Global fixed income with high yield.
2008-01-29 19:04:00 ETF market is booming. On the other side the old kind of exchange traded mutual funds are loosing vogue. Currently you can find plenty of ETF specialty like global equity, sector's niche, currency ETF and also with fixed income. But the offer for fixed income ETF is quite limited. Mostly focused only on US government, corporate and municipal bonds. Investors looking for global exposure can choose among closed end funds. Except US and other major economies you can find also very exotic investment. I've listed below the highest yielding CEF. Majority of them are keeping bonds from emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Mexico, Eastern Europe. High yield is compensated by lower rating than US bonds are having.TickerNameSponsorYield(F-HO)First Trust Strategic High Income FundFirst Trust Advisors LP16.36%(HYF)Managed High Yield Plus Fund, Inc.UBS Global Asset Management13.11%(MGB)Morgan Stanley Global Opportunity Bond FundMorgan Stanley Institutional12.85%(HNW)Pioneer- Diversified...
Fixed Income and FX Hold A Credit Crisis And Equities A No Show.
2007-11-15 23:33:00 Subprime mortgage-related losses across the buy side have left the global banking system hobbled, accelerated the pace of decline in home construction and home prices not seen since the Great Depression and heightened the risk of a US if not global recession. Looking at asset prices it is clear that since July when the story ...
Try to hold your fixed income positions inside your RRSP
2007-11-07 04:55:00 Since your RRSP is a tax-sheltered environment your investments and investment transactions lose their tax identity while they are inside it. In other words, nothing that happens inside your RRSP causes you to pay tax inside your RRSP.This can be used to your advantage to reduce your overall tax bill if you try to keep your fixed income investments inside your RRSP (and your non-fixed income investments OUTSIDE your RRSP). You probably already know that if you can reduce the tax your investments and investment growth is subject to, you can grow your assets more quickly.Any interest income you earn on your fixed income investments is taxed in the year the interest is earned by the investment (and not when you actually receive it either!) at your highest marginal tax rate. That means that if you had earned 5% interest on a bond, the 5% in interest you receive this year is taxed at your marginal rate. If your marginal rate was, say 40%, then 40% x 5% interest payment = 2% - which is lo...

Stock Portfolio Strategy - Leveraged ETF and Fixed Income Model Portfolio
2007-06-19 02:36:00 The portfolio strategy was developed around the use of the new leveraged ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) that seek to double the daily performance of a particular index. The goal of this portfolio is to allow a long-term investor to create a basket of securities that do not limit the upside potential of being invested in equities, while creating a cushion if the equity markets turn negative.
The Monday Edition- Fixed Income Strategy For This Week & Speculative Trade
2007-06-11 07:19:00 I've finally got some spare time, so thought I'd share my thoughts on one wild week we're going to have. The price action in the US 10-year Treasury yields last week was extremely bearish as the bull channel in place since the 1990s was broken, when 10-year yields passed 5.03%, compromising the lower highs (as evident in the chart below). The relevance of this bull channel should not be underestimated as it reflects a period when the Fed was able to lower inflationary expectations in the US economy. The failure of the 10s to find sufficient buying interest to maintain the longer term trending pattern is indicative that longer term inflation expectations may no longer be contained in subsequent cycles if the data continue to firm up, the core inflation data don't come down fast enough or the unemployment rate fails to rise. How do we trade it? (please refer to the chart) First, if I ignore the break in the longer term trend, I would look for resistance at the brown line 5.20-.25% ne...
