2008-08-13 14:47:00
By the time Boston and Texas were through, there were 36 runs on the scoreboard and the Red Sox had rallied to win — after blowing a 10-run lead. Hide all the pitchers! It was one of those crazy nights at Fenway Park. Kevin Youkilis’ go-ahead homer sent Boston to a 19-17 victory Tuesday ...

Red Sox and Rays fight at Fenway Park
2008-06-06 20:17:00
MLB games haven?t been hightlighted news lately. The bad part is that the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays maybe managed to get more attention than the NBA Finals today… but it was because of an awful fight. Thursday night had more than baseball action on Fenway Park, when it suddenly turned into something ...
Fight night at Fenway Park; Rays-BoSox brawl in Beantown
2008-06-06 14:33:00
One out into the top of the fourth inning, Kevin Youkilis jogged out to right field. The Red Sox' third center fielder of the game, J.D. Drew, had taken his position. There had been one swollen and reddened nose (Coco Crisp's), three ejections, and Chris Carter's major league debut. Oh, and soon after, Manny Ramírez and Youkilis had to be separated in the dugout. It was just another quiet night at Fenway Park. Bad blood had been boiling from Wednesday night's confrontations between Crisp and Joe Maddon, Crisp and Jason Bartlett, Crisp and Akinori Iwamura. Sure enough, the second pitch to Crisp from Rays starter James Shields in the second inning last night struck the batter's upper right thigh. For a second, Crisp hesitated. He dropped his bat. Then he dropped his helmet and rushed the mound. Crisp's head snapped back, Matrix-style, as Shields swung and missed with a right. Crisp landed a punch. The benches then cleared, and in the center of it all, Crisp was at the...

2008-05-30 11:10:00
Hello on this Friday morning, still dark because I woke up much too early. The contest to win one of the two copies of the 6 DVD set from A&E Home Video that chronicles six of the greatest games ever played at Fenway Park as voted by the fans is on! The discs are in my hot hands, and I had a chance to savor a generous helping of each disc. For the full details of which games are included and a list of the bonus features, simply scroll down two posts and you'll find everything you'd want to know. Ok, here goes...The six DVDs are housed in a beautiful metallic silver-colored hard plastic box with easy access to the goodies inside. There are no security stickers to peel off at your own risk. Each disc has one game on it, the earliest being from that magic year of 1967, when Yaz had the year of all years. The date of the game? September 30, 1967, when the Sox were in the thick of an improbable pennant race and needed something Yaz-special. Boy, did they get it! The last disc is also t...

Hawk attacks 13-year-old girl at Fenway Park
2008-04-04 14:30:00
A 13-year-old girl touring Fenway Park on a school trip was attacked by a resident red-tailed hawk that drew blood from her scalp Thursday. She wasn't seriously hurt, but some observers saw an omen for a certain New York Yankees slugger in the attack at the home of the Boston Red Sox. The girl's name is Alexa Rodriguez. Vince Jennetta, a teacher who chaperoned her class trip from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn., told The Boston Globe that Alexa is "a little shaken, but OK."The hawk was perched on a railing in the upper deck behind home plate while the group toured the stadium. The hawk flew at the girl and swooped with its talons extended, scratching her scalp. A single egg lay in the hawk's nearby nest in an overhang near the stadium's press booth. The nest and egg were removed at the direction of state wildlife officials.

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Fenway Park
2007-11-27 12:12:00
There's not much going on in the Sox news department, except for ongoing talks with the Twins about their soon-to-be-traded Johan Santana.....talks that include the New York Yankees. That's one destination we do NOT want to see him call home for the baseball seasons to come. So I wanted to tell you a quick story, a tale I will always remember. The names have been changed to protect the innocent (just kidding!).Flash back six or seven years ago. I and a couple friends were on our way to Fenway Park, motoring up Route 84 east near the Massachusetts line, where Route 90, the Mass Pike, intersects and takes you straight east (or west) into the heart of Boston, and that fabled little ballpark called Fenway Park. We were listening to WTIC-AM1080, a radio station fabled for it's unwavering Sox coverage for more than 50 years, and during the top of the hour newscast (the 11AM hour, I remember that), we heard a report, an "Amber alert" before there were "Amber alerts," that said a child h...
