2008 College Football Teams to look out for
2008-05-15 23:39:00 Just thought I would do a brief post on some College Football and thoughts on the favorites for next season.Georgia BulldogsGeorgia was very young and inexperienced last season. They return a boatload of talent. After a very impressive season winning the Sugar Bowl, they are just that much more experienced. QB Matthew Stafford returns and is looking to be not only one of the top QBs in the SEC, but one of the best in the nation. RB Knowshon Moreno also returns after a big year rushing for 1334 yards and 14 TDs.USC TrojansUSC loses some key players, but returns some important impact players; more specifically on the defensive side. Many were expecting LBs Keith Rivers and Rey Mauluga to enter the draft but now they're back. They return 3 starters in the secondary and the QB position is deep with Mitch Mustain transferring in. They will also be very deep at tailback once again. Watch out for RB Joe McKnight.Florida GatorsThe Gators were also inexperienced and young, especially on the...

If you can outrun everyone on the Florida Gators, Urban Meyer will give you
2008-04-11 20:57:00 WTF??? Here’s the article: Florida coach Urban Meyer is searching for the fastest student on campus. He’s quite certain it’s one of his football players — Louis Murphy, Chris Rainey or Deonte Thompson. But just in case, he’s having a race Saturday to find out for sure. And what happens if someone beats his speedsters before the team’s ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "If you can outrun everyone on the Florida Gators, Urban Meyer will give you a scholarship!", url: "http://www.sportsburn.com/2008-/04/11/if-you-can-outrun-everyo-ne-on-the-florida-gators-urban--meyer-will-give-you-a-scholarsh-ip/" });
Florida WR Percy Harvin might need heel surgery
2008-04-01 06:40:00 Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin will miss the rest of spring practice and might need surgery to repair a heel injury.Coach Urban Meyer said Monday that team doctors were consulting with specialists to determine how to treat Harvin?s nagging right heel. ?It?s unique,? 2008-02-16 17:19:00 Albert, Florida Gators Mascot, Videos. This first video is so funny. 2008-01-02 14:45:00 Given the recent surge in popularity to this website using the search term “USC Cheerleaders” and the amount of requests I get for more of these beautiful Trojans supporters, I figured I’d answer that call correctly. Let us take picture number one. The ladies decided to dress up for the occasion. ...
College Football Weekend Preview
2007-10-19 06:39:00 Auburn at LSUJust imagine if Auburn knocked off LSU here and took the SEC West lead. Auburn has been playing pretty well lately, but LSU is looking to avenge their loss against Kentucky from last week. LSU's Defense should give fits to Brandon Cox and Auburn's Offense. The Pick: LSUOregon at WashingtonThis may be a tough game for the Ducks. Washington usually plays pretty well at home and can match up individually with Oregon. The secondary could give Dennis Dixon some trouble as well. The Pick: WashingtonTexas Tech at MissouriThis is a big game for both teams as each is vying for a Big XII Championship appearance. Texas Tech's Offense can score no doubt on Mizzou but can their defense slow down Chase Daniel and the rest of the Tigers' Offense? Expect a game in the 40's.The Pick: Missouri Michigan at IllinoisI would have to say this is a must win for both teams if either of them want to contend with OSU for the Big Ten Title. Michigan has been on a roll lately after their embarr...

Questionable Coaching
2007-10-08 06:17:00 As I look back on Florida's last two losses, I am starting to question part of Urban Meyer's coaching. I am astounded at his time management after losing two weeks ago to Auburn and LSU on Saturday.Against Auburn, Florida had one timeout left as the Tigers had the ball around the Gators 35, with around 50 seconds left; Urban Meyer let the clock run all the way down to 3 seconds instead of taking the timeout and having Auburn kick the field goal with about 30 seconds left. I mean, if Auburn makes the field goal, why not give your team a chance to go down and either tie it or win it with about 25 seconds left? Better to have your own teams fate lying in your own hands, instead of the other teams.Again, Saturday night Urban Meyer did just about the same thing vs. LSU. After a running a play on 2nd down, LSU had the ball with about 1:40 left to play, Meyer let the clock run all the way down to about 1:10 instead of taking the timeout right after the play. LSU punched in the eventual w...

College Football Weekend Preview
2007-10-04 23:27:00 Ohio St. at Purdue With both teams being undefeated this may be the Big Ten Championship, but we won't know till the end of the season. Purdue has been pretty impressive offensively but the defense has been pretty susceptible to big plays and has had a hard time holding it's own. OSU's Offense has been able to put up points and the defense has been electrifying. The Pick: Ohio St.Wisconsin at IllinoisWho could have imagined this being a game for me to keep an eye on at the beginning of the season? This Fighting Illini team is the real deal and it looks like Zook finally has this team where he wants it. The talent and all-around athleticism of Illinois will keep them in just about every game. Wisconsin has struggled this season and have been pretty inconsistent on both sides of the ball; They squeaked out another close one last weekend against Michigan St.The Pick: WisconsinOklahoma vs. TexasThe Red River Shootout isn't as glamorous as it used to be but it's still a big game. College Football Weekend Preview
2007-09-28 02:50:00 I'm ready for some College Football. Last week I went a horrible 3-4.West Virginia at South FloridaThis is one of the Big East games of the year. South Florida is on a roll after big wins against Auburn and North Carolina. West Virginia's Defense needs to step up and prove they can contend for a National Title against a pretty good South Florida Offense, lead by QB Matt Grothe. I expect this to be a great game, but WVA's Offense should not have too much trouble moving the ball and scoring. The Pick: West VirginiaUSC at WashingtonWashington should be a good test for USC, especially with the game being played in Seattle. USC has been very impressive and I believe they are the most balanced team in the country. This could be a good game, but the Huskies must be able to put up points if they want any part of the Trojans. The Pick: USCAuburn at FloridaThe Gators look to get revenge after their collapse last season at Auburn; but again I guess it wasn't that big of a deal anyways. (Nati...

TSF Top 20 College Football Poll
2007-09-26 01:07:00 Here we go our weekly TSF Top 20 Poll:1. USC-PR- 1The Trojans did it again, demolishing this time the Washington St. Cougars. John David Booty was solid again with 279 yards passing and 4 TD. The running game is definitely one of the best in the country. The defense continues to show their arguably the best in the country. They have a big test at Washington this week. 2. LSU- PR- 2LSU had a good win vs. South Carolina. As you've read before I'm going to continue to praise the defense, it's really tough to score on their D, but once they play another team who is more balanced on both sides of the ball (ahem... Florida) we may see the Tigers fall.3. Florida- PR- 3Florida struggled this past week, but it was the first road game for their young defense. Tim Tebow has been nearly unstoppable with 1096 yards passing and 10 TD. The defense has been some big strides so far. Big home game vs. Auburn this week, I am expecting a win, it's just one more game to get that young D ready for LS...

Superman and The Flash lead the way for the Florida Gators
2007-09-24 18:30:00 1096 passing yards and a 10 to 1 TD to Interception ratio with seven rushing TDs.491 total yards and four touchdowns. The 2007 Florida Gators are led by none other than "Superman" Tim Tebow and "The Flash" Percy Harvin. The performances in the first four games of the season of Florida Gators QB Tim Tebow and WR Percy Harvin have been nothing short of heroic.Just call this team the Justice League of College Football. Their mission: to protect the National Championship and make sure it stays out of the hands of College Football's villains (more on that later).Superman and The Flash aren't alone. Rounding out the JLCF is Batman (Senior Safety and Superman's roommate Tony Joiner) and the Martian Manhunter (or QB hunter, DE Derrick Harvey). Both are relentless in the defense of the Gators' National Championship. And just who are college football's villains aiming to topple the Mighty Florida Gators (sorry, even I can't keep my tongue in cheek long enough to refer to them as the JLCF t...
TSF Top 20 College Football Poll
2007-09-17 22:36:00 Here's TSF's Week 3 - Top 20 College Football Poll. We've decided to make it more of a power poll to comment about each team instead of just a regular poll.1. USC- PR- 1The Trojans looked impressive with a 49-31 win over Nebraska. The score isn't as close as it indicates. The offense was very balanced. John David Booty was impressive and the rushing game looked great with 4 runners getting 40+ yards. But it was the defense that looked even more impressive.2. LSU-PR- 2LSU has the best defense in the country and they stomped all over Middle Tennessee 44-0 without starting QB Matt Flynn and star WR Early Doucet. The Tigers could finally get tested by a very good South Carolina team next week.3. Florida- PR- 4Florida moves ahead of WVA because of their impressive win over Tennessee. Florida's Offense can score on anyone and the defense is continuing to improve. In my mind, the young D will only get better as the season progresses. Two more games at Ole Miss and vs. Auburn to get mo...

College Football Weekend Preview
2007-09-14 02:07:00 College Football is upon us again and it's time for some more analysis and predictions. Last week I went 6-4.USC at NebraskaUSC looked mediocre at best against Idaho in week 1. But expect the Trojans to look like their old selves again. USC is still the best team in the country. They should be a 14 point favorite. Nebraska looked iffy for awhile to beat Nevada and last week squeaked out a win at Wake Forest. Since the game is in Lincoln, they definitely can play with USC and make it a game, at least till the 4th quarter, but that last quarter will be the difference. The Pick: USCLouisvile at KentuckyThis should be a shootout with two high octane offenses and okay defenses going at it. Two of the best QBs in the nation will square off in Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson. Louisville's defense is a cause for a concern giving up 42 disheartening points to Middle Tennessee. Kentucky is very capable of pulling off an upset and in order for the Cards to win they need their defense to make so...

College Football: What I learned from Opening Night
2007-08-31 22:03:00 As you can already tell I'm very excited that College Football is underway. I live and breath College Football and all of Labor Day Weekend I will site back and relax and watch some games that I've been waiting for ever since March Madness ended. Here's a few things I learned from Thursday nights' games.LSU's Defense is absolutely solid and arguably the fiercest defense in the country. After watching LSU pick off Mississippi St. 6 times last night and their front seven making many tackles behind the line of scrimmage, I have come to the conclusion that LSU has one of the best defenses in the country. They made the Bull Dogs look like they were a D-2 team playing out there. The D-Line, lead by Glenn Dorsey, were clogging the holes and making stops behind the line of scrimmage all night. The LBs were filling the gaps and sacking Michael Henig constantly. The secondary was very impressive taking the WRs out of their routes and staying at home and attacking the ball very aggressive...

BCS Bowl Predictions
2007-08-25 09:03:00 TSF's comprehensive 2007 NCAA Football Preview concludes with the BCS Bowl Predictions.USC vs. West VirginiaUSC should run the table even with a semi-tough schedule. WVA has a very good chance to finish undefeated even with games at Rutgers and South Florida, their offense will be too explosive.Wisconsin vs. FloridaWisconsin will be one of the best teams in the country and will finish 11-1 and and win the Big Ten. I see Florida finishing 10-3, but still earning a BCS Bowl bid with some impressive wins. LSU vs. MichiganLSU has a very good chance at finishing undefeated but something tells me they will lose to either V-Tech or Alabama, which will keep them out of the title game. Michigan will finish 2nd in the Big Ten and winds up in the Sugar Bowl with no fit in any of the others. Virginia Tech vs. LouisvilleSomething tells me that V-Tech may just be playing in the BCS Title Game, but I can't make up my mind about their game at LSU. As of right now I see them finishing 12-1 with wi...

College Football 2007 Conference Preview: SEC
2007-08-18 07:11:00 The SEC is no doubt the best conference in the nation with some of the fiercest defenses and the defending national champions Florida Gators and another favorite for this year's title in LSU.Predicted Order of Finish:East1. FloridaThe Gators lose 9 starters on defense, which could be a problem if they want to defend their national title. But good thing they will have one of the most dynamic and explosive offense's in the country. Chris Leak is gone, but QB Tim Tebow is primed to be the next great Gator QB. The WRs will be very talented with Sr. Andre Caldwell, So. Percy Harvin, Jr. Louis Murphy, So. Jarred Fayson, and WR/TE Cornelius Ingram all back. Tebow will have all sorts of talented receivers to throw to. The RB situation still looks a little cloudy but former backup Kestahn Moore looks very promising, but they still can stick Harvin back there when needed. Now to the defense, this could determine the Gators fate. Only two starters are back (DE Derrick Harvey and SS Tony Join...

College Football Games of the Year
2007-07-07 06:26:00 The 2007 College Football season schedules officially came out earlier this week, so now we'll take a look at the best of the best of all the games.September 1Tennessee at CaliforniaThis game should be at least better than last years game with the Vols drubbing the Golden Bears. Both teams are heavy contenders to win their own conferences and are legitimate contenders for a BCS Bowl game as well. Early Prediction: CaliforniaSeptember 3Florida St. at ClemsonBowden Bowl V will take place on Labor Day Weekend. Tommy has handled his dad pretty well winning the last two and three of four overall. This is a huge early game to get a jump start in the ACC and FSU cannot afford a loss here with their tough schedule as it is.Early Prediction: ClemsonSeptember 8Virginia Tech at LSUTwo of the countries top defenses will meet at one of the most hostile environments on CBS. Both teams return a lot of talent; this should be a great game with players such as Matt Flynn, Jacob Hester, Early Doucet,...

Thoughts on Billy Donovan and Write On Sports
2007-06-06 21:38:00 First I would like to start off with that I am now writing for Write On Sports along with TSF. My first article is up and you can locate it here: Memphis resurgence?.Now to my thoughts on Billy Donovan. This deal was very interesting, personally, I think he had to stay in the state of Florida or at least go to New York, where he's from and get the Knick job. He had to stay in Florida, so it would be the Miami Heat or Orlando Magic job or else he stays at Florida.I can see why he went there in the first place, the Magic is a young team, not to mention star Dwight Howard, along with plenty of cap room. I definitely could have seen him one day leading the Magic to an NBA Championship. When Donovan went back to a Florida press-conference I think that's what did it for him, he realized he can't believe why he is leaving. I am sure he thought to himself "how can I leave all of this behind". And that gave him second thoughts.Donovan is a great coach and now that he will be back at Flori...

2007-06-05 09:56:00 It looks like the NBA is stepping in to show Donovan and others who think that they can sign a contract and not honor it what happens if they decide to back out. How about a 5 year ban from the NBA. I think that something has to be done to prevent people from having ...

Tampa Bay Bucs Staff to learn from Florida Gators Staff
2007-05-25 00:10:00 Image courtesy of SportsLogos.net In what is probably one of the cooler reports of the off-season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coaching staff met with the Coaching Staff of the National Champion Florida Gators today to share strategies at Raymond James Stadium. Gruden had this to say about the potential gains from the gathering: "We're going to go back to the facility and maybe learn a couple tricks from the Gators" As a Florida State University Alum, this kind of irks me and just comes off as wrong (collusion)? Nah, but I must say, Coach Urban Meyer is one great offensive mind to pick, thats for sure. Maybe Gruden will implement the Shotgun this season. Then again, maybe not ... source: Bucs Beat aka the St. Pete Times For you Gator Fans (eh), be sure to checkout Swamp Ball, SB Nation's Florida Gator Blog ... that site is excellent and updated pretty much daily

Suns look done and Bison inching closer to deal with Florida
2007-05-17 02:24:00 Game 5 of the series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns continues tonight. Game 4 was awfully ugly as 3 players have been suspended due to some altercations in the game. Robert Horry has been suspended 2 games for his hard flagrant foul on Steve Nash and elbow to Raja Bell. Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw are out for tonight's game after leaving the vicinity of the bench during the incident.I may be a Spurs fan, but I think the suspensions of Stoudemire and Diaw are definitely unnecessary and wrong. I don't think they left the bench to get at Horry. I believe they did it because that was their star player who Horry completely took out. The rule was designed for guys coming off the bench meaning to throw punches; which wasn't the case for Diaw or Stoudemire.Rules are rules, yes they did break one, but I think this is a dumb rule by the NBA and it needs to be changed. Look how much this will effect the series. I gotta believe the Spurs will win game 5 now. The Suns ...

NDSU Bison vs. Florida Gators, could it be?
2007-05-10 04:48:00 Rumor from over at the Bison Media Blog is that the NDSU basketball team is trying schedule a game with the two-time defending champion Florida Gators. This is the word from Steve Hallstrom on his blog. "Nothing finalized as of early this evening (Tuesday) with Florida, but I know there was something to be decided one way or another on Tuesday. Now it appears it will be at least late Wednesday. There's been a lot of speculation about it being a tournament, but the way I'm hearing it it's a game with Florida on November 9th. Could be both, who knows. What a way that would be for the Saul era to begin. First game at FL against the 2 time defending champs."Yes, you heard it. There may possibly be a match up between NDSU and Florida. I mean, with Florida's top players gone, I really think NDSU could pull this off. They upset #13 Wisconsin in 2005 and #9 Marquette this past season. And it's not like Florida will be a top 15 team next year, but you never know with Billy Donovan on the...
