Intensidad rockista, sensibilidad pop, cercanos al cabaret pop,... todo ello a veces condensado en un solo tema largo, y en otros casos, elegancia en dos minutos. Pero ante todo y sobre todo complejidad instrumental, en ocasiones muy barroca. Un caos creativo dificil de seguir y que necesita de más de una escucha para poder ser apreciado, algo que es premeditado por parte de los hermanos Matthew y Eleanor Friedberger. Altamente recomendable aunque la portada puede parecer de casette de gasolinera.

2007-10-15 02:26:00 The Fiery Furnaces: Widow CityThe sibling duo known as the Fiery Furnaces return with their sixth full length album. The Furnaces are known for their high output of albums, releasing six albums in a four year span. It's hard to have such a high output and keep a standard of quality.Some would argue the quality of the Furnaces' output. The first track on Widow City is the perfect track for the Fiery Furnaces. The seven-plus minute long "Philadelphia Grand Jury" features a tinkling piano line and harp then suddenly and abruptly switches to an anthematic guitar riff and then back to the piano part with no real rhyme or reason. The songs composition is odd to say the least, all the while Eleanor Friedberger sings about legal woes, red tape, and conspiracies. At the end of the song all the listener can think is "isn't that so the Fiery Furnaces?"The Furnaces have always been unashamed of being art rock. At best they sound like the Velvet Underground being fronted by Patti Smi...

This is completely another Fiery Furnaces record, which sounds like what they are. Playful and unpredictable music!
