Now in their seventh year, the Festival brings Hip-Hop work that represents the intersections of culture and community, technology, tradition, celebration and resistance. Join HHTF in witnessing the full breadth of Hip-Hop culture live and on stage. All events and performances throughout the week-long festival are free and open to the public. Performances will take place at a variety of venues throughout the city including Children?s Hospital, Studio Theatre, Dance Place, Flashpoint Theater and the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.

As in a 10 song free sampler featuring Run Kid Run, Thousand Foot Krutch, Pillar, Fireflight, Dizmas, The Afters, Leeland, Mike Farris, and more. There are at least 3, if not 4 or 5, number one hits inside this sampler. Totally, absolutely sweet.These aren't no-name songs either. "Unbreakable", by Fireflight, "Falls Apart" by Thousand Foot Krutch, "For The Love of The Game", Pillar. Seriously cool stuff.I could probably wax eloquent about how incredible it is all night, but I really need to get to bed. 2008-05-06 04:29:00 Cecil Percival Taylor is world renowned for being one of the progenitors of the free jazz movement that took the jazz world by storm in the mid 1950's. After working with Hot Lips Page and Johnny Hodges for a short duration, Cecil formed his own quartet in 1955 featuring Steve Lacy on soprano sax, Buell Neidlinger on bass and Dennis Charles on the drums. From 1961 to 1986, Cecil primarily performed and recorded with alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons, drummer Sunny Murray and Andrew Cyrille. Over the past two decades his recordings have mainly been released on European record labels, with the rare exception of a few select recordings that can be found in the US. There were performances of some of the illest underground Mc's in the game right now. SUPA NOVA SLOM , NYOIL, REBEL DIAZ and a performance by KALUNGA NEG MAWON a dance group devoted to preserving Afro culture through music and dance. EMMA RAMOS from E2K MAGAZINE and IVAN SANCHEZ were in the house. We thankfully have people like Beronica to keep us informed on the Austin Hip-Hop Scene, live and direct and from the streets...4/20 was pretty dope for those of us that attended this years festivities @ The Reggae Fest. Whether you attended Saturday or Sunday, I'm sure you enjoyed yourself despite the price increase at the door. There was a good turnout of patrons even without our four legged friends that were not invited to attend this year. It was definitely crowded, so not for the paranoid or claustrophobic type. The main stage kept the crowd entertained during breaks with a DJ, but for me, the main attraction was a guy on the mic at the west end of the festival. Vendors were in full bloom, my favorite item was the yard for just $10 bucks you could have your thirst filled with some party flavors.
