She would play Celie, the role originated by Tony Award-winner LaChanze and now played by Jeannette Bayardelle. A four-time Grammy Award-nominee, Barrino won the third season of "American Idol." She is believed to have been a frontrunner for the role of Effie in the Dreamgirls film (the part ultimately went to fellow "American Idol" star Jennifer Hudson"). I loved the fact that she toned the screaming and relied on her actual voice to sell the songs. Her voice is beautiful. I feel that she believes in what she is singing and this is felt throughout the album. I liked this album much better then her first album. I really hope this album does well on the charts but even if it doesn't...oh well...her album was still good. And for those that are judging this album on her first single...you need to listen to the whole album and then judge.
