Floyd Mayweather Jr. Announces Retirement From Boxing
2008-06-07 03:24:00 The following news item is from ESPN.com as written by Dan Rafael. ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — After Floyd Mayweather Jr. easily outpointed Carlos Baldomir to win the welterweight championship in November 2006, he stood at the podium at the post-fight news conference and broke down in tears as he stunningly announced his retirement from boxing. Despite the emotional outpouring, few believed Mayweather was serious, rather that he had simply been overcome by the moment. As it turned out, he had been. Less than two months later, Mayweather agreed to face Oscar De La Hoya. In May 2007, Mayweather outpointed him in a fight that shattered all boxing revenue and pay-per-view records. After beating Ricky Hatton in December, plans were in motion for Mayweather-De La Hoya II to take place Sept. 20. But cross it off the schedule. Mayweather, 31, announced his retirement from boxing again on Friday in a move that appears much more serious than his impromptu declaration two years ago. The rematc...

50 Cent Joining Floyd Mayweather At 'WrestleMania' Match Against Big Show
2008-03-04 21:16:00 It looks like 50 Cent will join the mix at WWE Wrestlemania! Check this out:(MTV News) It's being billed as "The Best vs the Biggest." Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will face WWE's Paul "Big Show" Wight at "WrestleMania XXIV" on March 30 in Orlando, Florida. Even though the 7-foot-plus Wight outweighs "Money" Mayweather by more than 300 pounds, the boxing champ has been his cocky self when hyping the fight. One trick Mayweather may have up the sleeve of his robe is getting 50 Cent to accompany him to the ring. The boxer came out to the sound of 50's "I Get Money" during a verbal confrontation with the Big Show two weeks ago. On Friday, when the rapper was hosting New York radio station Power 105.1, Mayweather asked his friend for a favor. "I'd like for you to bring me out [at 'Wrestlemania']," he said. "I'm coming. I'm coming," 50 answered. "We got a friendship," Mayweather previously told MTV News about his relationship with Fif. "We talk about business a little bit. We...

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
2008-02-07 05:53:00 The Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. slugger fest, which shattered previous boxing box office records last spring 2007, are close to punching it up again, all perhaps for the glory of the cash cow. This anticipated fight is game on, as according to ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ CEO, Richard Schaefer. Schaefer announced the rematch is slated for Sept. 13 or Sept. 20, 2008 and will be featured exclusively on HBO pay per view. The actual site location for Mayweather versus De La Hoya Bout II has not been established yet. Mayweather in May 2007, won in a split decision to take De La Hoya’s middleweight title at the MGM Grand. The actual match itself between boxing’s No. 1 ‘Pretty Boy’, Mayweather, verses the ‘Golden Boy’, De La Hoya, had mixed reviews, but ultimately, a rematch was in the cards. This fight is a great shot in the arm for the sport of boxing. Oscar De La Hoya fought well enough in the original match to deserve a rematch from Mayweather. So if you want ...

Mayweather And Hatton Prepare To Do Battle
2007-12-09 01:05:00 In what has to be the biggest (talent wise) fight since Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis squared off back in 1999, undefeated champs Mayweather and Hatton will go at tonight to determine which Welterweight is the true legend. The Arizona Republic brings us a detailed analysis of the Superfight:Floyd Mayweather Jr. has the bling and belts and everything else that blinks like Las Vegas neon. He even has Wayne Newton, Mr. Las Vegas, in his entourage. But Mayweather's town will sound like an English pub tonight. There haven't been so many Union Jacks in one U.S. city since before the American Revolution. The Ricky Hatton army has invaded with songs, chants and drink. It will leave with all of that and several thousand hangovers. But it came for more. It is in Las Vegas to see its leader, Hatton, capture the welterweight title. Hangovers are a better bet.Mayweather (38-0, 24 KOs) is favored to keep the bling and belts against Hatton (43-0, 31 KOs) at the MGM Grand tonight. There are se...

Shane Mosley Calls Out Floyd Mayweather Jr - 31 Oct 2007 04:23:29pm
2007-10-31 17:23:00 By Johnny Benz In a recent interview published in El Nuevo Dia , Shane Mosley who is set to face Miguel Cotto on November 10, stated to the publication that Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be his next choice to fight if he defeats Cotto. Mosley added that retirement would be his next possible option if fight with Mayweather Jr does not happen. Mosley must defeat Cotto and Mayweather Jr. would need to Ricky Hatton before any negotiations for a fight could be started. "If I win against Cotto, the next fight that would of course be with Floyd Mayweather Jr." Mosley added: "They say he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport and therefore I would like to fight him. But that would only happen if he beats Ricky Hatton and if I beat Miguel Cotto, and I know Cotto is going to be a very hard, very difficult fight. Cotto is a great welterweight champion. If the fight (with Mayweather) doesn't happen, I might consider not fighting anymore." Mosley really want...
Can Hatton the ?Hit Man? Leave Floyd Mayweather Jr sleeping with the fishes
2007-10-23 02:42:00 By Mike Cassell It is very easy not to like Welterweight phenomenon Floyd Mayweather Jr. 38 ? 0, 24 KO?s. He plays a spectacular bad guy, even when he is, dancing with the stars. He can be unapologetic, brazen, cocky, but more importantly he can outbox pretty much any fighter on the planet, which makes all that other stuff mute. There has always been plenty of fighters who loved to talk but very few that could walk the walk. Floyd Mayweather Jr. can make a full grown professional fighter look like a mere child in the ring. His hand speed is unmatched, his ring portability is amazing, and oh yeah, he has real punching power. Great fighters with speed always have two things that eventually catch up to them... Time and pressure. As a great ring tactician gets older, his speed and reaction time slows and a fighter that can provide pressure, will eventually beat the more talented boxer. Unfortunately for Ricky Hatton, Mayweather Jr. is a young 30 in the ring, who has denied every bra...

Boxing Is Back!
2007-08-16 17:35:00 Just when critics claimed that boxing was all but dead, the unthinkable sees to have happened. The promoters, fighters, television executives, and seedy businessmen seemed to have come together in a valiant attempt to bring boxing back to its glory days. With the next six months stacked with great fights this could indicate a change in the trend of lackluster fights and sizzling scandal. This isn't the first time boxing has been against the ropes and like a cagey old veteran, you can never count out America's oldest sport. By Doug MacEwanNews late last week that welterweights Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley have an agreement for a fight Nov. 10 in New York is another piece in a potential 2007 rebirth of a sport that was given last rites before and after Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s dull May 5 victory over Oscar De La Hoya. Finally, a well-worn metaphor taken from boxing by politicians during every campaign and sportswriters never seen at a ringside can be applied to the battered ga...

IWF's Updated Pound For Pound Boxing Rankings
2007-08-09 08:34:00 As we continue to bring you the most comprehensive coverage in the world of combat sports, we put together the latest pound for pound rankings for professional boxing. For those of you who have missed out on some of the great fights that have gone in the last year or so we have included recent highlights for every boxer on our list. By Doug MacEwan Top Ten1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (38-0, 24 KOs) Welterweight ChampionPlus: After a laughable retirement Floyd decided to lace them up one more time for a megafight with Ricky Hatton. Both champions come in with undefeated records and even if most see it as a one sided boxing clinic, expect it to be another huge PPV event.Minus: The Hatton fight is huge but if Floyd wants to cement his legacy he needs to fight someone that presents at least a minor risk. Matches against Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito would all be more competitive.2. Manny Pacquiao (44-3-2, 34 KOs) Junior LightweightPlus: Now that the contract ...

Ricky Hatton Wants Mayweather Jr. [David Stefanini]
2007-06-24 21:41:00 Ricky Hatton wants a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr.I was watching the fight between Hatton and Jose Luis Castillo. I instantly became a believer in Hatton. I think he deserves a fight with Mayweather. Hatton has the pure punching power that is needed to knock the smirk off Mayweathers face. What other opinions are on the table for Floyd? The only thing I see out there for him is a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya. It is highly likely at some point there will be a rematch, but if it does not happen soon the inner circle of boxing is going to be asking for Hatton vs Mayweather.Hatton has a chance to do what De La Hoya could not do; hurt Mayweather. I feel Mayweather will try to run away from Hatton and box around him. The only problem with that is, Hatton makes every fight his. I do not think Mayweather has the chin to stand up Hatton. Hopefully we will see this match in the near future.http://img68.imageshack.-us/my.php?image=amerlegendslogo-5wj.gif

UFC fans are nothing but a bunch of ?Neanderthals!?
2007-06-07 16:33:00 ...According to Vanochten.Brian Vanochten you fat bastard. Once again, it comes as no surprise; the UFC is gaining more negative light and criticism from ill-bred assholes who don?t understand the sport of mixed martial arts. With the recent upheaval of criticism from such major names as Floyd Mayweather, Tommy Morrison and even Bernard Hopkins, the criticism is just another day in the park. In a recent article featured on mlive.com, a news website based in Michigan, Vanochten got off his lazy ass and decided to write an article bashing the UFC and fans of the sport. He doesn?t do it in a professional fashion, why would he? When he can come off as a total douche bag! Like everyone else in the media bashing the UFC, he begins his article by referring to the UFC as ?glorified street fighting.?He goes on to state: ?Here?s what UFC fans have in common:A. They?re mostly Neanderthal males hiding in caves.B. They're not nearly sophisticated enough to appreciate the sweet scie...

This Is Getting Out Of Hand
2007-05-24 05:53:00 The somewhat controlled battle between UFC President Dana White and WBC Welterweight and Super welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has opened a new chapter as of late, effectively spiraling out of control and towards a legitimate fight. For those of you needing to brush up on the topic, read Irish Whip original articles "Articulation of the year" and "Why would he go home and watch basketball?". For those of you too lazy to click, to recap, Mayweather bashed on Chuck Liddell, stated he would give Liddell a million dollars if he beat a heavyweight boxer from his promotion, and said that the UFC ?ain?t shit?. White came back with a challenge of having one of Mayweather Promotions? heavyweights fight Liddell under MMA rules. All this riff raff was most recently commented on by one of the most decorated boxers of all-time, Middleweight Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins. Perhaps the only voice of reality, honesty, and clarity in this entire debacle, Hopkins remarked that "They'...
