China US Relations. Fair And Balanced.
2008-08-04 07:44:00
Howard French of the New York Times just came out with an exceedingly thoughtful and balanced piece on the progression of rights in China, entitled, "Despite Flaws, Rights in China Have Expanded." The content of the article tracks the title and it is well worth reading. Plus, I completely agree with it. China still obviously has a ways to go, but I do not think it fair or realistic to expect China to instantly be where the United States and Denmark and Canada are today. I say this not because I believe Asia is different or China is different, but because I believe Asia and China are the same. Because China is the same, it will not become "free" overnight, as that virtually never happens (I often cite post-Franco Spain as a rare exception). As I have said from this blog's very inception, I see it following in the path of South Korea and Japan, both of which have made amazing economic and political strides over the last 50 years, but not instantly. China does not deserve a fr...

?Fair and Balanced? Teaching on Evolution
2008-06-05 00:51:00
We’ve already seen the religious right turn to intelligent design when their attempts to teach creationism in the schools was shot down. With this tactic not working, The New York Times reports they have come up with a new strategy: Starting this summer, the state education board will determine the curriculum for the next decade and ...
Fair and Balanced Popular Vote Totals
2008-05-06 02:43:00
A NYT op-ed by Rhodes Cook: While Hillary Clinton probably can’t catch Barack Obama in the race for most pledged delegates at the Democratic presidential nominating convention, she does have a shot at overtaking him in the popular vote. Whoever triumphs in that symbolic total will have a persuasive argument to use with the wavering superdelegates ...
Clinton Campaign Praises ?Fair and Balanced Fox? Again
2008-04-23 20:47:00
A few weeks ago I noted how Clinton has been joining forces with the “vast right wing conspiracy” (possibly because they now hold similar views on most issues beyond economics and abortion). One example was given in this post where Clinton surrogate Ed Rendell said, “FOX has done the fairest job, and remained the ...
Daily Show Documentary on ?Fair and Balanced News Channel?
2008-04-12 09:05:00
You may have thought over the past 7 years that the Fox News channel was an extension of the Bush administration. According to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Fox News has now been around for 12 wonderful years. On Thursday night John Oliver of The Daily Show began a two part documentary on the Fox News channel showing just how ?fair and balanced? they actually have been. The parts of the piece only total about 10 minutes but it is all that is needed to show the different types of coverage that is given to two different administrations. When it came to executive privilege, journalists for Fox News wanted it limited during the Clinton administration and expanded during the Bush administration. Clinton?s matter was a personal and sexual matter, yet the journalists at Fox News felt that Clinton should have to testify by order of Republicans in congress. Bill O?Reilly for example, was outraged when Democrats wanted Bush?s advisors to testify before congress ove...

Fair And Balanced: MSNBC Hosts Continue To Laugh At GOP Speeches

From Media Bistro: Remember when MSNBC laughed at John McCain’s victory speech in New Hampshire? Well, Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann (and the MSNBC folks that can be heard in the background) were equally unimpressed with Fred Thompson’s speech: addthis_url = 'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thehotjoints.-com%2F2008%2F01%2F20%2Ffair-and--balanced-msnbc-hosts-continue--to-laugh-at-gop-speeches%2F'; addthis_title = 'Fair+And+Balanced%3A+MSNBC+Hos-ts+Continue+To+Laugh+At+GOP+Spe-eches'; addthis_pub = ...

Fair and Balanced
2008-01-17 05:05:00
There are few web sites that are "fair and balanced" but Joe Gandelman's The Moderate Voice comes as close as any. Well the problem with being fair and balanced and widely read is you get hacked. Now I have tried to keep MEJ free to me and free to you. Since I don't get that much traffic, aka not worth the effort, I can still do that. Joe can't for all the right reasons so it would be nice if you could send a penny or two his way. Details here:Fundraiser: Help The Moderate Voice Stabilize And Grow
Fair and Balanced
2007-12-27 17:16:00
TV election news has been hardest on Hillary Clinton this fall, while Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee have been the biggest media favorites, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study also found that Fox NewsChannel's evening news show provided more balanced coverage than its counterparts on the broadcast networks. Well there you go... Hillary loving conspiracy nuts will be happy that this study confirms what they already know, that Hillary gets the short end of the coverage stick. But how will they reconcile it with the fact that the study concludes that Fox News provided the most "Fair and balanced" coverage of the cable news shows? Apparently the Democratic candidates decided to boycott the "most balanced" network because they saw "balance" as bias? Doesn't surprise me.

Al Gore: News Coverage on Global Warming TOO Fair and Balanced
2007-11-06 14:53:00
Al Gore says the the main stream media doesn’t need to look at the science that disproves anthropogenic global warming. There’s noo need for it. It’s the same as covering someone who says the Earth is flat when reporting the Earth is round. Right. Newsbusters has the video. What a joke. And yes, I mean ...

In a move that throws all claims of being fair and balanced out the window, CNN has hired a polling company owned by a long time activist for the Clintons as their newest polling organization to track the 2008 election cycle. Any guesses who THIS polling company will say is “winning”? CNN has announced that Opinion Research [...]
