2009-06-08 03:48:00 One bit of news last month that we meant to comment on was (in early May) the news that Ford was allegedly planning to bring the Focus RS to the United States, and then at the end of May that Ford had canceled those plans. We were laughing so loud at these two news stories - picked up all over the web and even in Britain - that we were rolling around on the floor. Folks, there weren't any plans to cancel - as anybody in the press should have known. The Focus RS can't be brought to the North America because: 1) the certification process would take a year or more, and b) the current Focus will be replaced by a remodeled car inside of two years (and that's the one which will be built here, at long last). The North American Focus has no enthusiast value at all, although due to the gas crisis it has sold above expectations. The last North American Focus with any enthusiast interest at all was the SVT Focus, and that became obsolete against the competition so quickly that it is all but forgotten these days. The European Focus, however, has always offered at least two enthusiast variants and has recently taken a quantum jump forward with the new RS model.
