Poll: 71 percent say fatherhood still the most important man's job
2010-06-20 20:04:00 If only most men would act like it is the most important thing that they do. Too many men are dodging their responsibilities after having fathered a child, disappearing from their son's or daughter's life. Maybe on day it'll happen, but I'm not sure I'll be around long enough to.The Father's Day poll is here....

R&B singer Donell Jones, who is most popular for songs like "Shorty Got Her Eyes on Me" and "U Know What's Up" featuring the late TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, has cut ties with La Face record label after four CDs and gone independent with his label, Candyman Music Inc.On December 9, 2009, Donell Jones released "The Lost Files," which were unreleased tracks made during the making of his first four CDs--"My Heart" (1996), "Where I Wanna Be" (1999), "Life Goes On" (2002)...

"The Challenge of Fatherhood", by Massimo Camisasca
2009-10-25 07:38:00 The Fraternity of St. Charles Borromeo is a society of missionary priests working around the world. We live community life together and work in parishes, schools, universities, and hospitals. Mons. Massimo Camisasca, founder and general superior of the Fraternity of St. Charles, has educated priests and seminarians for twenty-five years. A new translation of one of Fr. Camisasca’s fundamental works has just been published by Human Adventure Books: The Challenge of Fatherhood: Thoughts on the Priesthood (September 2009)The first part of this book contains several lessons given to his seminarians during their formation. The second part is articulated around five words: the three “classic” terms (poverty, virginity, and obedience) are completed with reflections on fatherhood and fruitfulness. An excerpt from the book:“When God conceives of our face, he conceives of it in its complete form, even though each of us has to achieve it in time as a progressive discovery. And each one ...

2009-06-23 21:18:00 Do not let the rhetoric of unbiblical feminism cow you into thinking that Christlike leadership from husbands is bad. It is what our homes need more than anything. And Now, Single Fatherhood by Choice
2009-01-05 17:56:00 I’ve long criticized the Single Motherhood by Choice movement for ignoring the importance of fathers and the two-parent family. Jerry?s Strange Thoughts on Fatherhood
2008-09-02 19:32:00 I’ve been saying it ever since Rebecca Romijn announced that she was pregnant - this pregnancy is just downright weird! It started with her saying one day that she and Jerry O’Connell were trying and then the next day announcing the pregnancy and it just got weirder from there. Now I don’t care how good ...
Do you know why delayed fatherhood can cause miscarriage?
2008-07-14 14:43:00 Prof. Know Why answers for your general knowledge and awareness on: Do you know why delayed fatherhood can cause miscarriage? Couples who want to start a family, better plan it early in your life because the more you delay, the stronger becomes the risk of a miscarriage, say the scientists. And this applies to both men and women. Contrary to the older belief that men remain fertile even at old age, this new research points out that delayed fatherhood can also cause miscarriage like late motherhood. Delayed fatherhood for men is a cause of concern for a healthy pregnancy and the baby as well, doctors warn, after a recent research found that male fertility begins to decline when they reach their mid-30s. Doctors said men who wait until their 40s before starting a family face a greater chance of their partner having a miscarriage, because of the poorer quality of their sperm. The researchers studied the records of more than 12,000 couples treated for infertility at the fert...

The Self-Esteem Extreme
2008-04-22 16:33:00 Beginning in the early 1980s, child development specialists encouraged parents to build their children’s self-esteem by giving them lavish amounts of praise. Fatherhood
2008-04-13 20:05:00 I love my father, and the older I get, the more like him I become. It would be no surprise to most men of my age to hear that this thought used to just plain piss me off. Time moves on however, and the influence of our genetics is, at some level at least; inescapable. This realization that I am not as different from my Dad as I used to imagine, was accompanied by a new respect for the man that gave me half of the chromosomes required for me to be born. Seeing the world through the eyes of my limited experience, shaded as they are by that of those who have gone before me; once vast chasms of difference have shrunk to cracks in the sidewalk. I have become able to empathize with the man my father was when he decided that the young wife and the seven year old son were a bit too much to handle. He has begun to teach me ? perhaps without even knowing it ? how it is to be a man with a wife and a child on the way. He has also taught m...

Fatherhood made Affleck quit smoking
2008-01-25 11:37:00 Actor Ben Affleck reveals that his daughter is the reason he was able to kick the butt. "You sit in, like, a Barker lounger (chair) and he (hypnotist) sips water and just talks to you for an hour, and explains how nicotine is poison. All of a sudden, you thought' 'This is asinine that I've been doing this to myself for all these years’,” he said. "My last cigarette was on November 10th, 2005... Fatherhood: Are you up to the challenge?
2008-01-19 11:23:00 I recently watched the 1991 movie ?Father of the Bride.? It was fun to watch. Something caught my attention though, and had to get a pen and copy the caption. Stanley T. Banks (played hilariously by Steve Martin) delivered these lines:"Who giveth this woman?" This woman. But she's not a woman. She's still a child. And she's leaving us. What's it going to be like to come home and not find her? Not to hear her voice calling, "Hi, Pops" as I come in? I suddenly realized what I was doing. I was giving up Kay. Something inside me began to hurt.Incidentally, the battle with my son?s custody is still pending in the higher court. What I have is only a temporary court order to keep my child. It is quite amusing to read the daily entertainment on the custody case of Britney, because the case is quite similar with ours. The difference is, we are no celebrities. Okey, I digress.I am just probably feeling melancholic when I was deeply touched by Banks? line there. No, I am not giving my...

Fatherhood...
2007-12-12 21:10:00 I was just starting to feel bitter. Bitter that it was MY body that had to go through all kinds of crazy transformations to make this small person; bitter that it was my most tender parts that had to actually produce the little guy and then slowly SLOWLY recover from that; bitter that it was MY body that still felt twisted and torn from trying so hard to feed the little dickens, only to learn that I wasn't doing a good job... I was starting to resent the husband. I resented that he got to go to work every day while my life ran on an endless three-hour loop. I resented that he did daddy duty when it seemed easy, but that it was always me that was up in the middle of the night and always me who was singing silly songs and pacing when I wanted to be doing almost anything else. I was just feeling drained. And tired. And angry... and totally unappreciated. I was feeling like we were going to have to sit down for an "LF talk" (as one of my good friends calls these husband-right...

Fading Fatherhood
2007-12-05 06:00:00 It is very, very cold today. Even though I've already turned up the thermostat high enough to seriously bring into question both my commitment to the environment and to reducing our electricity bill. Anyway, I'm looking forward to my husband's return from work, in the hopes that he'll be able to stem the tide of toddler energy racketing around the house at present. Yesterday, he spent quite a while horsing around with the boys, and as I watched them play, I couldn't help but notice the little lessons that are embedded in the fun. Things like winning and losing gracefully, not giving up when things get tough, and working together as a team. They were subtle, but they were there, and it gave me a nice moment to reflect on all of the little gifts that fathers give their children. And so, I was terribly saddened by this recent British survey, which found that more boys saw athletes as role models rather than their own fathers. Actually, the surve... |
