Freddie King Reissue: My Feeling For The Blues
2008-09-03 14:00:00
Today is the birthday of one of my favorite bluesmen (I say that about everyone of them), but the thing that makes me like Freddie King so much is that he did not get the kind of recogniction that I feel he deserved. So I guess that I try to compensate for that by enjoying his music all the more today.Wikipedia says;King was born Frederick Christian in Gilmer, Texas on September 3, 1934. His mother was Ella May King, his father J.T. Christian. His mother and uncle, who both played the guitar, began teaching Freddie to play at the age of six.He moved with his family from Texas to the South Side of Chicago in 1950. There, at age 16 he used to sneak in to local clubs, where he heard blues music performed by the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Elmore James, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Howlin' Wolf took him under his wing, and Freddie also began jamming with Muddy Waters' sidemen, who included Eddie Taylor, Jimmy Rogers, Robert Lockwood, Jr. and Little Walter.By 195...

Feeling Heelish
2008-09-01 07:36:00
The more I’m searching through designer heels (on-the-web), the more I’m getting crazier. Crazy I was , already before. thanks. The feat is to  balance thyself on those tiny longish heels perfectly … feeling the oh-so-over-powering confidence and Bang. The thump in ego and not on floor. I think I should start wearing some already. Practice makes ...
Feeling Balmy
2008-08-29 11:00:00
Sometimes when picking a lip colour we?ll gravitate towards a sultry, siren red in a slick, creamy lipstick bullet. But, eventually we back down and default to some sort of sheer rosy gloss, for fear our lips will crack upon contact with the lipstick and that we?ll never be able to rock that shade of ...
Feeling under the weather
2008-08-29 10:02:00
I had quite a “chatty” day today. Spent most of the morning and the early part of the afternoon on messenger with friends. With that being said, most of you probably are starting to get that all warm and fuzzy feeling because, well, you know, nothing brings warmth to the heart than the thought of having ... The Feeling of Luxury in Interior Design
2008-08-21 11:42:00
Continuing on the theme of luxury. The trend 'Understated Luxe - 2008' is all about ?whispering? luxury and elegance in home decor, furnishings and accessories. To "Live Highly" (quote from an ad for luxurious hotels) does not necessarily always mean to spend fortunes of money. How do you create the feeling of luxury in interior design? One of the most often used approaches is with the help of precious materials (or their immitations) - glittering gold or sparcling crystal. But one of my favourates is the tufting pattern. Designer Jacques Garcia's Cristobal chest uses both of them. Its pillowy, tufted pattern is carved from a solid and maple veneer body, while its lustrous finish is achieved by hand-rubbing silver leaf layered over gold leaf. The chest's black lacquer interior houses two adjustable shelves."Originally employed to secure cushioning to thebacks and seats of upholstered furniture, tufting today is also more for visualinterest than practicality. Tufting adds dimensi...
Bodies of Water - A Certain Feeling
2008-08-13 04:25:00
There’s a fine line between compositional high art and indulgent indie rock spectacle. If it weren’t for the quasi-religious fervor soldered on to every note of A Certain Feeling, the Secretly Canadian debut from Los Angeles’ Bodies of Water, we’d rightfully be talking about the latter. Led by husband-and-wife team David and Meredith Metcalf, this ...

Syncing My Friends, Feeling the Social Media Burn

I?ve been looking into ways to get my followers in sync between the various services I?m using, mainly FriendFeed, Twitter, Facebook, and Identi.ca. It?s not easy. Of course there?s the Twitter 2 FriendFeed Importer, but ultimately, adding contacts is still very much a manual process these days. I tend to batch this process on ...
Feeling Like A Bad Mommy
2008-07-02 15:55:00
My sanity was saved when I met Janice at church. I was desperate by the time I had the opportunity to talk with her about my son Caleb. After I implemented her method, Caleb potty trained in one weekend.I was a single mom to three children with Caleb being the middle child. He was nearing his fourth birthday and still was not potty trained. At the time, I was also going through a custody battle for my youngest son. When I was relayed some information that criticized me for not having my son potty trained. It hurt really bad yet I was frustrated. Even my ex husband was criticizing me when I felt he should be the one to help potty train our son. Then Janice came along assuring me that Caleb would be potty trained. I was still skeptical though. Caleb had not shown any interest at all in learning to use the potty. It was almost as if he enjoyed being in soiled pants.Countless days and nights I cried. I was angry, frustrated, and even depressed about it.The opportunity to enroll Caleb in He...
Feeling Older Faster*
2008-06-28 09:02:00
I've been enjoying the hell out of Double Cross recently -- it's a real kick to read stories about all the bands I worshipped as a teenager, see pictures of groups I'd long forgotten, find out more about names that were just mysteries on a lyric sheet thank-you list. One of the posts got me to listen to Bl'ast! (or BL'AST! or however you prefer to type it) for the first time in ages. Probably 15 years at least. I was almost trembling with excitement as I put "It's In My Blood" on, sure that this was gonna kick my ass like it did when I was 18, and then, uh, I didn't like it. It sounded pretty awful in fact. I know a lot of people hold them up as fabulous, and once I did too, but they didn't age well. (In eternal optimism, I've half convinced myself that I just needed to get back in through "Power of Expression" instead.)But it got me started on a mini-kick of revisiting the stuff that I listened to when I was much, much younger. Not stuff that I've listened to pretty consis...

Finals, Fevers, Flu and Feeling Frazzled
2008-06-06 00:12:00
Ever feel like life is conspiring against your every effort to have a relaxed day (much less more than just "a day")? That is my feeling lately, especially the last two days. You see, it's the end of the school year, here, and having my daughter schooled through the California Virtual Academy means that one, I have to be sure she stays caught up- and when she isn't, making sure she gets caught up; and two, that she has time to study for her finals, so that we can show that having her home has been a good decision- beneficial for her grades and study habits. What that means is that I'm spending significantly more time looking into her lessons, in order to try to help her study and understand each subject. I'd really like to know: Can anyone explain to me what the value of learning what the figurative language means in poetry, has for adulthood? I'm serious. If you can tell me a valid use for this knowledge, for the average person (not including teachers- English or otherwi...
Is Anybody Else Really Feeling The Pinch?
2008-06-05 19:14:00
A fat cat squeezed into an empty water box, thought that would be an appropriate picture to accompany this post. We are really starting to feel the squeeze of this recession! I don't know if any of you out there are really feeling it, but we certainly have been, especially since the gas prices have increased so. For instance, I used to keep my gas tanks full. I haven't run my truck in over two months. It sits in the driveway nearly on empty. My car is getting to the "ding, ding" moment on the gas tank every single week and I only throw in 10 to 20 bucks at a time until "payday". Paycheck to paycheck living here lately and I make pretty decent money as a specialty nurse. My health care coverage cost has gone up this year and the benefits really stink! This is United Health Care, folks. My portion that I pay each month is nearly $600 and I have one bill I'm making payments on and just wrote another check for $106. This is not hospital stays here. It makes me sick, although I can't...

JPMorgan is getting closer to the finish line of closing the deal of the Bear Stearns buyout. On Friday the Bear stockholders said 'YES' to the deal. Despite this, JPMorgan still has many hurdles to sort out. According the media, it is going to cost about $2.3 billion. $1.4bn will be spent only to the firm and $900 million will be spent on buying Bear Stearns stock. The meeting took only 10 minutes and was orchestrated by Bear Stearns' chairman James Cayne and CEO Alan Schwartz " read more in hotstocked.com
No sense of loss, only a feeling of relief
2008-06-02 08:00:00
By Bob PattersonWhile at our community of reason bible study (Sunday), I became aware that many ex-Christians, having become atheists, felt a loss in the process. Some even said they almost wanted to return to their previous beliefs for the comfort it provided. I thought this very interesting and different from my experience with religion. First, let me say my parents agreed to have NO religious influence over me, as my mother had been a Catholic and my dad's family, although claiming to be Christian, didn't regularly attended church. So how did I get involved? Simple, It was the neighbors who took me to church with their son, who was my age. I remember liking the singing and the people, but the Pentecostal hell, fire and damnation didn't make much sense at all. I was only six or seven at that time. I attended this church until I became a boy scout and switched to the Methodist church. There was a lot less hell, fire and damnation in Methodism than Pentecostalism, I noticed. I tr...
Rays? Baldelli back playing and feeling upbeat
