Essence of Problem of ?Fairness Doctrine?
2009-02-16 20:18:00 At Protein Wisdom, Dan Collins gets at the essence of the problem of the “Fairness Doctrine,” “The problem with defining diversity of perspective is, of course, that someone must do the defining.“ That’s one reason why, in determining who should be allowed to speak out on issue of national concern, I prefer freedom to fairness. California Attorney General Jerry Brown On The Fairness Doctrine "A Little
2009-02-15 15:53:00 Audio from Michael Savage here. More on this from World Net Daily:"A little state control wouldn't hurt anybody," declared Jerry Brown, California's Democrat attorney general, in on air comments yesterday about the possible reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine.""You have a point of view and I have a point of view and they are different. I think the clash can sometimes illuminate the two better than just a one sided presentation," stated Brown, during an exclusive interview with Michael Savage broadcast on the top talker's national radio show.Savage countered by positing any revival of the "Fairness Doctrine" is aimed at muting conservative talk radio. Brown replying by stating Savage's suggestion had the "tinge of paranoia."It "would not apply to any other element of the media. It's aimed strictly at us in the minority in the media," Savage shot back. "And they want us controlled and constrained and removed from the airwaves. They only want to hear progressive voic...

We Need The Fairness Doctrine
2009-02-13 01:19:00 Or so says Bill Clinton. “Well, you either ought to have the Fairness Doctrine or we ought to have more balance on the other side,” You know, God forbid we actually follow the first amendment. How I Could Support the ?Fairness Doctrine?
2009-02-09 11:05:00 This week we’ve learned that Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow had proposed hearings on reinstituting the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” in order “to be bringing accountability to the airwaves.“ Basically, she and other supporters of this doctrine (which is anything but fair) favor it as a means to silence the one area of the media where conservatives ...

Fairness Doctrine Issue In Indiana Congressional Race
2008-06-24 07:04:00 Photo by jurvetson A candidate for Indiana’s second district congressional seat has taken a stance against the “Fairness Doctrine,” saying that instead of fostering speech, imposing requirements for “fairness” will actually limit free speech because it will make radio stations afraid to air controversial viewpoints, commentaries and talk radio shows. Says Republican Luke Puckett on the “Fairness Doctrine“: I strongly support Rep. Mike Pence’s effort to keep the Fairness Doctrine from coming back. The Fairness Doctrine is simply a thinly veiled attempt to muzzle the free speech rights and freedom of association rights of broadcasters, show hosts and listeners. We must not let it be reinstated now or at any time in the future. While fairness is an admirable goal, when the “Fairness Doctrine” was in effect, there weren’t any radio talk shows — either on the left or the right — because radio executives were fe...
Back Door Fairness Doctrine?
2008-05-27 16:09:00 A new style of censorship is being considered by the Federal Communications Commission. The left understands the stigma attached to the "Fairness Doctrine," so rather than try to reestablish it, they are taking another route to achieve the same goal.

Dobble Head
2008-03-16 17:29:00 Gobs of Dobbs from R&R's Talk Radio Seminar. The setting: Renaissance Hotel DC ballroom. Ted Baxter's body language double Dobbs slithers his way up to the stage after his suck-up intro by ex-Fox News Tee Vee talking head John "The Big Story" Gibson now languishing in Dante's radio inferno as of last week. Me (insincerely): "It really sucks about your TV show." Gibson (deflated like a day-old helium balloon): "It [Fox radio Siberia] really is a terrific thing... In TV I just read the TelePrompTer"... Me: "Like an automobile assembly line." Gibson (demurring): "I don't want to say anything. I might still end up on TV." Or words to that effect. Back to Lou. He takes two calculated steps up the stairs. Turns around. Walks in front of the stage microphone in hand reveling in his introduction as a "super talent." "Can I do this?" croons Lou. "I feel like a college professor." [behind the podium] "Thank you Fox News!" Yeah, he never thought he'd be saying that. Laughs and cl...

When Johnny Comes Marching Home
2008-03-02 14:53:00 No, I'm not talking about Bill with his crooked (so Paula Jones claimed) johnson tucked between his legs. This is another serial horndog, Jack Nicholson, in a Tee Vee ad for Hillary that is more of narcissistic Joker's film retrospective than an Hillary endorsement. Cue the music bed: "When Johnny Comes Marching Home..." Cable Tee Vee talking heads are yakking about Hillary's "secret" campaign detour to "Saturday Night Live" last night to rebut the Obama SNL thing. SNL was up Hillary's ass like a Richard Gere gerbil. The SNL hamster wheel spinning attacks on Tim Russert, Brian Williams, and NBC's Hillary "media bias." That tells you what kind of president she'd be. Miz Red Phone Ready From Day One would've served America far better had she taken a secret sojourn to say - Kosovo. To that end eight guys who dropped out of the presidential race (Mitt & Rudy conspicuously MIA) tell the New York Times their views on the most pressing issues. Oh, and NBC: the FCC repealed the ...

El Rushblows
2007-10-01 23:30:00 Harry Reid knows how to hit a guy where it hurts. Clamp his dick in a political vise. The Senate majority leader is bitching to Clear Channel which owns Premiere which syndicates El Rushbo to do something about Rush's "attack" on U.S. troops. The Democrat sent a letter to CC CEO Mark Mays to prod him to "denounce" the talk blowhard for his "phony troops" remark. Translation: you may not find it so easy for your high-paid lobbyists to wend their way successfully around Capitol Hill. Rush blabbed on his show today that Democratic sleazebags are ponying up a phony issue to "smear" him. Rush, they KNOW they'll never silence you. Democrats are frustrated. All this blue smoke and mirrors about a renewed Fairness Doctrine (the repeal of equal time in the 80s gave rise to Rush and his ilk), is nothing but Democrats blowing steam.

New Book Warns of Emerging Liberal Nanny State . . .
2007-07-16 16:11:00 Given the Libertarian slant of this web page, I think it most appropriate to push a book that discusses certain elements of this country and their attempts at eradicating personal responsibility and instituting a nanny state. David Harsanyi is releasing a new book called ?Nanny State: How Food Fascists, Teetotalling Do Gooders, Priggish Moralists, and Other Boneheaded bureaucrats are Turning America into a Nation of Children.?Harsaanyi describes the book in this following message:?Nanny State details the rise of the busybody -? those who act as our parents, making decisions for us in the name of health, safety and decency. Nanny State asks: Why are we allowing politicians, bureaucrats, and social activists to dictate what we eat, where we smoke, how much we drink or what we watch and read? The book argues that allowing government intervention in its citizens' private lives not only denies us freedom of choice, but also erodes our national character by promoting a culture of victimh...
Fairness Doctrine making a comeback?
2007-07-16 15:28:00 Here in Nashville radio is much like any other major town. There are the oldies stations, the hip-hop stops, and a plethora of country stations. There is also no shortage of talk radio. One particular station, 99.7fm WWTN particularly comes to mind. In the morning drive there's Ralph Bristol, followed by midday with Michael DelGiorno, finance guy Dave Ramsey, and then Phil Valentine on your way home. Ramsey notwithstanding (his show is not about politics), they are all conservatives. Bristol is a quasi-libertarian, DelGiorno is a Christo-Republican, and Valentine is also very much to the right. Liberals have tried to come on the airways I'm sure, but to no avail. Why? They just do not sell. Simply put, the majority of people don't want them. Nationally the scene is similar. While Hannity, Limbaugh, and Savage are doing quite well, Air America, and other such liberal outlets flounder into the past. People just don't want to listen. They have enough influence on the major network...
Senate Democrats Support the Fairness Doctrine by Blocking a Crucial Amendm
2007-07-15 06:11:00 In an act of pure arrogance and stupidity, Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule that gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but allows government control of political content as well. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and other Republicans have been attempting to mirror the actions of Mike Pence (R-IN). Pence effectively thwarted the reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine in the House of Representatives. We should all be proud to have politicians working for the American people as diligently at him. Sadly, however, when Coleman (R-Minn.), tried to bring up his amendment Friday to a defense authorization bill, Democrat Senator Carl Levin objected. More frightening, Senator Levin is not the only communist who supports the Fairness Doctrine. For example, Senator John Kerry, Senator Dick Durbin, and Dianne Feinstein s...
A Battle Over The Fairness Doctrine?
2007-07-13 12:26:00 No problem. Bring it on. That is, of course, as long as it's a "fair" fight. That means to include the overwhelmingly liberal National Pablum Radio, which we as taxpayers are forced to fund. And also the print media, which the author of the following piece indicates has always been exempt. Considering the fact that the print media uses our public thoroughfares to distribute their wares, including them in a renewed quest for a re-issuance of the Fairness Doctrine would only be "fair", right? Liberals are hailing a report that calls for federal regulations to end the "structural imbalance in political talk radio." Two think tanks, the Center for American Progress and the Free Press, complain that more than 90 percent of the programs on talk radio feature conservative hosts and themes while only 10 percent are "progressive." Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has promised to examine the report's recommendations for possible legislation and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., says flatly, "It'...

The ?Fairness Doctrine? Temporarily Thwarted by Mike Pence, Indiana Represe
2007-06-29 23:40:00 In an effort to combat reimplementation of the archaic ?Fairness Doctrine,? Congressman Mike Pence, together with Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and RSC Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) introduced an amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2829) yesterday. Thankfully the Amendment passed 309-115. The next question is, ?Who are the 115 Stalinists?? Here is what Mike Pence?s Amendment will do: It will prohibit funds in the Bill from being used by the Federal Communications Commission to impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. This is no small feat. It is a monumental victory for free speech and Pence should be commended for protecting the 1st Amendment. Moreover, the fear of the ?Fairness Doctrine? is certainly warranted. It is one of the most dangerous laws ever conceived over the last hundred years. It gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but it would allow government control of political content a...

Dems Pushing 'Fairness Doctrine' And Making a Huge Mistake
2007-06-28 14:50:00 John Kerry, among other democrats, is attempting to revive a law that was suspended (but left on the books, unfortunately) in 1987 which would require equal time for opposing viewpoints on radio and television. In a report by WND, Kerry is quoted as saying..."These are the people that wiped out ? one of the most profound changes in thebalance of the media is when the conservatives got rid of the equal timerequirements and the result is that they have been able to squeeze down andsqueeze out opinion of opposing views and I think its been a very importanttransition in the imbalance of our public eye," What Kerry isn't telling you is that the FCC provision was suspended with the support of a Democrat-controlled Congress. He's also omitting the fact that the reason the provision was enacted in the first place was because there were, at the time, only three media networks from which a person could get information. Obviously, times have changed, and the average person has numerous so...

Democrats and the Fairness Doctrine
2007-05-15 12:50:00 Knowing that they cannot compete on the merits of their ideas, Democrats love to try to silence the competition. Why is it that it is the Republicans that always get accused of censorship? Rush Limbaugh explains it this way: Bring it on! Pelosi and the Democrats are resurrecting The Fairness Doctrine to shut up Rush. The left saw their liberal radio network go down in flames, but they won't accept that they cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas. No, they're going to require local radio stations to "balance" Rush's commentary, knowing it will create hassles so thick that radio stations will drop the show. "It's a pure Stalinist tactic," Rush says. "Elected officials of government are attempting to deny private citizens access to the microphone." The focus of Democrats is to make war on Rush, not Al-Qaeda. It's not just Rush, though, it's a host of conservative radio hosts. Of course, Rush is the biggest name, but there are others.
