Larry Jordan's Final Cut Pro 6 Essentials
2008-03-28 09:00:00
Final Cut Pro Essential Editing by Larry Jordan, is an in depth to guide to editing video in Final Cut Pro 6, from lynda.comThis is first in depth tutorial that I've gone through, where I've had access to the training files used in the title. The host for this title, Larry Jordan, comes over in a very friendly manner, and with the way he presents what he's talking about, makes it enjoyable to watch, and add to that he also adds some funny little anecdotes, from his experience of using Final Cut Pro.I found it very easy to follow his instructions, and since I was using the same files he was, it was very simple. At the beginning of each chapter, Larry briefly goes through what he will be showing us, and then goes into it, and at the end, he then sums it up, and gives a listing of any short cut keys that he has mentioned. After watching the nearly 11 hours of training, I've feel that I have learned some really useful tricks, that I could either possibly use, or will use in some upcomi...

Coen Bros. use Final Cut Pro to edit Academy Award winning "No Country for
2008-02-28 17:07:00
There's a great story over at MacWorld about Joel and Ethan Coen's Academy Award winning Movie "No Country for Old Men", and how it was edited entirely in Final Cut Pro.There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of years about Apple’s hardware triumphs, like the Intel Mac, the iPod and the iPhone. But there is more to Apple than just hardware — one of the unsung heros for Apple is its professional line of applications like Final Cut Pro. The Coen brothers proved during the making of No Country for Old Men just how influential a Mac and the right software can be during the editing process. The movie won four Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In fact, it is the first movie edited with a completely digital workflow on Mac to win the Oscar. “They [Apple] made it really easy for us — we cut now much the same way we cut on film [using Final Cut Pro]. It’s hugely faster,” said Ethan Coen. The Coen brothers aren’t stopping there — they ar...

Matrox MXO 2.1 Beta Drivers For Final Cut Pro Users
2007-11-29 00:42:00
I did a review of the great Matrox MXO 2.0 device, and was impressed with the results I got while hooking up a simple computer monitor (it's recommended to use an LCD that supports resolution of 1920 x 1200) to my Mac running Final Cut Pro (FCP) and the MXO, and getting a complete and professional monitoring solution.New beta drivers, version 2.1, were released to support the latest versions of FCP 6, along with Mac OS X Leopard/10.5 (Mac OS X Tiger/10.4 is also supported).  The best news is the ability to now use Apple's professional color corrector and finisher, Color 1.0.2, which is part of Final Cut Studio 2.  Find the drivers and information here, and check out Matrox's MXO site here.

Color Correct Quickly In Final Cut Pro
2007-10-19 08:03:00
I’ve got a tip that I’ve been using which I love.  Not sure if other people are using it or if it’s a “Come on….everyone knows this…” but I just figured it out (yesterday) and I love it. If you are color correcting your footage in Final Cut Pro on your timeline, say you have 30 clips in a row and want to move through all of them quickly, do the following: Change your sync to “open” in the canvas or viewer. Move to your first clip in the timeline (anywhere in the clip). Apply your 3-way color corrector to the first clip and open the filter (visual color corrector) tab in the viewer. Make your adjustments. Now click on the “1->” or “2->” to place that color corrector to the next clip (1-> or to skip one clip and place it on the following one (2->.  You can also place it on the previous clip (<-1) or the one before the previous clip (<-2) Doing so will copy the same Color Corrector 3 Way into the next (or previous) clip.  Then just move your timelin...

Shmoopie on Adbrite

Web 2.0 and you - How it's all possible!
2007-08-10 21:41:00
I run several websites. Many of which receive considerable amounts of hits from all around the world. I write for various online publications on different topics ranging from video production, movies reviews, tech and social reviews. When I started, I was looking for a complete package, for an easy way to manage all my sites and all my different interests. I found that in two different companies that offer similar services but in a different way. 2 FRIENDS I FOUND ALONG THE WAY The first one I got involved with was Typepad.com and their very easy to manage Blog services. I signed up for the Pro plan and created my first few blogs catering to three or four different niches. Not long after, I decided to finalize my choice for a hosting company on GoDaddy.com. I bought a few domain names and some hosting and was up and running in no time. GoDaddy offered very competitive prices and impressive online features such as their "Fax Thru Email", "PodCast Hosting", "Website Tonight" (which m...
The New iMovie from iLife 08 | Is it reinventing editing?
2007-08-10 21:40:00
Apple has unveiled the new iMac today, we've all heard and we're all very excited and eager to have it sit on our desks but there is something else that is creating a impressive revolution with every release: iLife 08. Steve Jobs presented a nice demo of iLife 08 with all kinds of brand new features but the one that stuck out the most was with iMovie 08. At first, being a power user and editing all my productions with Final Cut Pro HD, I thought "here we go again, another convoluted and watered down application for amateurs". After reading up on it and checking out the new features, I could not have been farthest from the truth. This is not a new version of iMovie but a new app all together (with its brand new logo as well). Like other new apps and the new Apple trend for the past few years, iMovie 08 looks more like Aperture, iTunes or iPhoto, with its library and easy to follow menu and buttons. You can now organize your whole video library by events instead of just having...

Final Cut Pro and the Emperor's New Clothes
2007-04-06 16:00:00
Much like everyone else in the media production world I owe a good chunk of my professional career to the Mac. Avid, Media 100 and Premiere NLE's all had a home on the Mac in the early days through to today. And then when Apple decided to enter their phase of schizophrenic indecision whereby they hybridized between hardware manufacturer and software developer, Final Cut Pro came along courtesy of the purchase of Keygrip from Macomedia. Their really is no argument that the impact of Final cut Pro has been profound in terms of simple widespread popularity. But from the privileged position I have as a film-maker and journalist, a position whereby I have had the opportunity to use, abuse review and exploit every NLE on the market, its very hard not to see Final Cut Pro as the Emperor's New Clothes of post-production. Of course saying that is just asking for a flame war. And I hereby declare that i wont be responding to flame comments supplied to this post; rather I'll say my piece he...
