I checked my big-money team yesterday somewhat hastily. I saw that I had seven runs, four home runs, and eight RBIs, so it looked like a pretty good day offense-wise. Then I notice this morning that I had lost several points in batting average. What could have happened?My team went 6-for-49 yesterday for a robust batting average of .122. Now, four home runs in six hits is a nice ratio, but holy crap. I can't remember the last time I've seen a team have RBI and run totals that were each in excess of the total hits. Basically, it's the equivalent of being able to do a standing back flip, yet have this happen to you:

It seems that MLB, after years of granting fairly affordable licenses to purveyors of fantasy products, finally decided to exert more control over the publicly available statistics generated by its players during games. A lawsuit, of course, commenced. Surprising the entire sports industry, MLB lost at the trial and appellate level.Well, MLB decided to appeal and were denied an "en banc" hearing (of all appellate justices) a few months ago. The only avenue left was the U.S. Supreme Court. This morning, the Supreme Court decided not to hear the case. Ding dong, the witch is dead. Essentially, 10 bloggers will select a pitcher and hitter every week based on their expectations for how they will perform on Sunday. Last week, I took the opportunity to vent about my poor ol' fantasy teams.  Given that behavior's unproductivenss, this week I will turn a cold, objective eye upon my squads' warts and try to rationally identify the problem or potential problem.  I have also included the number of points I trail the 1st place team. Yahoo! Public League, 8th of 12, -34.5 points: I am weak in HR/RBI.  Losing Jimmy Rollins was not as bad as one would think because I have Miguel Tejada to fill-in, but Delmon Young's zero HRs has hurt more after Alfonso Soriano spent half of April on the D.L. Fake Teams H2H, 5-5 for the week, 26-21-3 and 4th overall, -3.5: This league starts five starting pitchers.  With Rich Hill sent to the minors and Wandy Rodriguez on the D.L., my five are Brandon Webb, Jonathan Sanchez, Nick Blackburn, Matt Garza and Andy Sonnanstine - quite possibility in best-to-worst order. What does a bad April look like? Does it necessarily have to include a spot in last place? Does it have to include a roster full of sleepers who never woke-up? It could, but I think a bad fantasy April consists of great players playing awfully thanks to a combination of unforeseen ineffectiveness topped by injury in a 10-team mixed format. And that is exactly what won Fake Team's Worst Fantasy Season So Far Contest. Look at what picking first in a 10-team mixed league gets you? This was da' bomb post-draft. Then Curtis Granderson breaks his hand. Yovanni Gallardo may have already been on the D.L., but it was for a minor knee surgery, and he made it back right on time - only to tear his ACL and be lost for the year. With Troy Tulowitzki out for two months and Alex Rodriguez on the D.L. to end the month, this team would be struggling with significant downgrades at SS and 3B anyhow.
