2008-06-10 17:48:00
1up.com is reporting that Bethesda, makers of the award winning Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, are releasing yet another special edition for their upcoming Fallout 3 game, but listen up fanboys and girls, you can only get it through Amazon.com!If the metallic-lunchbox-encased Fallout 3 Collector's Edition just not hardcore enough for you? Then perhaps you should shift your attention toward the Fallout 3 Survival Edition instead. Announced by Bethesda Softworks today, the Survival Edition (available for all three versions of the game) will come with everything the special edition has, plus a life-size replica of the Pip-Boy 3000 wrist device worn by the main character in the game. And it'll only run you $119.99. Unfortunately, you can't actually wear the replica in real life; it'll function as a digital clock, perfect to clutter your desk with. If you want one, though, you'll have to go through Amazon to get it, as the Survival Edition is exclusive to the online retailer. And you ...

More Steiner Fallout
2008-06-09 00:24:00
Keven Eck of The Baltimore Sun gives his thoughts on the Scott Steiner interviews: Triple H – For someone like Steiner who loathes the political games in wrestling, it’s no surprise that he has nothing good to say about “The Game.” I don’t think it’s accurate, however, when Steiner says that Triple H only got his spot on top because he is married to Stephanie McMahon. Triple H was among the upper echelon and won his first WWE world title before hooking up with Stephanie. He deserves his spot as one of the top guys in the company. However, I don’t think he would be a 12-time world champion if he wasn’t married to Vince McMahon’s daughter. And I do think he has used his political influence to try to keep down certain guys that he perceived as a threat to his spot – namely Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle. On the other hand, he was instrumental in making superstars of Batista and Randy Orton. And, just like Flair, Triple H has been a victim of politics at t...

Fallout 3 Collectors Edition lunch box and contents
2008-06-04 18:26:00
Twenty dollars more for a collector's edition eh? Well Bethesda looks to be making this one as worth it as they can, by cramming it full of creative extras. This isn't just a simple "Making of" DVD (though there is one of those too). There's also the bobble head, the 100 page hardcover art book, and the nuclear-devastation ready lunch box to hold it all in. Plus, y'know, the game. That is the most important part after all, but to tell the truth this looks like a great example of how to do a CE right. As long as the game is the at the level of quality we hope it is, we might just have to knuckle under and shell out the extra money ....[Via Big Download]

Fallout 3 soundtrack made by Inon Zur
2008-05-08 14:19:00
Announced today was that Inon Zur has created the original musical score for Bethesda Softworks’ post-apocalyptic game, Fallout 3. Zur, an award-winning composer, has created numerous scores for films, television, and new media. Most recently, he composed music for CBS’ Ghost Whisperer: The Other Side TV webisode series as well as the Marvel Kids webisodes for Iron Man. But you know better from music in Crysis and the Warhammer 40,000 expansions. You can listen to three of Mr. Inon’s tracks from Fallout 3 in the Downloads section of the Fallout 3 website. “We’ve wanted to work with Inon for a long time,” said Todd Howard executive producer of Fallout 3. “He brings so much to the table, in terms of his talent, background, and the music that’s influenced him. He’s created a score that has epic sweep; from the lonely ambience of the wasteland to dramatic fights for survival.” Currently under development at Bethesda Game Studios &m...

Fallout from the Diet and Baby Gender Link
2008-04-26 15:54:00
Midwives are concerned at the possible fallout that may result from the recent link found between the quality of a woman's diet and her baby's gender. This article discusses the need for women to be vigilant about quality food intake so that they can provide the best start to their babies.I hadn't thought about this possible downfall to the latest research but their concern seems valid especially when you consider the natural need and desire by both men and women to want full control over their pregnancy and birth. The bottom line is, whether you want a boy or a girl, eating the best that you can can help to ensure a healthy pregnancy, a health baby, and a healthy adult child as well because nutrition during pregnancy can lead the foundation for your baby's entire life.

Still More "Bitter" Fallout
2008-04-15 17:49:00
Once again, I truly apologize for dwelling on the faux issue of the moment, but there is such an avalanche of media and political spin out there that some of it must be addressed; the fact that Kristol Mess AND BoBo are both chimed in, for example (the latter today) tells you something. What it tells you, actually, is that our media-political-industrial complex has worked itself into the greatest froth I?ve ever since I started this blog; the only thing comparable was the Terri Schiavo circus, which I fortunately missed (for posting purposes, anyway). And their goal is nothing less that to take remarks uttered by Obama that are absolutely true and use them to make the voters of this country recoil out of umbrage (and of course, since these clowns hold sway over our discourse for the most part, they seem to be doing that).George Will treats us to a hilarious column where he pretends to care about the middle class (sorry, but find your own link if you want). Bob Herbert criticized Obam...
More ?Bitter? Fallout
2008-04-14 18:16:00
I almost feel like I should apologize for continuing to waste people?s time with this stuff? Thanks to Hillary Clinton?s continued parsing of Republican Party talking points, the supposed issue of Barack Obama?s view of small-town America continues to play out in our corporate media; as I noted last night, that was the lead in the story of the ?Faith Forum? in Harrisburg last night instead of the fact that John W. McBush didn?t even bother to show up.Today, though, we learn the following from here?In the wake of the uproar following Barack Obama's comments about how some voters "get bitter" and "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," the Obama campaign has released a so-called "robo-call" featuring York, Pennsylvania mayor John Brenner. In the call, Brenner defends Obama and says "he's got it right.""Barack Obama understands us," Brenner says. "He's got it r...

Interplay reaffirms Fallout MMO; Earthworm Jim, MDK sequels
2008-04-10 02:08:00
It's been awhile since we've had an update on Interplay's long-promised Fallout MMO.To get some of you up to speed: plans for a Fallout MMO that could revive the ailing company were teased out of a November 2006 SEC filing. In April of the following year, Bethesda - already hard at work on Fallout 3 - bought the rights to the series from Interplay for $5.75 million. The deal allowed Interplay to be a licensee, paying Bethesda a 12% royalty on net sales of the still-vaporous Fallout MMO. In August, Interplay's CEO stated in an earning statement that "Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay" and in November the company revealed ambitions to rekindle franchises like Earthworm Jim, MDK, Descent, and Dark Alliance. Now, in yet another earnings report wrapping up their 2007 fiscal year, Interplay reaffirms its ambition to secure funding for the Fallout MMO as well as "creating sequels to some of its most successful games," notably the four listed above. To that e...

Madden NFL 09 gets a date nailed down, while Rockstar outlines online features for GTA IV.Bethesda drops the bomb. This week marked the third birthday for our portable pal, PSP. Sony has sold 31 million PSPs worldwide to date, which in large part can be attributed to a stream of great games since the handheld's release in the spring of 2005. God of War: Chains of Olympus, Patapon, and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII have given PSP an awesome start to 2008; however, Senior Marketing Manager John Koller insisted the best is yet to come. "A lot of very strong PSP titles are coming in late 2008," teased Koller in an interview with us early this week. While we're still largely in the dark as to what's hitting PSP this autumn, we do know a deluge of triple-A titles are going to rock consoles including Fallout 3 and Madden NFL 09. I wasn’t exactly goig through withdrawal symptoms over the weekend, while the site servers got moved physically… but damned near that. At least a dozen times I saw something that screamed out to be written up for the blog, and opened an editor only to remember that the blog wasn’t up, and I couldn’t post it anyway.Aside from the idea that they didn’t just build another plant then cut to it, (I know, expensive) the only complaint I have is they changed the database location for the backend of this site without bothering to tell anyone. My first indication we were up was that the site started telling me it coldn’t see the database. (Oh, Great)  I managed to locate it on another server, by doing a little reverse engineering. Cost me about an hour of downtime that wasn’t nessesary.. The time-base issue as I mentioned yesterday was my own bloody fault; I forgot I made the ‘we’re going down’ post sticky, and so when it showed...

Fallout 3 to have 200 endings!
2008-03-25 15:04:00
IGN is reporting that the much anticipated Fallout 3 coming soon for the XBOX 360 will have 200 endings.....well, not 200 completely different ending! One of the biggest and perhaps most impressive pieces of information is that the game has far surpassed the dozen or so endings it was originally set to have. "Being that we are Bethesda, everything gets a bit big, so as of last week we were over 200 endings," said Howard. However he does acknowledge that figures like these do tend to get tossed around a lot for the sake of PR, "that is not an exaggeration, but it deserves some description. Yeah200 endingsthat's a lie of some kind! So originally when we started there were various iterations of the endings, and the ending is kind of cinematic that's dynamic based on the things you've done. Well there's at least 9 maybe 12 [original endings] but we kept adding things to it," Howard said whenever somebody pitched a good idea for an ending to the team, the team would be very excite...

Economy Continues To Take A Beating From Housing Crisis Fallout
2008-03-08 01:22:00
The economy is sinking faster than a mafia hitman wearing cement shoes in water; and, the mortgage/housing crisis is clearly to blame. Wall Street was apparently totally shocked today when the Labor Department reported that 63, 000 nonfarm jobs were lost last month….As Reuters points out, the problem is that Wall Street experts had expected that 25,000 positions would actually be added. So much for experts! Stocks Down This news helped send stocks into a tailspin, closing at their lowest level in 19 months. Reuters points out that this bad news came at the same time that “jumbo” mortgage lender Thornburg Mortgage was unable to meet demands from creditors for upfront cash. Not good. More and more experts are now saying the U.S. is in a recession, official or not. And, the worst is yet to come. There will be still more foreclosures this year…many more. The credit markets are getting tighter despite Fed action. And, consumer confidence continues to go down. I...
FARC Fallout: Assessing Dirty Bomb Claims

Ryan Howard Fallout
2008-02-22 08:55:00
Ryan Howard winning a $10MM salary yesterday was kind of a big deal.  Let's examine this first-year arbitration record. A source of Jayson Stark's thinks the Phillies would've won had they submitted above Miguel Cabrera's $7.4MM.  Seems that even slightly above would've done it, because then Howard losing would've still set a record. Tom Haudricourt talks about how Prince Fielder is now in line for the same $10MM for his '09 salary.  And he doesn't see Scott Boras relenting and doing a multiyear deal.  Stark adds Ryan Braun, Ryan Zimmerman, and Hanley Ramirez as other young stars who will be affected.  Zimmerman, arbitration-eligible after '08, will be renewed for '07. It doesn't sound like the Phillies will sign Howard long-term, in part because there is no precedent.  There is talk of $200MM, something no one expects of the Phils.  On the plus side, Howard is theirs for the 2008-11 seasons.  They may have to keep giving him record...
