GoDaddy.com Faces Huge Protests For Its SOPA Support. Drops Support For SOP
2011-12-26 09:00:00
GoDaddy.com is the go-to place for registering your website online. It is one of the big players in domain registering in the digital world. Their website claims that they manage over 50 million domain names for more than 9 million customers worldwide. Now, imagine all those domains going away to their competitors in a stroke! Why? Because they support the controversial bill known as the SOPA. We have covered it earlier and explained why this bill is counter-productive to the workings and proliferation of the Internet at large. Many Internet entrepreneurs have come together to denounce this bill because they strongly believe that this bill is not healthy for the spread of information through the web. After coming to know that it was one of the companies listed as supporting the SOPA, many website owners and entrepreneurs who are dead against this bill have threatened a complete boycott of GoDaddy’s services. Foremost of among them is Ben Huh, CEO of Cheezburger which runs a coll...

TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline Faces Political Peril: Ian Doig
2011-12-06 21:30:00
The Energy Report: After months of debate, the U.S. State Department recently announced that it would take another year to study alternative routes for TransCanada Corp.’s (TRP:TSX) proposed $7 billion (B), 2,700 kilometer Keystone XL Pipeline system. Why the departure from previous federal statements that the project, which filed its application in 2008, was on track for approval to begin pumping in 2013? Ian Doig: Since the State Department issued its positive report in August, TransCanada’s system faced many roadblocks that it couldn’t jump over. The Inspector General ordered a special review on the work that Cardno ENTRIX of Houston had conducted on Keystone XL’s economic impact study. The firm had previously done work for TransCanada and identified the . . . → Read More: TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline Faces Political Peril: Ian Doig

Mario Monti Faces A Tough Challenge Fixing Italy?s Problems

Source: Advanced Currency Markets | G10 Advancers and Decliners vs USD EUR 0.32 GBP 0.15 JPY -0.18 CHF -0.19 Incumbent Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti may have cleared his first hurdle by winning yesterday?s confidence vote in the senate, but the political outlook in Italy continues to hinder the recovery of Eurozone sentiment, ensuring that EURUSD remains under pressure and equities struggle. There was perhaps a misguided sense of optimism when Berlusconi vacated the position of Prime Minister, as… Read More …

Healthcare Social Media Faces To Follow
2011-10-27 12:44:00
Thanks so much to the Fierce Health IT site for putting me on a list of "11 Faces to Follow in Healthcare Social Media." You can see the full list at this link, and, let me tell you, it is definitely the "A" list of people. I'm humbled and honored to be a part of it. If you cannot see the graphic above from the site, here is some of what they wrote about me: Why you should follow him: Sevilla says that doctors in the family medicine specialty have a lot to gain from being active members of the social media community. He also says that patients will drive such a movement as they become more acclimated with platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. "[U]sing social media is very important, in my opinion, to help tell our story," Sevilla wrote in a recent blog post. "For too long, I believe that we, as a specialty, have let others define who we are. Social media has a chance to change that." Until this year, Sevilla blogged about patients anonymously as a "release" o...

The White Sox free agency is in bizarro-land. The sure-thing perennially producing DH is getting booed before his at-bats now. Jesse Crain and Will Ohman--relievers whose performance can't be trusted--are pretty much exactly the guys the Sox paid for. A.J. is having a mini-offensive resurgence, and his re-signing has still managed to be questionable And Paul Konerko, the aging, tenured slugger with the flashy career-season in a contract year that they should have known better than to re-up, is threatening to have the best year of his career again.

As the 1.7 million college students of the class of 2011 graduate, they face one of the highest unemployment rates for college graduates in U.S. history. Emanuel faces growing suburban dominance
2011-03-01 04:50:00
Downtown Naperville   Rahm Emanuel may be the only Chicago mayor to have been raised in the suburbs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But it made me think about what might be Mayor-elect Emanuel's most lasting and profound problem — the growing suburban dominance of the Chicago metropolitan area.Almost symbolically, as Chicago voters were giving Emanuel a resounding endorsement, the new, 2010 census figures arrived. It showed that some 200,000 Chicagoans — almost 7 percent of the population — fled the city in the last decade. It's as if the entire population of Aurora, the state's second-largest city, had suddenly disappeared. What is this, Detroit?...

Chicago Elects a New Mayor.Chicago, Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor of Chicago yesterday with slightly over 55% of the vote.  Hopes are high for the former top adviser to two U.S. presidents to rescue Chicago from its financial woes and create unity.  In reference to a high-profile legal challenge to his residency, Emanuel began last night's acceptance speech by declaring "All I can say, you sure know how to make a guy fell at home." The 51-year-old Mayor-elect, Emanuel will be sworn into office on May 16, 2011 when the real work will commence.  Emanuel has found success in almost all he has pursued.  Check out his many faces in...

Psychologists find skill in recognizing faces peaks after age 30
2010-12-22 01:51:00
Scientists have made the surprising discovery that our ability to recognize and remember faces peaks at age 30 to 34, about a decade later than most of our other mental abilities. Researchers Laura T. Germine and Ken Nakayama of Harvard University and Bradley Duchaine of Dartmouth College will present their work in a forthcoming issue of the journal Cognition. While prior evidence had suggested that face recognition might be slow to mature, Germine says few scientists had suspected that it might continue building for so many years into adulthood. She says the late-blooming nature of face recognition may simply be a case of practice making perfect.

Song Of The Day - "(I Know) I'm Losing You" by Faces
2010-12-14 14:51:00
By Eric Berman Song Of The Day - "(I Know) I'm Losing You" by Faces There was a time when Rod Stewart wasn't the ballad singing joke with the croak.  He was once a credible rocker as seen in this 1971 live clip from the BBC performing a swaggering version of a classic Motown track by the Temptations. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a stellar backing band like the Faces with Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, Kenny Jones and Ian McLagan. On one level, Stewart has managed to stay in the public eye selling millions of records long past his prime...and that's not an easy thing to pull off.  But listening to him murder the standards today is clearly not for me.  ...

The thing I've enjoyed most about life post-graduation is seeing what all of my friends have planned for their (immediate) futures. In the past sixth or so months, I've had friends who have moved home and started working, friends that have moved to new cities and started working, friends who are still looking for jobs and friends who are leaving the country for a year of schooling and service. Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do. Some stay home because they want to move out on their own dime. Others move out because they need their independence/change of scenery. Not many decide to move out of the country to do something completely unknown to them. It takes a...
Facebook Faces Lawsuit For Patent Infringement
2010-11-26 06:45:00
Many of you may be wondering why we cover quite a large number of news stories on Facebook. We certainly cannot help in this regard given the fact that it is a global phenomenon today. And it’s the more the merrier proposition now. Businessweek reports that Facebook was sued for patent infringement by a person behind Priceline.com. And the person is none other than its co-founder Jay S. Walker, who also owned Walker Digital LLC, a Connecticut based company that develop, protect and commercialize intellectual property, which lost most of its stocks during the dotcom bubble crash. The company has filed a lawsuit against the social networking giant stating that it has misappropriated an invention that helps computers users establish anonymous communications. In the claim, Walker mentioned that three of his company’s employees invented a system that allows users to manage and control effectively the flow of personal information and Facebook violates that invention. There is specu...

Happy birthday, Joshua!
2010-10-08 08:41:00
Six years ago, everyone in the household in Roxas City was frantic, rushing around in preparation for your arrival... of course, I had to come home, too, albeit 5months later, just to see you! At 5months, you were already an epitome of little boy charm and cuteness. You were the first apo (grandchild) in the family, and every one fell in love with you. Grandma would rush to check on you the moment she heard something. Grandpa beamed with pride when you showed him your toothless smile. Tito Bigg and Tito Jeck forgot about their barkadas after work and school to rush home just to play with you or see you before you sleep. I spent my short holiday looking after you so that Mamagirl could have some time for herself. It was a special moment for me having seen you, and held you in my arms, even only for a short time. Time flew so fast... from being the family's Superboy... I remember your Mamagirl telling me how you refused to take off your Superboy costume! ... to your current ...

After India, BlackBerry Faces Problems In Other Countries
2010-08-06 05:57:00
The United Arab Emirates has outlined plans to block BlackBerry e-mail, messaging and web browsing services. Following suit, Saudi Arabia is ordering its mobile operators to halt BlackBerry services throughout the kingdom starting this Friday. India has already notified BlackBerry maker in no uncertain terms that it must share its data with the government’s intelligence agencies to continue operations in the country.  Further to this, Lebanon and Indonesia have also joined the list of countries concerned about the BlackBerry network and started assessing its services. Reason The governments of various countries cite a potential security threat because encrypted data sent on the devices is moved abroad, where it cannot be monitored for illegal activity. Thus, messages, SMSes, emails sent through BlackBerry devices cannot be monitored by country’s intelligence agencies for security purposes. Thus the cause of concern is that BlackBerry services can be used by militants for commu...

So, like a true American, you try to protect your property by firing a few shots at the scum. This is all as it should be. This is America where we have rights to defend ourselves and our property. The police later discover the thieves, two illegals from south of the border, and they readily admit that they stole the...
Walsh Campaign Again Faces Lawsuit
2010-06-24 23:00:00
Former Campaign Manager Files Amended Complaint for Unpaid Services MORTON GROVE, IL -- This morning in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Keith Liscio, former Campaign Manager for 8th Congressional District Republican nominee Joe Walsh, filed an amended complaint against Walsh's campaign for unpaid campaign management services on behalf of his firm Patrickson-Hirsch Associates. Liscio originally brought suit against the campaign in January seeking payment of $20,000 in unpaid fees but that complaint was dismissed without prejudice last month on a pair of legal technicalities. Specifically, the judge in the case ruled that Liscio's complaint must explicitly state that Mr. Walsh and Mr. Liscio's agreement in the case was oral and that the complaint must list Liscio's campaign duties and...

The fund, Diamond Ventures, which is based in Atlanta and run by two African-American men, planned to invest in poor, largely black communities in the Southeast. Unions Cutting off Noses To Spite Their Faces
2010-04-05 19:23:00
-By Warner Todd Huston Despite all our talk of CommieObamie being a socialist, it is a straight out fact that the far left in America are mad that Obama didn't turn us into the U.S.S.R. lite the second he took office. His pace at selling us out and turning us into a social democratic system ala France isn't happening fast enough for them. For unions the fact that Obama hasn't summarily castrated the business community and forced card check down everyone's throats yet is a downer. And with that in mind, unions have announced that they are taking their ire out on those mythical "Blue Dog" Democrats that are trying to run for reelection in conservative districts in the upcoming...
