2012-01-06 16:00:00 2012 Fantasy Outlook: Josh Beckett For me, Beckett is indeed very hard to evaluate. BaseballHQ has him as a $19 SP, Rotowire has his value at $17. What value to you place on Beckett this year? Coming off an injury riddled and largely disappointing 2010 campaign, Josh Beckett responded with a great 2011 season. He provided an immense amount of value for owners, posting near top-10 numbers among starting pitchers despite going as late as the 17th or 18th round of drafts. Looking ahead to the 2012 season, Beckett is a tough player to project for fantasy purposes MLB Rumors - MLB Trade Rumors, Free Agency Rumors and More - Rumor Central - ESPN Rosental tweeted Tuesday that many in the industry believe Boras wants an opt-out clause in Fielder's contract, perhaps like the one utilized by Yankees lefty CC Sabathia this offseason. Fantasy Baseball: Looking Back At My Pre-Season 3B Rankings

(AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast) Browse more photos » This article is the third in a series of articles where I am looking back at my pre-season rankings. Today, I look back at my third base rankings. Gotta tell you, this is a learning experience, as ranking hitters is not easy. I ranked Alex Rodriguez as the top third baseman and he certainly was not the same hitter he was in the past as he "only" went 30-125-74-.270-.341-.506. The RBIs were nice, but many fantasy owners expected more than 30 HRs in 2010. Another third baseman I was wrong about was Mark Reynolds. I bought into his huge 2009 season where he went 44-102-98-24-.260-.349-.543. He responded by hitting 32 HRs, not bad right? He drove in 85...

Fantasy Baseball Draft Day: The Greatest Day Ever
2010-03-19 21:16:00 Everyone in the league looks EXACTLY like this.Sunday is my favorite day of the year. It's my fantasy baseball draft. This is our 8th year (of which I've won 1.5 times...I tied once) and no matter how long you've done it, it's still exciting. These players are going to become almost a part of your family for the next six months. It's a big deal. Last year I Skyped in from London to do the draft. There are few things I'd miss it for.We do an AL-Only league, which is really the only way to go if you actually care about baseball (I suppose NL-Only is fine too). I love how in-depth you have to go with your knowledge, it's to...

Sean's 2009 Fantasy Baseball Teams
2009-04-06 15:13:00 If you're ever going to get a flat tire, I highly recommend that it happens on I-66 Eastbound between Courthouse and Rosslyn on a late Sunday afternoon when the weather is perfect and you can maneuver your car into the shoulder on an exit ramp. Thanks to the Virginia State officer and AAA guy who were both extremely nice and arrived quickly. I wish I could write something funny here, but my tire is being fixed as I type this, and there's not much else to the story.Meanwhile, I participated in my second of two National League-only fantasy baseball league drafts this weekend and figured that I would share my results. I know that no one cares about other people's fantasy teams, so that's why I included the flat tire story above. Anyway, these are both keeper leagues which is why I have Hanley Ramirez at $19.Here is my roster in the league I really, really care about (this is the 19th year of the league and my 18th season in it; I have never finished in 1st):Bengie Molina C SF $10 ...

An interesting June 3rd for me in terms of fantasy baseball
2008-06-04 14:54:00 I checked my big-money team yesterday somewhat hastily. I saw that I had seven runs, four home runs, and eight RBIs, so it looked like a pretty good day offense-wise. Then I notice this morning that I had lost several points in batting average. What could have happened? My team went 6-for-49 yesterday for a robust batting average of .122. Now, four home runs in six hits is a nice ratio, but holy crap. I can't remember the last time I've seen a team have RBI and run totals that were each in excess of the total hits. Basically, it's the equivalent of being able to do a standing back flip, yet have this happen to you:

The most important fantasy baseball news ever
2008-06-03 19:50:00 In what seems like several hundred Oliver Perez implosions ago, I wrote about the legal hurdles facing baseball. It seems that MLB, after years of granting fairly affordable licenses to purveyors of fantasy products, finally decided to exert more control over the publicly available statistics generated by its players during games. A lawsuit, of course, commenced. Surprising the entire sports industry, MLB lost at the trial and appellate level.Well, MLB decided to appeal and were denied an "en banc" hearing (of all appellate justices) a few months ago. The only avenue left was the U.S. Supreme Court. This morning, the Supreme Court decided not to hear the case. Ding dong, the witch is dead. This is a disastrous ruling for every major professional sports franchise. We are talking tens of billions of dollars over the next few decades. Now, instead of being able to dictate terms, prices, and ultimately force us to accept fewer choices that cost more, professional sports has lost any sem...
