First things first today I just want to say a big ‘thank-you’ to all the Aussie Arsenal supporters who left their comments on yesterday’s post - they were most appreciated. Cheers also to the other supporters around the world who left their thoughts as well. It’s amazing to think this blog has readers from Mexico, France, Switzerland and South Africa (to name but a few) as well as virtually every major city - and some not so major - in Australia. The idea to develop some sort of a pub community in Australia via the blog seems to be something that a lot of you want to get involved in and as such I will pursue the potential with the folks at Arsenal Australia. I’ll let you know how things progress. Moving on now and virtually all of the Arsenal news around the place at the moment relates to Euro 2008. The tournament kicks off in just over ten days and with a multitude of Arsenal players on show in Switzerland and Austria it will be essential vie...

FABREGAS: GUNNERS CAN DO DREAM DOUBLE
2008-03-05 09:21:00
Cesc Fabregas sees no reason why Arsenal cannot now go on to complete a Champions League and Barclays Premier League double after knocking out European Cup holders AC Milan in the San Siro - although manager Arsene Wenger also wants to keep everyone focused and their feet firmly on the ground. The Gunners produced a near-perfect, battling display, as they closed down the Italians at every chance on Tuesday night en route to recording a 2-0 second leg victory following the goalless draw at The Emirates.Their patience and hard work was rewarded in the San Siro when Fabregas, who had earlier hit the crossbar, thundered in a 25-yard effort with just six minutes remaining.A second from Emmanuel Adebayor - his opening goal for Arsenal in the Champions League - sealed a famous win, as the Serie A giants were beaten for the first time by an English side.It was a performance which will have sent a stern message across Europe that the young Gunners are now without question a force to the recko...

Milan 0 - 2 Arsenal by Fabregas & Adebayor
2008-03-04 23:34:00
Late goals from Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor sent Arsenal FC through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of holders AC Milan. Fabregas decisiveWith the game heading towards extra time an enthralling game was effectively decided with six minutes to go as Fabregas, who had earlier hit the bar, received the ball on the halfway line, ran 15 metres and unleashed a low shot onto the bottom corner of Zeljko Kalac's goal. Adebayor completed the memorable victory as substitute Theo Walcott raced down the right to square for the Togo international to score his first goal in the competition this season. Maldini header Arsenal knew an away goal would leave the European champions with a huge mountain to climb and set about trying to break the deadlock early on. Aleksandr Hleb shot over from distance but his effort only served to spark a flurry of activity at the other end, where Pato danced his way past four defenders and unleashed a venomous shot of his own...

arsenal outclass reading as fabregas gets clever
2007-11-13 01:50:00
A few observations on last (Monday) nights game against Reading. The home teams game plan against Arsenal became pretty obvious within the first few minutes of the game, with all nine outfield players getting behind the ball. Leaving their one striker up front, against the dual powerhouses of both Toure and Gallas meant that Almunia had little to do all game. Having said that however, Reading did well not to concede until the 44th minute after Adebayor had come close in the first few minutes, and it was a credit to their defending and hassling that meant that at times, Arsenal looked like the team from last season who could...

Table Topping Fabregas and Adebayor Smash Spurs
2007-09-16 00:02:00
Scintillating. Absolutely bloody scintillating result. Arsenal top the table with a ferocious win over the Old Enemy, in their backyard, and we head into the Champions League kicking and screaming as the current domestic pace-setters. It all went a bit crook in the first half, though. Gareth Bale swung in what is now a trademark free-kick, ...

Fabregas aims for Arsenal captaincy
2007-07-19 08:34:00
It is "One Year On" series on arsenal.com and as part of it, Cesc Fabregas was interviewed. He was asked a few questions including his thoughts on captaining Arsenal one day. And this was his response.Everybody wants this kind of responsibility and 100 per cent me as well. It something that I have liked ever since I have been young and it would be no problem for me to be captain of this club. It's good to hear from him that he wants to take more responsibility. And this might give us a good hint that he's here to stay. That's pretty relieving too. If he stays, in a few seasons he'll be the Arsenal captain for sure. Such is the enthusiasm and commitment from this gem of a player. And when asked about the future of the club, this was his answer. The future is looking good. We have very good young players and most of them are teenagers. We are all ready to fight for the League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carling Cup, for everything. We must fight for everything that is in f...

Fabregas Taunts Blackburn Manager Mark Hughes With Barcelona Jibe
2007-02-19 10:20:03
Cesc Fabregas has apologised to Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes having insulting him after the FA Cup tie at the Emirates Stadium. The young Spaniard gave Hughes the tongue lashing after his side had held by a reasonably negative Rovers performance.  In the after match conference Hughes explained the spat saying: “He came off the pitch and asked me if I had played for Barcelona and when I said that, yes I did, he said something to the effect of `that wasn’t Barcelona football, was it ?” The Rovers performance was much better than their last at the new Arsenal stadium, when they were played off the park and beaten 6-2. The satisfaction of the performance was disappeared though when Hughes and Fabregas exchanged words. Hughes explained how he felt saying “I thought the boy showed disrespect to somebody who has won a lot more FA Cups than him,”. Fabregas who was part of the Barca youth system, has extended an apology to Hughes, citing his poor personal p...
Van Persie, Fabregas Won?t Play
2007-01-05 14:36:05
Good news for Liverpool fans ahead of the weekend is that Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas won’t be taking part in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal, both having picked up five bookings thus far this season. The two sides clash this Saturday and again on Tuesday for the Carling Cup (rescheduled due to fog before Christmas) so there is likely to be changes between the two games. Liverpool no doubt looking to hold on to the trophy should name a relatively unchanged side to the one who beat Bolton at the weekend while William Gallas and ‘The Beast’ Julio Baptista should return for The Gunners.
