China US Relations. Fair And Balanced.
2008-08-04 07:44:00 Howard French of the New York Times just came out with an exceedingly thoughtful and balanced piece on the progression of rights in China, entitled, "Despite Flaws, Rights in China Have Expanded." The content of the article tracks the title and it is well worth reading. Plus, I completely agree with it. China still obviously has a ways to go, but I do not think it fair or realistic to expect China to instantly be where the United States and Denmark and Canada are today. I say this not because I believe Asia is different or China is different, but because I believe Asia and China are the same. Because China is the same, it will not become "free" overnight, as that virtually never happens (I often cite post-Franco Spain as a rare exception). According to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Fox News has now been around for 12 wonderful years. On Thursday night John Oliver of The Daily Show began a two part documentary on the Fox News channel showing just how ?fair and balanced? they actually have been. The parts of the piece only total about 10 minutes but it is all that is needed to show the different types of coverage that is given to two different administrations. 2007-12-27 17:16:00 TV election news has been hardest on Hillary Clinton this fall, while Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee have been the biggest media favorites, according to a new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) at George Mason University. The study also found that Fox NewsChannel's evening news show provided more balanced coverage than its counterparts on the broadcast networks. Well there you go... Hillary loving conspiracy nuts will be happy that this study confirms what they already know, that Hillary gets the short end of the coverage stick. But how will they reconcile it with the fact that the study concludes that Fox News provided the most "Fair and balanced" coverage of the cable news shows? Apparently the Democratic candidates decided to boycott the "most balanced" network because they saw "balance" as bias? Doesn't surprise me.
