2008-01-23 21:16:00 For some reason, I have been curiously affected by the death of Heath Ledger. I don't know why because I would hardly describe myself as a fan. I knew almost nothing about his life, professional or personal, but I do remember being profoundly moved by his performance as Ennis del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain". In fact, I came out of the cinema sobbing, mascara running down my cheeks. It's quite amazing that someone so young (he was only twenty-five at the time) could interpret a character in such a sensitive, emotionally nuanced way. Maybe I was upset then because Ennis del Mar, tight-lipped and emotionally repressed, reminded me so much of own father (although, as far as I know, my father wasn't taking it up the arse from a neighbouring dairy farmer - mind you, if he was, I really wouldn't be surprised.
