Bye Bye Folsom Prison Blues
2008-01-22 18:23:00
Originally made famouse in the song by the late great Johnny Cash, “Foslosm Prison Blues,” the city of Folsom has undergone some major changes. Although it retains some of it’s gold rush era rail stop old town charm, there are now brand new communty colleges, upscale subdivisions, and new resteraunts. Part of my early childhood was spent in Folsom around the time I was entering first grade. I have since returned to the greater Sacramento area and compared with the memories of my youth, it would seem that Folsom has a new lease on life. Several business parks make it a great locale for those who want to drive down the street to work. It’s freeway proximity also makes it a very close bedroom community for those who want a quite suburban lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, Folsom is an atypical suburb because someone in the planning commission got the right idea. They must have decided to bring some of the classy fare of the ...

Folsom Real Estate Market Showing Signs of Recovery
2007-12-09 20:08:00
I was talking to a would-be buyer a few days ago who was thinking about buying a home in or around Sacramento, Folsom or Roseville and he was actually a little saddened to hear that prices in Folsom have not dropped as much as he would like. Well, there's more news. Not only have prices not dropped, Folsom is actually showing signs of recovery. The median price of a single family residence in Folsom has risen from $414,500 in October to $436,500 in November - that's a rise of about 5.3%Average days on market fell from 59 to 52, a signal that at least some buyers are done waiting and are taking the plunge. Another fact: As opposed to only 11 homes that went pending in October, in November, a whopping 50 homes went into escrow! Someone tell the bubbleheads that!!!
Swobo Folsom Bike: Interview with Founder TIm Parr
2007-11-07 01:27:00
After living in NYC for over ten years I finally started riding around the city on a bike this past spring. Of course, as these things go, I now have all sorts of opinions on the urban bike experience. While I'm now surveying all different bikes, the Folsom from Swobo is my new favorite. (Click image for detail.) The Folsom is like a featherweight tank. An aluminum frame and lack of external brakes, gears and other attachments makes for a lightweight bike. But unlike other pared-down models, the frame tubes are fatter like a mountain bike and the tires are also a slightly oversized—almost like a hybrid road bike/BMX. The coaster brakes—like the ones from when we were kids—require some adjustment. Learning to pedal backwards to stop took a few minutes and a couple minor crashes, but now that I've got the hang of it, it's very simple. Being in NYC, which is mostly flat-land, no gears are needed. Nothing on the Folsom has a quick-release so all the parts are relat...

A more Succinct Post on Why Gay Leaders should Criticize Folsom Fair for Al

A number of readers, in e-mails and in comments to my various posts on the Folsom Street Fair, have questioned my call for for gay leaders to demand that that organization prevent children from attending its celebration, basically saying that these leaders aren’t responsible for every problem in our community. That’s a fair and honest argument. ...

The Folsom Fetish Fair--Some Think It's for Kids
2007-10-03 10:29:00
Two-year-olds Zola and Veronica Kruschel waddled through Folsom Street Fair amidst strangers in fishnets and leather crotch pouches, semi and fully nude men. The twin girls who were also dressed for the event wore identical lace blouses, floral bonnets and black leather collars purchased from a pet store. Fathers Gary Beuschel and John Kruse watched over them closely. They were proud to show the twins off.

Pretty much a libertarian on how people act out their sexuality, I would normally have little to say about this past weekend’s Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. First off, it is bad enough this “Fair” happens. Second, they have no age limitation to attend the fair. San Francisco Folsom Street Fair Shakes Up The Religious Right
2007-10-01 23:17:00
San Francisco's FOLSOM STREET FAIR is "The grand daddy of all leather events" takes place each September and just concluded this past weekend. Queens in rubber and boys in nothing much at all gather 40,000 strong on a few hallowed blocks of South of Market to preen, prod, and procure meat on a stick in the most pervy of company! It is one of the largest, wildest events in North America! This year drew lots of media attention, thanks to the Religious Right!  Reported on the Gay Porn Blog, this year "Folsom Events set them up -- and they took the bait! -  Concerned Women for America has called on CA elected officials to publicly condemn the poster for the 2007 Folsom Street Fair -- a parody of the Last Supper with apostle porn stars (Titan Exclusives Tober Brant & Dean Flynn), drag nuns (Sister Roma, natch), and -- gasp! -- a black Jesus (source Towleroad). - Despite the fact that Folsom Street Fair is a pan-sexual event, and there are women in the poster, they...

Miller Beer steps in it again: The Folsom Street Fair fiasco
2007-09-27 21:11:00
From Michelle Malkin When last I wrote about Miller Beer, the company was cluelessly sponsoring illegal alien protests and spinning furiously. Miller went ahead and sponsored the “Folsom Street Fair†in San Francisco…billed as the “world’s largest leather event.†  In response to complaints from Christian groups, ...
Folsom Street Fair a disgrace to San Francisco...
2007-09-27 03:48:00
I try to be an open-minded person and for the most part I think I am. But my open-mind closes at something as disgusting as the annual Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. This year's fair is September 30th. What is the fair?Folsom Street Events is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization serving the adult San Francisco alternative communities. Through the production of street fairs, Folsom Street Events promotes diversity within the leather/alternative lifestyle, highlighting entertainment, service and vendors. Proceeds from the production of the fairs are distributed to organizations which promote a sense of community, diversity, cooperation, health and human services. Our mission is to create world-class volunteer driven leather events, providing the adult alternative lifestyle community safe venues for self-expression, emphasizing freedom, fun and frolic, while raising money to benefit San Francisco charities. I checked it out folks, believe me, what it really is--is the world's la...

Stuck in Folsom Prison
2007-05-16 19:48:00
Yeah, like this is necessary.Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is pressing the U.S. Congress to enact a sweeping intellectual-property bill that would increase criminal penalties for copyright infringement, including "attempts" to commit piracy."To meet the global challenges of IP crime, our criminal laws must be kept updated," Gonzales said during a speech before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Monday. It's good to hear that the whole prison overcrowding problem has been so thoroughly resolved. Now that they've gotten all of the really hardcore convicts rehabilitated, now they can concentrate on ... wait, they haven't fixed that problem yet? Oops. Can you imagine how that conversation would go in the big house? "What're in fer? Rape? Murder? Extortion? Kidnapping?" "Nah, I downloaded 200 songs from Limewire."And how funny is it that Alberto "Habeas Whatsits?" Gonzales is the one pushing this legislation? Man, that guy has never met a computer he didn't wan...

JOHNNY CASH AT FOLSOM PRISONClassics of Classics At Folsom Prison is a live album by Johnny Cash, recorded on January 13, 1968 at Folsom State Prison in Folsom, California. Also on the album are June Carter, Carl Perkins, and Cash's band, the Tennessee Three. The final song, "Greystone Chapel", was written by an inmate, Glen Sherley. Johnny Cash had never sung the song until the night before the Folsom visit. A Reverend asked Cash to listen to an audio tape of Sherley singing the song. After hearing the tape Cash rushed to include the song on the live album the next night. Throughout the album Cash seems to empathize with the plight of the prisoners. The inmates for their part had a great deal of respect for Cash and his works, though some of the sounds from the inmates (cheering and shouting) were actually dubbed in after the recording. On the original LP release, the song order was changed and several songs were cut, probably for space reasons. The version released on CD in 2000...
