Squeeze on Tech Firms could pull down IT Office Rentals in NCR
2008-06-06 08:35:00 An anticipated oversupply in information technology or IT office market is, expected to push down rentals of these buildings in the National Capital Region (NCR), which includes Delhi and its environs. The US is still the largest market for Indian information technology companies contributing to as much as 45% to the total IT and back office services outsourcing business in India. The demand for IT office space may come under pressure due to a slowdown in outsourcing from US companies. This could lead to an oversupply in such space in Gurgaon and Noida in NCR. Interestingly, while IT office building rentals are expected to come down, non-IT office buildings in Delhi and its suburbs command higher rentals, because of a lack of supply. Non-IT office rentals have also been growing at a faster pace than IT office rentals. Over the past six years, rentals have been growing at 9.4% and 16.5% for IT and non-IT office space, respectively. This is largely on account of the significant increa...

Trade Shows for Software & Technology Firms - Do They Still Make Sense?
2008-06-06 01:15:00 Let's talk about what, for some people, is a marketing method from a bygone era: Trade shows, or Trade Fairs, as they're referred to in most places outside of the US.At one point in time, Trade Shows were a staple in most every tech company's marketing budget--shows like Comdex, PC Expo, Network World and a host of others were annual rites of passage. But in this Internet age, they have been greatly reduced in the marketing mix, if not taken completely out of the picture. There are many reasons for this. First and foremost, the ROI of tradeshows was always very questionable for most exhibitors. In marketing departments everywhere there were sharp discussions during budget time, on whether to continue the expense of the major shows. They always seemed important to be at, but usually it was pretty difficult to make a direct correlation to enough actual revenue, to justify the large expense. As the Internet became more prominent, this ROI looked even worse in comparison--as it did fo...

One More Reason To Bet Against Financial Firms
2008-06-02 22:06:00 If you follow the markets at all you are probably familiar with the current debate over the financial firms, like Lehman Brothers and others. The two camps line up roughly like this: the bulls say that all the bad news is behind us, The Fed has pretty much guaranteed that they will bail out a bank rather than let it fail and they still have ways to make money. The bears say that the financials are full of shit, that you can't believe anything they say when it comes to their finacial positions and that any single one of them is liable to go out of business overnight, or at least fall 90% before someone steps in to try and save them.I think you know where I sit; firmly in the camp of the bears. Why? Because when I read articles like this I just know, for sure, that there are losses being hidden and we are nowhere near the end of the credit crisis. From the story:Merrill Lynch & Co., Citigroup Inc. and four other U.S. financial companies have used an accounting rule adopted last year t...
