Birla may surely appeal for such exclusivity, we expect to see heavy game-play or bidding in the generic product range like .music, .shop, .food etc. But the with the fight now moving to a more generic aft field, there could be plenty to go around. A while ago, India had opposed the idea of a generic .XXX extension, lets see, how it responds to this. The 90 Day registration pro...

Extension Candidate: Howie Kendrick
2012-01-07 06:48:00 Lack of batting titles aside, Howie Kendrick has developed into a solid homegrown star for the Halos. The 28-year-old is coming off the finest of his six Major League seasons (a career-high 18 homers and a .285/.338/.464 slash line) and with free agency just a season away, the Angels are looking to lock Kendrick up to a multiyear extension. The Angels have certainly not hesitated to spend money this winter, so let's examine how much it might cost them to sign Kendrick for the long term. Kendrick turns 29 on July 12 and is entering his last year of arbitration eligibility, where MLBTR projects he will earn around $5.2MM for his 2012 contract. Rickie Weeks is a decent comparable; he was about to enter his age-28 season and his final round of arbitration last spring when the Brewers signed him to a four-year, $38.5MM extension that also included an $11.5MM vesting option for 2015 based on plate appearances. A similar vesting option might be preferred by the Angels, given Kendri...

Dodgers Yet To Talk Extension With Kershaw, Ethier
2012-01-06 00:50:00 The Dodgers locked up MVP candidate Matt Kemp to an eight-year, $160MM contract earlier this offseason, but they aren't close to signing any more of their core players. Dylan Hernandez of The Los Angeles Times reports (on Twitter) that the team has yet to discuss long-term contract extensions with Andre Ethier and Clayton Kershaw. Ethier, 29, is projected to earn $10.7MM in 2012, his final trip through arbitration before becoming a free agent after next season. The two-time All-Star slumped in the power department in 2011, hitting just 11 homers while battling knee and elbow problems. He's a .291/.364/.479 career hitter, though he has struggled against left-handers (.242/.302/.359) and the advanced metrics don't love his defense. The 23-year-old Kershaw can't become a free agent until after 2015, but signing him might be the more pressing issue for the Dodgers. Our model projects him to earn $8.4MM in 2012 thanks to his Cy Young Award, even though it will be just his first ...

Free Remote Support Extension for Chrome
2011-12-29 09:00:00 A while back I blogged about a free remote support program called ShowMyPC that allows you to support a user remotely by having you both download and run their program that opened a VNC session so you can control the other user's desktop. It was kind of clunky, just like regular VNC, but it worked well enough. I supported many remote users with ShowMyPC.Being able to remotely control a user's computer makes life way easier for an IT person. With remote support tools, you no longer have to try to explain to a user where the Start button is located. You can just remote in, and fix their issue without hastle, and without having to dumb anything down so they can understand you easier.I found a new extension for Chrome that works a lot like ShowMyPC, except it's built into your Chrome browser, and works cross platform. The only requirement is that both computers need to have Chrome. The extension is called Chrome Remote Desktop BETA. From the Chrome store:Chrome Remote Desktop BETA is...

2011-09-07 00:27:00 Last Thursday before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series headed off to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Atlanta 500, Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports announced that they have signed a 5-year contract extension with Dale Earnhardt Jr. The contract will now keep Dale Jr. in the #88 Chevrolet thru the 2017 Cup Series season. ?We?re excited to have everything formalized and announced,? said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. ?Junior and I had a handshake agreement months ago, and we let other people work out the finer points from there. Dwight Howard says he's not signing an extension
2011-06-03 05:21:00 Per the Orlando Sentinel: Dwight Howard on Thursday shot down an Orlando TV station's report that he will sign a two-year contract extension with the Magi before the current collective bargaining agreement expires on July 1."There's no truth to that," Howard told reporters in Birmingham, Ala., where he spent part of the day working with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild homes damaged by late April's deadly tornados."The biggest thing right now is everybody understands I have one more year left. I'm keeping my options open, but there's no other place I'd rather be than Orlando. I want them to understand that. "But, at the same time, I do want to win, make sure everything is in line -- our...

Google +1 Embeddable Code Revealed; +Like Extension Released
2011-04-01 06:11:00 Google has just released the +1 button that allows you to recommend web pages to your social circle. This button is now in an experimental phase and is only available beside search results on Google. David Byttow, a Google engineer working on the +1 button, had clearly mentioned in a blogpost that although the +1 button is being released only on the search results pages, the company would bring this button for webmasters who can use them on their website along with the other sharing options once it is released in the future. The excerpt from the blobpost reads: But the +1 button isn’t just for search results. We’re working on a +1 button that you can put on your pages too, making it easy for people to recommend your content on Google search without leaving your site. If you want to be notified when the +1 button is available for your website, you can sign up for email updates at our +1 webmaster site. But, someone has already cracked the code. Possible Extension of GAO's Protest Authority in the Works
2011-03-10 16:42:00 By: Edward T. DeLisle As part of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 (the 2008 Act), Congress provided the General Accounting Office (GAO) with the authority to hear protests involving certain task and delivery order contracts emanating from both defense and civilian agencies. At the time, this authority was limited to a period of three years, meaning that it was set to expire later this year. A few months ago, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011 (the 2011 Act). As part of that Act, Congress partially extended the GAO’s authority. It permitted the GAO to continue hearing task and delivery order protests for contracts in excess of $10 million, but only for those contracts issued by Department of Defense agencies. For a reason not readily apparent, Congress failed to extend the GAO’s authority over civilian agencies. A bill has emerged in the Senate to address this omission. As reported by Law360, Senate Bill 498, entitle...

Lovie's Extension Does Not Cool Hot Seat
2011-02-28 18:50:00 Some fans have written their protest songs about the contract extension given to Lovie Smith by Jerry Angelo and the Chicago Bears. Some believe we have entered into a deal with the world's most boring devil - a devil that has no concept of game management or the correct use of challenge flags. Some believe the surprising 2010 campaign, capped off with a trip to the NFC title game, had nothing to do with the head coach from Big Sandy, Texas. Here's the truth. Most sports fans are impetuous, thoughtless morons. Just listen to a local call-in radio show for three or four hours and you'll find yourself asking questions like, "Did that guy really wait on hold for an hour...
Seabrook close to five-year extension with Hawks
2011-02-26 17:20:00 Looks like Brent Seabrook's extension is close. TSN is reporting the deal could be up to five years and just under $30 million. Seabrook is one of the "core" players Stan Bowman has talked about keeping intact. He also is one of the few physical players the Hawks have on defense. Cap issues could come back to bite the team again when it comes to depth, but keeping the core together is a good plan....

Alexei Ramirez gets a contract extension; this is a good thing
2011-02-01 08:35:00 Alexei Ramirez went up and became the best shortstop in the AL in 2010, but he's been one of the best values in baseball for the last three seasons thanks to the 4-year, $4.4 million contract he signed coming out of Cuba. At the time, Alexei dug the guaranteed years and money--and probably was really down with the getting the hell out of Cuba thing--and the White Sox dug getting a player who could at the very least defend multiple positions and provide speed (it's like having two reserve players!) for the cost of a single reserve player. That was how things started out, but since Alexei has begun his swift climb into defensive excellence, the clock has been ticking toward the day he would get paid. Not paid in the sense that he's pretty much set for life if he had the wherewithal to save and invest properly from Day 1, because Good God, that happened years ago. But paid in the sense that he's become one of the keystones of the franchise, and will soon demand compensation in ...
This A "No-Brain'r": Lovie Gets The Extension, Jerry Packs..
2011-01-04 23:56:00 With the regular completed, and an appearance in the post-season (with a chance to make-it to the "big-dance") It's a far gone conclusion that Lovie will be staying in Chicago. On the other hand, I still "thoroughly" believe that Jerry Angelo has over-stayed his welcome and needs-to-go.During Monday Night's show, we discussed this very topic, and came to this conclusion; Lovie was Jerry's 3rd choice when he hired him back in 2004 (behind Nick Saban and Russ Grimm). Jerry had allegedly allowed- good players to get away from former coach Dick Jauron which led to his demise. It appeared that Jerry was up to his "old-tricks" by doing the same thing to Lovie. However I firmly believe that this time around, Ted...

Tigers, Peralta "Expected" To Agree On Extension
2010-10-27 00:47:00 The Tigers have already locked up one infielder (Brandon Inge) before the start of the free agency period, and now they may be on the verge of re-signing another. Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Detroit is "expected" to spend $0.25MM to buy out Jhonny Peralta's $7MM option for 2011 and instead work out a two-year contract with the shortstop. Morosi predicts Peralta's new deal will be worth "a little less" than the $11.5MM that Inge will earn over the two guaranteed years of his contract. Peralta had a .703 OPS in 2010, including a .253/.314/.396 line in 242 plate appearances as a Tiger. He provides solid power from the shortstop position, which is a big plus on a Detroit team that didn't generate much pop beyond Miguel Cabrera and the possibly-departing Magglio Ordonez. Without Peralta, the Tigers would be forced to explore the very thin shortstop market for a replacement that would've very likely been a downgrade. Morosi also mentions that Peralta's pending retur...

Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Slams GA 400 Toll Extension, Calls it "
2010-09-28 00:23:00 Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Slams GA 400 Toll Extension, Calls it "Breach of Public Trust" Contact: Daniel N. Adams - (404) 353-6004 daniel@votemonds.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE With recent news that the State Road and Tollway Authority voted to extend the toll collection for GA-400 until 2020, John Monds, the Libertarian Party of Georgia's nominee for Governor, expressed his outrage at the action. He thinks that the extension is another example of the continuous breaches of trust between the state government and the people of Georgia. Governor Sonny Perdue, who leads that SRTA, said that the extension of the tolls for use of GA-400 will pay for future projects to accommodate the growth of the region that the toll road serves. This shows the people of Georgia that the state government is willing to break promises made to continue receiving funds; funds that will be diverted for other uses, rather than sticking to the promises made at the onset of the project....

"My priority is definitely with the Bulls right now. "The Olympics is something I'm definitely looking forward to, and it's really tough because I know the French team is playing in [Madison Square] Garden against Team USA [this Sunday in New York] and that's kind of something that I want to do. But I understand that [playing for the French national team] wouldn't be the right thing to do right now because I still came off...
Congress Approves Extension Of Homebuyer Tax Credit
2010-07-01 03:56:00 Since I have 2 deals that were counting on the homebuyer tax credit I have been monitoring this story pretty closely the last couple of days. Like many deals, the contracts were signed before the April 30 deadline and all we had to do was close by today. However, with short sales always taking too long and lenders backed up many of these deals (the National Association of Realtors estimated 180,000 but they have a vested interest in making that number as large as possible) just couldn't close in time. So congress produced legislation to extend the closing deadline (you still have to have been under contract by April 30) until September 30. This legislation easily passed in the...
