I?m taking a break for a few days from writing on this blog, but I have an extremely important reason: fantasy football. I have a lot of research to do before my multiple league drafts. By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on who to take with the #5 pick in a 12-team league; #7 pick in a 10-team league; or #11 pick in a 16-team league, or has any sleepers, please feel free to leave them in the comments. Thanks!

Why Should Fantasy Football Owners Watch The NFL Draft?
2008-04-05 22:23:00
While fantasy football owners steadfastly wait in anticipation for the beginning of the 2008 season, it’s imperative to remember that one must accrue the necessary building blocks and contributing factors in order to assemble a potent and versatile team capable of emerging victorious in all fantasy league formats. It’s essential to differentiate your team from the competitors by channeling a significant amount of energy, focus and determination into searching for what players in this year’s NFL draft have the ability to add value and provide meaning to one’s team. Still, maintain a vested interest in the excitement and thrill of the two-day spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.As prospective players wait with overwhelming angst and nervousness, and high level executives remain engrossed in the complexities of the draft room, fantasy players are equipped with a desire to accelerate their overall understanding of the rookie landscape, and transform into stronger, more creative...

Congrats: Buc 'Em Fantasy Football League Champion......

Brought to you by: CBS Sportsline And just like that its all over! The First Annual Buc 'Em Fantasy Football League has come to a conclusion. The Champion is none other than "awburn7" .... Not the most catchy Fantasy Team name is it? The final results are all that matters though. Congratulations Adam, you b#$%@&^! You are the Champ for '08!! You definitely deserve it. Adam started the season (0-3) and then NEVER looked back. Looking at his roster, he clearly won with a team of bandits. Not bad, Not bad. Rookie RB Adrian Peterson was a work horse this season and QB Drew Brees (although his team sucked) gave a pretty consistent performance throughout the year. Okay let me stop, I know your salivating at the thought of your Prizes, heh. The good folks at WallDaddy.com have supplied you with not one, but TWO Tampa Bay Bucs Posters. Week Sixteen Fantasy Football and Point Spread Questions And Expected Score
2007-12-23 15:51:00
For those looking for which games are thought to have the best chances for fantasy points, look at the higher O/U totals. Amongst these are the Browns/Bengals game which has the Browns in Cincy as road favorites. It is Week Sixteen, and the Browns as road favorites in an intradivsion game still shocks me. The Chiefs and Lions are expected to score quite a few points relative to the general malaise that surrounds each team's 2007 season. The Saints and Eagles match-up includes the underdog expected to score the most points this week. When Jason David is a starting cornerback on the favored team, can this be a surprise? The Chargers/Broncos and Colts/Texans are two more games expected to be on the higher-scoring side. I'm not compeltely sold on the Chargers as the second-highest expected score of the week behind the Patriots. While LaDanian Tomlinson should get his 100+, I'm not so sure Philip Rivers and his no-name receivers will have a ton of success. One line that I find interes...
Week Sixteen Fantasy Football Super Bowl: Stephania Bell's Injury Updates
2007-12-23 13:51:00
With so few fantasy football teams still playing, those that are have to make the toughest Start/Sit decisions of the season.  To help, here are Stephania Bell's injury opinions on several players. RB Ron Dayne:  Should play just as he did last week, but he is sharing carries with former Irishman Darius Walker.  Be careful. QB Matt Schaub:  May be #3 QB, but are you really still playing with Schaub as a possible start? WR Marques Colston:  Awoke Friday morning with back pain after sleeping weird and missed practice on Friday.  This injury has the potential for screwing fantasy teams as he is a lock start for most teams. QB Tony Romo:  Ms. Bell has been saying he is good to go but be wary.  He could re-injure the thumb.  "Dallas is highly motivated to win this game and Romo likely wants to undo the memories of his Week 15 performance. If he starts as expected, expect him to play well."  For those whose teams survived the suck-itude ...
The NFL Picks Column - Week 16
2007-12-22 03:35:00
It's been brought to my attention that there are 1001 NFL picks columns posted on the web every week. So why should you read mine? I?ve come up with a few reasons.1) My picture ? Located on the top, right side of this column is my picture (if you're reading this on Bleacher Report...otherwise, just pretend). Let?s face it, I?m a sexy man. Worth the price of admission right there.2) I?m right more than everyone else ? Sure, I went 6-9 last week, but if the teams played the way they were supposed to I?d have gone 15-0.3) The Boston Globe?s Dan Shaughnessy once called me a jealous sycophant. I?m not sure what that means, but I?m pretty sure it?s a compliment. Right? In all seriousness, I know there are a ton of the other really good NFL Picks columns out there (a great example is Liver?s Picks, which are extremely entertaining), and I appreciate you taking the time to read mine. Now, on with the NFL Picks Column, Holiday edition: Click here for the picks.
Postseason Fantasy Football
2007-12-19 18:15:00
Hopefully your fantasy league already has something set up, but if not it's time to start thinking about postseason fantasy football.  Just because the NFL season has ended it doesn't mean you need to lose your fantasy football fix.  The NFL postseason is a great time to get in some more smack-talking fantasy competition. There are several different ways to set up a postseason fantasy league depending on the way your league is set up and the options your commissioner service allows.   I play in a league where we keep all our season rosters during the playoffs, with a giant waiver wire rush before the playoffs to drop guys like Willis McGahee in order to pick up guys like Heath Evans.  We assign a bit of prize money from the pot to the winner of the league "Pro Bowl" (as we call it) and have a lot of fun tracking it through the playoffs.   Another way to do it is to clear all the rosters and have a new draft from a pool of the NFL Playoff teams.  This ...

Buffalo Rumblings Fantasy Football League Update
2007-12-18 19:16:00
This poster awaits the winner (WallDaddy.com) A week ago today, we announced that the winner (and loser) of the official Buffalo Rumblings fantasy football league would be awarded fabulous prizes for their efforts. I then went on to make predictions as to who exactly would be receiving said honors. The results from the weekend's semi-final contests are in. Here's a recap: (4) The Illegit McGahees (8-6): 110.6 (1) CircleTheWagons (11-3): 76.8 - I'm proud to say that I predicted that the league's top dog would go down in this contest. Despite getting just 3.5 points from Tom Brady, the victors (headed up by krukow) got stalwart efforts from Marques Colston, Aaron Stecker and the Tampa Bay defense (70.5 points from those three sources alone) in an easy victory. CircleTheWagons ends the season 11-4, and despite a strong regular season, will only be playing for third place this weekend. The RB combination of Brian Westbrook and Frank Gore played well, but jri111 didn...
Fantasy Football: Gates vs. Scheffler? [EdMcGon]
2007-12-18 16:51:00
As I was getting ready for the first round playoff game in my fantasy football league last Thursday, I was reviewing the last minute news when I saw there was a strong possibility that Antonio Gates, my tight end, would not be playing (he has a minor back injury).I was faced with the dilemna of taking a chance that Gates would play, or take a chance on my backup tight end, Tony Scheffler of the Broncos. Even though Scheffler is only a backup for the Broncos, he has had a few solid games this year, his best game coming against the Bears when he had 5 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.Deciding it would be better to take a chance on Scheffler and get SOME points, rather than the potential goose egg I was looking at from Gates, I played Scheffler. I made the right choice, since he got 7 catches for 100 yards and one beautiful touchdown. Gates did play, but only got one catch for 8 yards.(I should state that I would have won the game regardless of who I started at tight end, as I won ...
Week Fifteen Fantasy Football and Point Spread Questions and Expected Score
2007-12-16 17:31:00
This week's "Football and Point Spreads Questions" is being combined with the "Expected Scores" article due to the constraints of time and weather. The Northeastern and Eastern seaboard are going to deal with 25+ MPH winds and/or various forms of precipitation. With fantasy studs like Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow, and Ben Roethlisberger involved in those games, some fantasy teams may feel screwed at the most important time of the year. I know I am hoping the team I play in the play-offs this week experiences it. He has ridden Tom Brady, Wes Welker and the Patriots Defense to the highest points total of the season. One bad week of stats coming in the fantasy play-offs is what I expect every year. I just hope to be on the postive end of that kind of development. Some notable lines questions include the Bears and Vikings. This opened with the Vikings as seven-point favorites and has moved to a ten-point spread. The Vikings have been on fire th...
Week Fifteen Fantasy Football Play-Offs: Stephania Bell's Injury Updates
2007-12-16 14:58:00
Stephania Bell, ESPN's fantasy sports injury expert has posted her assessmnet of some players and their chances of playing this weekend who are not already listed as "Out" for Sunday.  Willis McGahee:  Participated fully in practice Thursday and Friday.  Good to go against the weak Miami defense  Kenton Keith:  Also participated fully in practice Thursday and Friday.  While no one should be starting him, he could steal some thunder from Joseph Addai.  Ben Roethlisberger:  This one scares me.  He was shut down this week with a sore throwing shoulder.  Ms.  Bell writes he returned to practice on Friday but did not look good.  From the Florida Times-Union, Big Ben "...appeared to favor the right shoulder and throw with a semi-sidearm motion."  He will be a GTD but no one knows how his arm will hold-up.  A tough Jacksonville defense, rain, snow and 25 MPH winds with gusts to 50 on Sunday make this a scary start w...
Week Fifteen Fantasy Football WRs - KC Joyner's Start/Sit
2007-12-16 13:42:00
Last week, one of my play-off team's was eliminated thanks to the futile efforts of RB Adrian Peterson and TE Kellen Winslow and the great ones of QB Matt Hasselback and RB LaDanian Tomlinson. Fortunately, my team "Orlovsky's O" won its final game to finish the regular season at 10-4. Unfortunately, my play-off match-up in this PPR league is against the team with Tom Brady, Wes Welker and the Patriots Defense. Fortunately, it is supposed to be inclement and windy in New England on Sunday. My options at WR seem good. Let's hope the best advantages play out unlike last week's Terrell Owens' grade. He had the worst actual performance but had the best predicted match-up grade. At this time of year, being wrong means the end of the season. In the midst of the play-offs, here is a list of KC Joyner's Start/Sit/Sleeper WRs. Click through to read his rationale. Will you gamble your play-off chances on Chris Chambers? Start 1. Chris Chambers 2. Derrick Mason 3. Donald Driver 4. Steve S...

A few quick site notes before we get into today?s blog. I an effort to re-establish my dominance over the Internet Sports Scene, I?ll be pimping my columns to as many outlets as possible over the next few months. There will still be exclusive Boston Sports Rants material posted here (like this soon-to-be-classic), but we?re going to be trying to drive traffic here by getting published in other places. Our primary partner in this endeavor is going to be Bleacher Report. I?ll be posting at least 2 or 3 of my blogs there a week, depending on the content. I did not do much better than I did last week. Here are the picks from week 14: Tony Homo- A very good game for this guy. He passed for 302 yards, 2 TDs, and no INTs. Brian Westbrook- Westbrook come up big again with 20 carries for 116 yards. He also had 5 receptions for 38 ...
Rumblings Fantasy Football: Let the Playoffs Begin!
2007-12-11 23:45:00
Prizes complements of WallDaddy.com Usually, I love this time of year - not because the Bills are in the playoff hunt; other than the past couple of years, that's been rare in these parts. No, I've loved this time of year because usually at this point I'm analyzing brackets and preparing for fantasy football glory. Not so this year. In the Buffalo Rumblings fantasy football league, yours truly finished a dismal 4-10 and placed ninth out of 10 teams. That's right - I'm the 49ers. While I kick myself for taking Marc Bulger over Tony Romo and ponder a season lost, however, the playoffs will take place - and the winner of the bracket will be taking home some cool prizes. The winner of the Buffalo Rumblings fantasy football league will get two prizes: first of all, they'll be getting a t-shirt donning this site's logo with the tagline "I'm Smarter than You - and I Won Rumblings FF". (Or a tagline of the winner's choice.) The winner will also ...

(#1) paloffs def. (#8) 70 Chip 128.40 to 107.57 No suprise here, other than 70 chip making this competitive... must have been a trap game?  paloffs Tom Brady has been dominant all season, which leaves us with the question: why does Belichick hate the HHFL? (#7) Half Man Half Beasts def. (#2) SeanTaylorAteBabies 133.15 to 115.45 Interestingly, my 115.45 would have been enough points to beat Half Man Half Beasts weeks one through thirteen.  None of that matters now, as this is week fourteen, and HMHB's band of rag-tag misfits are playing for keeps.  (Jesus, did I really lose to a bunch of second- and third-stringers?) I Hate Fantasy Football
2007-12-11 02:32:00
Remember the time that I mentioned that I may need to quit fantasy sports? Apparently, I am a glutton for punishment. Of my four fantasy football leagues, I'm now out of the two leagues that I don't care much about (i.e. no $), and I'm not going to make the playoffs in the league where I'm the Commissioner. At least in the latter league, I got destroyed this week, meaning that I won?t have to second guess my decisions of starting Shaun Alexander over Fred Taylor and having Trent Edwards in my line-up only to elect to pick up and start Vince Young instead. In my monster 16-team league, in which I won the scoring title and earned the #1 seed, I have the high score so far this week with 135 points. However, my opponent, the #8 seed with a 6-7 record losing 5 straight weeks to end the regular season has 131 points courtesy of Kurt Warner, Antonio Gates, Fred Taylor and Brandon Marshall having the game of the life. Therefore, I am 40 Jerious Norwood rushing yards from being elimi...
Week Fourteen Fantasy Football Play-offs and Point Spreads Questions
2007-12-09 17:46:00
The overriding question this week is whether or not the injury fill-ins and 2007 breakout players of 2007 produce at the most critical junstion of the fantasy football season - the play-offs!  There will inevitably be luky and unlucky breaks that end seasons.  Who it will be is yet to be told. One of the biggest things I am watching for the fantasy play-offs is the performances of Giants' QB Eli Manning versus that of Falcons' QB Chris Redman.  In one league's play-offs, the rosters had to be set prior to Thursday's game.  The pool of QBs to select from was limited, and I stuck with Eli despite desparately wanting to sit him.  However, I would have grabbed Chris Redman to start if I had another day to set my line-up.  Here's to hoping that does not come back to haunt me. My apologies for any typos.  I'm hitting 12 o'clock mass.  It can't hurt can it? Carolina at Jacksonville: Can the Jaguars continue their six-game streak of scoring ...

Week Fourteen Fantasy Football Play-Offs WR Decisions - Torry Holt And RB F
2007-12-08 03:49:00
With the start of the fantasy football play-offs in most leagues, I have expanded the list of WRs to include all of those from the three teams I have playing this weekend. The first five are the ones from "Orlovsky's O", whose league doesn't begin its play-offs until Week Fifteen and just four teams out of twelve make the play-offs. If I win, I'm in as I currently reside at the top of the division on the strength of the second-most points scored in the league. St Louis Rams' WR Torry Holt appears to have a very favorable match-up this week, but I am concerned. Recent news has his QB, Marc Bulger, feeling a little woozy following last week's concussion. ESPN's fantasy injury expert Stephania Bell stated, as emphatically as she could, on XM Radio's "Rotowire Fantasy Sports Hour With Chris Liss" that this will lead to Bulger missing this weekend's game. I am considering sitting Holt and playing one of three RBs at the Flex - Ron Dayne, Jerious Norwood or Fred Jackson. Jackson b...
A small fantasy football update
2007-12-02 08:03:00
In my main fantasy league I am currently the sixth highest ranked team out of the twelve participants in the league. Four teams have a better record than me and one person with the same record as me beat me, making him rank ahead of me as well. Six teams make the playoffs so if the season were over I would have gotten in. I win this week and I have a good chance of moving up in the rankings. I'm really pumped for the games tomorrow because fantasy is almost over so I have to cherish every second. Once the fantasy season is over, there's going to be about 3 extra hours of incredible boredom in my life everyday.
Week Thirteen Fantasy Football WRs - Reggie Brown
2007-12-02 01:41:00
With Week 13 typically being the last regular season week for fantasy football, it can be either the most important one or least important one. For my Orlovsky's O team, it is most important as it matches-up with against the team it is tied with for the division lead in the three-division league where those three division winners, plus one wild card, makes the play-offs. In a twist of good fortune, both teams had their QBs facing-off in the NFL Network's Thursday night game, and I had the team with Tony Romo. While I currently enjoy a 36-8 lead going into Sunday, I am still concerned with winning and maximizing my points total as it is the tie-breaker. Taking a look at my options at WR, Torry Holt and Andre Johnson appear to be the best options according the KC Joyner's grading system. However, it is a PPR league, and he notes that Brown would be good in this format as he and AJ Feeley appear to have a better connection than Brown did with Donovan McNabb. While my choices appear ...

Week Twelve Fantasy Football WRs - KC Joyner's Start/Sit
2007-11-24 18:32:00
Thanks to having scored the most points overall through the first twelve weeks of the fantasy footbal season, my team, "Orlovsky's O", took over first place in the three-division league. In a twist, this league has no bye week play-off teams so there are still three weeks left before the regular season ends. Most leagues have just two remaining before the play-offs start along with a first round of play-offs in Week 14 where the top two teams have byes. Over on ESPN.com, KC Joyner provides a list of Receiver match-ups. Along with those listed for my teams, one can get a better list of potentially good starts and good sits at wide receiver. I was big on Witten after watching the Cowboys go to their TE time and time again in preaseason. Even though San Diego is struggling, Gates is easily the best TE in the game.DefensePatriot...

The Early Game/Fantasy Football Brag-Fest Thread!
2007-11-18 15:32:00
With the Bills playing on Sunday Night, we've got nearly 11 hours to kill before kickoff. That's 11 hours of other football going on, whether it's NFL action or your fantasy football team kicking tail. So this is the spot to talk about it. Brag if your team is doing well. Lament if Drew Brees is screwing you over yet again. I'll leave that up to you guys; I, personally, am going to kick back and enjoy the Giants/Lions and Ravens/Browns contests before heading up to The Ralph. Should be some interesting games, and it's a big week for two of my fantasy teams. Have at it!
Week Eleven Fantasy Football WRs - Andre Johnson
2007-11-18 02:22:00
With just three weeks to go, my team, Orlovsky's O, is tied with three other teams at 6-4. I am third amongst this four-way tie in total points scored. Unfortuantely, this 12-team league has three divisions, and the teams who win the division make the play-offs with just one wild card. We three highest scoring teams are all battling for that wildcard! With such a close race in the tie-breaker category (points scored) and the demise of the bye week season, fantasy football is getting down to the nitty gritty. This week I have the choice of all my WRs. The most important one is Houston Texan Andre Johnson. KC Joyner did not grade him this week, so I took the liberty of assuming he comes back at full strength and plugged his grade from Week Two into the calculations. Going up against one of the worst starting DBs, Jason David of New Orleans, has Johnson scoring the best Adv grade. I am leaning towards starting him and Torry Holt. (Full Strength at last!) The question is whether I use ...
5 Lessons Fantasy Football Has Taught Me About Investing
2007-11-15 08:34:00
I've played Fantasy Football and I've invested in stocks and let me tell you, there's a similarity between the two. Stocks, like football players, have a value and that value rises and falls over time. Here are five lessons that I've learned from "investing" in players on my fantasy team and how I apply those strategies towards the market.Stay on top of your portfolio and adjust if needed - What's one thing that you absolutely must do every week in Fantasy Football if you want to have a chance? It's check and adjust your lineup before the games. Injuries and bye weeks are the two biggest gotchas that can kill you if you don't stay on top of them. Every week I plan at least two reviews of my team minimum to make sure who's able to play and who's not. Once early in the week, for bye teams and injuries (to see if I need to pick someone up), and another later in the week for game time decisions. Letting your team run without tracking its performance is only going to result in l...
Fantasy Football Resurgence
2007-11-12 22:20:00
If everything goes as I think it will tonight, I will end up as the fifth ranked team in the Susquehanna Football League. While this may not seem like a big deal to some of you (or most of you,) it's a really big deal to me. It's kind of sad, actually it's really sad, but fantasy football is one of the biggest things in my life. Where did I go wrong?Anyways, now that I am ranked 5-5, I enter into a tie with other teams with only 4 teams having better records than 5-5, and one of them by only 1/2 of a game. I beat all of the other 5-5 teams except two, so I end up ranked ahead of them thanks to that tiebreaker. That places me in a decent enough sixth place in the SFL, just high enough to make it into the playoffs in the bottom. However, I am on a complete tear the past 4 weeks after a disappointed start to the season, dominating my last four games, with no end in sight.Four weeks remain before the start of the fantasy playoffs and if my winning streak continues I even have t...
