A different kind of overseas Filipino
2009-09-14 23:41:00
Filipinos working abroad are so commonplace that “OFW” is part of our vocabulary and consciousness, and our GDP rises and falls significantly according to the influx of remittances. Union Bank Philippines keeping Filipino?s in Poverty
2009-08-20 05:38:00
Union Bank Philippines is doing its best to keep Filipino?s in poverty and people hungry. Remember the story from yesterday Unionbank Philippines Theft it is now 24 hours since that poor woman has been able to eat, because Unionbank Stole her money and will take 15 days to pay it back if they ever pay it back. We still can see no reason why it takes 15 days other banks in the world can sort a problem from a ATM fault like this in a few hours, we can only presume the reason for 15 days is it?s a long enough that many people will forget it, so Union Bank never has to pay it back. This seems to be the case we have had comments left by people who have never got their money back after ATM machines failed to pay out. While Unionbank does it?s best to keep people hungry and in poverty they also report record profits. Pat yourselfs on your back Union Bank you have record profits because you steal from your customers and keep your country in poverty. Bonnie and Clyde also bragged about the h...

PinoyBlogoSphere.com - Filipino blogger arrested? Who? When?
2008-06-09 03:47:00
Source: www.PinoyBlogoSphere.com - What’s your take on the concern raised by Benj on his post at FilipinoVoices.com: The Worst-Case Scenario: The Cyber Crackdown? “…Opening the path to blogging to people like Lozada and Panlilio seems to be a double-edged sword….” “…While the value of freedom of expression is undeniable and is arguably a concept that should almost supersede any other idea out there, this move also exposes the once sheltered community of bloggers to possible run-ins with the administration…” “…Filipino political bloggers have always had their way all these years. No one has ever been charged and they could criticize using the strongest terms but what happens once the spotlight finally hits this corner of cyberspace….” “…With more eyes and ears listening in to blogs, we may be just a few months away from seeing our first blogger arrest.” Do you also have reservations...

Filipino Jeepneys going Green
2008-05-21 20:48:00
Most countries have their own way of providing public transportation and for the Philippines, jeepneys are perhaps that common way to travel if you want to save on cost and get away from the usual traffic. But the problem here lies in the fact that majority of these jeepneys run on diesel fuel and are thus harming the environment as well with their smoke belching exhaust. However all is not yet lost. With the green technology that is available, it all depends on how these jeepneys can be re-designed in a way to which their mode of operation can be improved. It all starts from their mechanical components, most of which are being addressed by the part makers of these locally assembled vehicles in the Philippines. Jesus S. Bautista, secretary general of the Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, said in an interview that the group recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Green Renewable Independent Power Producers (GRIPP) to produce 44 e-jeepneys....

Filipino mobile platform, anyone?
2008-05-12 15:55:00
I agree with one of my favorite tech news sources (TechCrunch.com) that the next technology war will be fought in the realm of mobile platforms. In the dawn of OS-agnostic and Web-deployed applications, the old operating-systems war seems to be finally fizzling out. (A rather anticlimactic denouement, if you ask me.) Microsoft and Apple have ...

Filipino Bloggers on Multiply.com
2008-05-08 15:21:00
The other day, I started a Multiply site and collects different Filipino bloggers [1] with their pictures. I start my collection locally. I post some of the pictures of my collegues and since they are blogging they become the first set of Filipino bloggers that I post on my multiply site. The purpose of this Filipino bloggers site is to have a certain "database" of bloggers from different parts of the Philippines and the world and try to describe their personal lives and interest. The Filipino Bloggers' Site on Multiply.com will be a starter for more larger network of bloggers online. I hope I can collect a lot of them. The process of collection, well, I'm still thinking of it. I'm planning to use PHPIzabi and setup a site so that the collection will be easy. For the meantime the collection will be manually posted by me and will be taken by taking requests from those who are interested to be part of the Filipino Blogger's community. I think Arlo Gilbert [2] can't be part...

A Filipino in Bangalore
2008-05-05 19:08:00
After the saga of dealing with the Embassy of India for my visa, I am now here in India, particularly in Bangalore, for my Action Consultancy or AC.The AC is what the Asian Institute of Management calls its internship for the MBA students. The AC is an official school requirement that counts as a subject that an MBA student needs to pass. Its main objective, at least from how I see it, is to validate what the student has learned from the core subjects by letting him/her deal with a live project that has an impact to the enterprise. In my case, I'm doing my AC in a company called Infosys as part of its InStep Internship ProgramMy first couple of days here have been pretty eventful. I arrived here Sunday and rode a taxi to the Infosys campus. Let's just say the cab ride was a "multi-sensory" introduction to the city-- I briefly experienced the both the good and the bad in the transit from the airport to a place called Electronics City.I arrived and checked in the company housing pro...

If you have the time to listen to localized radio stations or even to music channels, you should have noticed that most of our Filipino solo artists are just doing covers or reviving hits from the past. Isn’t that frustrating? What happened to the talent of Filipino musicians? Will they just survive from reviving songs to make sure that it will be a hit and they will make money?
