Movie Review: Families Of Costa Rica
2008-09-08 18:28:00 I like to learn about the lives of other people, particularly those who live in other places than I do. Whatever customs they have, what they eat, how they dress, what kinds of books they read, what their music sounds like, all of those things help to contribute to my understanding of what their lives ...
MacBooks, Kittens and Families
2008-09-07 04:00:00 On Thursday morning, I got up early and looked out on my deck, through sleepy eyes, and without coffee, much to my surprise I saw my daughters MacBook on the deck. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! It was covered with morning dew. I quickly ran to Twitter to ask for help. I dried it off, sprayed compressed gas on it and waited. First I was told to dump it in a bowl of white rice and let the moisture out of it. Now, who has a bowl of white rice that big? Besides all we eat is brown rice. Poppy Dinsey, @PoppyD jumped in and said to turn it into a V, take the battery out, and DO NOT TURN it on. She had spilled a glass of water on hers and did this and she was getting ready to post on it. So I did. Then I went down to "this" daughters bedroom and pulled back the covers to "quietly tell her, what she had done". NOT ! More like: "ALLYSSA, YOU LEFT YOUR MACBOOK ON THE DECK AND IT IS COVERED IN DEW !!!!" When much to my surprise, there was this little gray kitt...

Families and Businesses Not Protected Because Insurance Viewed As Expense
2008-06-05 22:26:00 Families and Businesses Not Protected Because Insurance Viewed As Expense, Not Asset, Says Expert Clay Mosley. The majority of Americans are underinsured when it comes to their insurance plan. The reason is because most people view insurance as an expense instead of an asset. If people viewed their insurance portfolio as an asset and identify the value of possessing insurance, they could easily have a sufficient and efficient portfolio. The majority of the U.S. population is unaware that their families are at risk every single day because they do not have a proper risk management portfolio. Most people view insurance as an expense, and, therefore, cause them to purchase the least expensive product and the least amount of protection, if any. Clay Mosley, an expert in the insurance and financial services industry, says that if Americans viewed their insurance as an asset and manage it just like an investment portfolio, they would have a sufficient insurance plan. It astounds him that ...

Lower-income Singapore families got more in Growth Dividends
2008-05-28 01:04:00 Lower-income Singapore families got more in Growth Dividends LOWER-INCOME households received the lion’s share of the $407 million in Growth Dividends paid out last month, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said in a written reply yesterday. He was responding to a question from Nominated MP Siew Kum Hong, who wanted a breakdown of how much families with different incomes had received in dividends. Mr Tharman said that the wealthier a family, the smaller the amount of dividends its members received. For example, family members in households whose incomes placed them in the 11th to 20th percentile received an average of $140 in Growth Dividends. By contrast, a family member in the top 10 per cent of households by income received an average of $80 in dividends. Mr Tharman noted that, besides the dividends, households would get a slew of other benefits this year, such as this year’s instalment of goods and services tax credits, utility rebates and Medisave top-ups...

FHASecure to help even more families
2008-05-18 21:20:00 The Bush Administration announced additional mortgage assistance for subprime borrowers who are at risk of foreclosure. The plan, which is designed to help address the adverse economic conditions affecting many communities across America, will help break the cycle of house price depreciation that is being caused by an increasing number of foreclosures and the overall contraction in the credit market. Under the new plan, HUD's Federal Housing Administration (FHA) would have the added flexibility to insure more mortgages, including those for borrowers who were late on a few payments and/or received a voluntary mortgage principal write-down from their lender. This FHASecure expansion will help more homeowners who are struggling to keep up with mortgage payments on their high-cost subprime loans. With this expansion of FHASecure, the Administration expects about 500,000 families to refinance into prime-rate FHA-insured mortgages in total by the end of this year. "Our p...

Caution! Little Boys (and big boys) at Play within Military Families
2008-05-13 15:11:00 I grew up in a family of boys--my only sister started with 4 brothers and added 3 more after a family blending! We now have five grandsons and they are active guys just like my siblings during my much younger years and will challenge their parents and guardian angels much like we did!We lived in the country with lots of work to do but always found the time to do some fun things. We built a tree fort in a 300 year old oak with huge branches and a first step that could maim you if you missed the ladder. We had "bb gun fights" with no shooting above the waist--must have thought everyone was a pretty darn good shot! We tore an old Triumph car apart and left a chassis to drive through the fields and woods with total abandon. We found a tree that had fallen into a Y of another tree and created a perfect teeter totter that when raised was at least 30 feet off the ground. One brother still clearly remembers when we held one end down until he climbed out and then let go! His bounce on t...

Attorneys for the boys will attempt to show the boys were happy, healthy and developing normally. But, after being exposed to vaccines with thimerosal, they began to regress and show symptoms of autism.Thimerosal has been removed in recent years from standard childhood vaccines, except the flu shot. In 2004, a committee with the Institute of Medicine concluded there was no credible evidence that vaccines containing thimerosal caused autism.Overall, nearly 4,900 families hav...

Wealthy Families Flee New York For African Dreams!
2008-05-05 19:18:00 I don't know about my fellow apartment hunters, but I can't believe how many wealthy men want to rent me their apartments while they and their family move to Africa (presumably for work). Twice today I've heard the plights of two men, Mavrick Mitchel and Ben Grants, two self-professed "men of God" who just want reasonably clean people to move into their furnished and gorgeous apartments scatter throughout the NYC metro area. Unfortunately, like so many posts out their in Craigslist's world, Mavrick and Ben don't really exist. No, they're part of a scheme that lures people into sending rent checks to apartment owners they'll never get to meet in person. Often, the rent is requested before they send you keys to your brand new luxurious pad. Below is a copy of the emails I received from the two gentlemen as well as their friend Phillips Smart. Yes that's right. "Phillip" with an "s". "Greetings to you!!!Thanks for the email. My name is "fake scammer name",I own the 1 bedroom ap... |
