Number of families waiting for housing around the nation increasing - Monda
2009-09-21 16:50:00
Philadelphia is reporting more than 47,000 people on its waiting list for public housing. Oakland, California opened its waiting list for five days and received more than 93,000 applications. They have only 10,000 openings. Chicago's own waiting list is more than 40,000 and is closed until further notice. Also like Chicago, two more New York City housing developments will be getting surveillance cameras. Over cries that the recession is finally finished comes this somber prediction, saying that it'll take 10 years to return to what housing prices were in the boom market. My question is this: for the longest time, we called those prices "the bubble," implying that they were fake and unfounded, and crying when "the bubble" burst. So...

The Wealthy Families Feeling the Pangs of Foreclosures
2009-09-08 15:57:00
Few of the most expensive home Manatee County are now feeling the effects of the surging foreclosures. As per the court and tax reports a $2.8 million mansion along with a $1.1 million property in Hawks Harbor coupled with a $975,000 house in the neighborhood of Warwick Gardens along the University Park were faced with foreclosure during the last month. These houses and properties have added to the highly increasing number of pricey homes being foreclosed due to the crisis of mortgage. A Bradenton lawyer representing the borrowers, D. Turner Matthews observed that, “It started at the low- and middle-income levels and is working its way up the income ladder. It’s affecting the higher-income people now.” The ones being drastically effected the most by foreclosures are small business men and other professionals. According to James D. Jackman who is a lawyer in Bradenton and specializes in foreclosure defense and bankruptcy, “They were able to afford ...

Chicago sports families are mixed bag of nuts
2009-07-15 19:17:00
I am taking Rocky Wirtz's age qualifications to be a vibrant contributor to society and the business community to heart. By the late 50s if you are not yet burnt toast, Rocky opined in picking up 22 years by switching from Dale Tallon to Stan Bowman, you are at least showing some unsightly mold around the edges. With my 60th birthday approaching in September, that leaves me with two options under Rocky's strict credo, especially if I forget to mail my bills on time or sign a backup free agent goaltender to a 4-year, $22.5 million contract due to senility. Become a senior adviser or suicide. The end result is the same. You just disappear, never to be heard...

In every dark cloud, there's a silver lining, right? That's certainly what C?elle thinks. "C'elle" is the company that helps women collect stem cells found in menstrual blood for use in future therapies. C'elle allows women to collect those stem cells in a non-invasive, non-threatening, way, right at home, using their own system. Once collected, the stem cells are cryo-preserved for use in future therapies that can help fight heart disease, diabetes, and stroke -- and even be used in sports medicine and anti-aging regimes. The C'ell process is done right in the home and is simple to do, and has been around since 1992, helping 175,000 families. You can learn a lot more about C'elle on their "About Page," but the basics are that C'ell is trying to turn that dark cloud of monthly menstruation into a silver lining of cures for debilitating diseases -- so there'll be fewer dark clouds in the future. So maybe skip right to the Order Now Page, and give the gift of curing and he...
New Additions to the Families
2009-04-01 15:30:00
Intalio is days away from closing an acquisition that will be quite a game changer. While we were working on this deal, the quarter shaped up pretty well from a bookings standpoint, and we decided to raise our target by 15% two months into it. Today, I am pleased to report that we not only made our original target, but we also exceeded our revised target by another 3%. Not bad in such challenging economic times? In the meantime, another family got a new addition yesterday: Tao Aidan Chang Ghalimi made his way out to the world, just in time to close this quarter in style. Exciting times?

Division of Domestic Work in the UK Families
2009-02-22 09:00:00
As to the division of responsibilities at home, the survey of Devine (Devine 2004) has shown for both parents who work full-time, the couple is more likely to share domestic work but if the woman works part-time, she also does the bulk of the domestic work. Most wives consider their divisions of household labor to ...
UK married families taxed more
2009-02-15 22:04:00
The Christian Institute says.Married families where one parent stays at home are under a heavier tax burden in the UK than in other countries, new research shows. The study into marriage tax follows separate research estimating that the fall-out from family breakdown is costing the British economy £37 billion annually.Launched in time for National Marriage Week, the new figures will pile pressure on politicians to reform the system to support couples who get married, rather than penalising them.Researchers at the think-tank Christian Action, Research and Education (CARE) compared the UK?s tax system with that of other developed countries. They say that while other countries find some way of recognising marriage in the tax system, Britain is failing to adjust the amount of tax paid by earners with dependent spouses.A married UK family with one earner and two children pays 20.6 per cent in tax if they are on an average wage. This is almost double the burden on families overseas. In Ameri...

Bloggers Unite to Reconnect Families

Family dinner; it's just another night at the table, isn't it? My own family gathers each night to eat together and discuss our day. Sometimes it all goes rather smoothly and other times we have kids leaving the table in tears. As frustrating as that can be, I'd miss it terribly if it were taken from me.For tens of millions of people across the globe, family dinner is a thing of the past and a thin thread clung to in the hopes that it will again happen some day. Those people are refugees. What exactly is a refugee? A refugee is a person that flees to a foreign country to escape danger or persecution. Many people find themselves not only separated from their country, their home and their familiar surroundings, but also from their families. Many families flee together only to lose contact with one another and have nowhere to call home. Imagine yourself in this situation. What would you do? Where would you turn? Even if you found a place of refuge, how would you find your family?Blog...

Large Families are a Great Witness to the World
2008-10-15 02:10:00
Children are a blessing.  Nuff said.  However, I want to say more. I think of the questions my wife and I get about our relatively small family of 6.  "Are you done yet?" MacBooks, Kittens and Families
2008-09-07 04:00:00
On Thursday morning, I got up early and looked out on my deck, through sleepy eyes, and without coffee, much to my surprise I saw my daughters MacBook on the deck. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! It was covered with morning dew. I quickly ran to Twitter to ask for help. I dried it off, sprayed compressed gas on it and waited. First I was told to dump it in a bowl of white rice and let the moisture out of it. Now, who has a bowl of white rice that big? Besides all we eat is brown rice. Poppy Dinsey, @PoppyD jumped in and said to turn it into a V, take the battery out, and DO NOT TURN it on. She had spilled a glass of water on hers and did this and she was getting ready to post on it. So I did. Then I went down to "this" daughters bedroom and pulled back the covers to "quietly tell her, what she had done". NOT !  More like: "ALLYSSA, YOU LEFT YOUR MACBOOK ON THE DECK AND IT IS COVERED IN DEW !!!!" When much to my surprise, there was this little gray kitt...

Families and Businesses Not Protected Because Insurance Viewed As Expense
2008-06-05 22:26:00
Families and Businesses Not Protected Because Insurance Viewed As Expense, Not Asset, Says Expert Clay Mosley. The majority of Americans are underinsured when it comes to their insurance plan. The reason is because most people view insurance as an expense instead of an asset. If people viewed their insurance portfolio as an asset and identify the value of possessing insurance, they could easily have a sufficient and efficient portfolio. The majority of the U.S. population is unaware that their families are at risk every single day because they do not have a proper risk management portfolio. Most people view insurance as an expense, and, therefore, cause them to purchase the least expensive product and the least amount of protection, if any. Clay Mosley, an expert in the insurance and financial services industry, says that if Americans viewed their insurance as an asset and manage it just like an investment portfolio, they would have a sufficient insurance plan. It astounds him that ...
