2008-04-29 01:17:00 More than 100 NFL players wanted to be on the cover of Madden NFL 09. The man who ended up there couldn't care less about the series. He's too old for Madden now, too (Image credit: Kotaku) Appearing on the cover of Madden NFL franchise is often seen as an honor for many players in the league, but don't tell that to current cover boy Brett Favre he couldn't care less.Favre, who retired at the end of the 2007/2008 season, will be featured on the cover of the latest Madden game as a swan song of sorts to his long running NFL career. Here's what he had to say about the honor in an interview with ESPN:"I'm not savvy enough to play this game. Most of the younger generation has no idea [Madden] coached...Some of our guys play Madden better than they play on Sundays. And they spend more time talking about playing Madden," the NFL veteran and future Hall of Famer had to say.Hey Brett, if you don't want it, I'm sure there are several Sports Legends readers who would love the opportun...

Life after Brett Favre
2008-03-07 09:45:00 All around the US, and especially in the state of Wisconsin, football fans are a little bit in shock. Â The news of the immortal Brett Favre retiring was something everyone saw coming, and yet most of us still don't believe it. Â Now comes the question many Packer fans and football junkies are wondering... what's next? When you start wondering what will happen to the NFL without Favre, you will probably realize that this question has been answered many times before and the truth is, pro ably nothing will change. Â Sports as strong and established as football go on with or without any individual. Â The football machine will just keep on rolling. However, if anyone considers him or herself a real football fan, that person has to admit Brett will be missed. Whether you loved him or hated him, he was just plain fun to watch. Nobody took on the roll of the beloved rebel like he did during his 16 year career with Green Bay. He's a specimen we may see once in a...

Despite Love-Fest, Favre Not Best Ever
2008-03-07 02:29:00 I'm not going to write one of those sappy love letters to Brett Favre that I keep seeing all over the Internet. The fact is, I've never really been a Brett Favre fan. I've always considered him one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact, I'm convinced that the Packers are better off without him. And trust me, there is a contingent in that organization that agrees; you don't accidentally post his retirement news on your website, then quickly accept his retirement without any effort to talk him out of it if you want him back. After all, his awful game against the Giants cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl. Yes, there was extremely bad weather (understatement of the year), but the game was nothing more than a continuation of Brett Favre's disappointing showings in big games. Since Mike Holmgren left, Favre has consistently come up small in big games. Yet somehow he continues to get a free ride. The media loves him. Note to NFL quarterbacks: be nice ...

Au Revoir, Brett Favre
2008-03-06 17:15:00 Click here to see Favre's press conference streamed live. Sometimes, certain players transcend the game of football. This is a Buffalo Bills blog, and Brett Favre is a transcendent player. Today, the legend is officially announcing his retirement from the game. It has no effect on the Buffalo Bills; like Favre's playing career, it has a profound effect on any football fan. Brett Favre wasn't the greatest quarterback of all time. Nonetheless, he's a legend. He was, at the very core of his mythology, a gunslinger. You'll be hard-pressed to find a quarterback that was as much fun to watch ever again. Au revoir, Brett. You'll be missed. Check out NFL.com at noon to see Favre's retirement press conference.
You Haven't Had Enough Of Favre? This Is For You!
2008-03-06 13:49:00 UPDATE - The Presser is now schedule for 12:30 est. I know you haven't had enough of Brett, so I give you this. The press conference that Favre didn't want to have just two days ago is happening today. Silly Brett. Anyway, if you should want to watch #4 tell the world he's tired, you can do so over at NFL.com. They will be Live Streaming the event starting at 12est/10mst, which for Styg is 8AM in Alaska. I will be watching, if for no other reason that to see how Favre's presser compares to Elway's good-bye. Something tells me that Favre saying Super Bowl expectations are, mentally, too hard to handle is going to be a bit different than Elway saying the hardest words any athlete can say, "I physically can't do it any more". Only time will tell... Click on Brett below to watch...

Brett Favre
2008-03-06 11:31:00 A legend has left us, and the world of football will never be the same. Brett Favre's career and his legacy have been discussed in depth so much everywhere by now, I won't go into great detail. Favre leaves the NFL holding virtually every major statistical mark a quarterback can achieve in all-time career categories, including wins, touchdown passes, and passing yards. While it is possible his numbers will one day be bested, we will not likely see that day come any season soon.Favre was a player like no other and I always hoped that the television scheduling gods would look upon me and grace me with a Packers game. Favre will be sorely missed by the entire state of Wisconsin and his fans the world over, myself included. However, from Favre's position, this was likely going to be his best chance to go out as close to the top as he would be able to. Last year was one of his best and finished off an unparralled career.

Favre has more time to start Bass Fishing!
2008-03-06 00:00:00 The retirement of Brett Favre or as most Packer fans call him, #4, has very little do with Bass Fishing....And for the most part, I try to keep this Blog about bass fishing and outdoors topics, as native Minnesotan and life long Vikings fan, this is just really good stuff. I have put together a little montage to celebrate #4 Not too mention all the suffering I endured from over the top & delusional Packer fans my 4 years at University of Wisconsin - Stout. I also work with 4 cheese heads. So I am reveling in their pains today As much as most of you will miss Favre's 4th quarter heroics, I will miss the interception that followed up the 4th & 26 against the Eagles and down field heaves in times of desperation that often led top defensive backs coming the other way with the ball. Not to mention, I believe his last pass as a Packer was an INT against the Giant! I am sure you Bear's fans are like pigs...

2008-03-05 00:17:00 The Denver Broncos on Tuesday re-signed defensive end John Engelberger and tight end Nate Jackson, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Engelberger (6-foot-4, 252 pounds) is entering his ninth NFL season and fourth year with the Broncos, who acquired him in a trade from San Francisco on July 15, 2005.
