Shooting Food Shots at Home. Food Photography
2008-04-01 05:19:00
“Have you ever sat down to a plate of food and thought, “This would make a great photograph”? When the food, setting and lighting all come together, the combination can make for a beautiful scene worth photographing. Some photographers are so inspired by such scenes that shooting food is all they do.
Simply Thai - Food Photography
2008-03-12 02:38:00
I admit that I do not do a lot of food photography. Some say it’s the hardest type of photography there is. Everything is very time sensitive and intense. The photo mus be finished before the lettuce welts and before the ice cream melts… but in the end it’s well worth it. So when Rimagine approached me about doing a food photo-shoot for Simply Thai (a well known Thai restaurant here in Shanghai) I got really excited and wanted to take up the challenge! The photos below were actually taken in 2005, since then I’ve done other food photography with restaurants and products. Stayed tuned on the blog for more, and even possibly a food photography portfolio section… hint hint! Here’s the results from the first shoot: Photographer: Philippe Roy / Rimagine.com Client: Simply Thai Style: Food and Drinks photography Location: Shanghai, China

Photography Tips
2007-09-20 16:00:00
My blogging friend Lucy at An Ordinary Mom suggested a few weeks back that I do a list of photography tips and honestly? The thought terrified me. Mostly because I don't think my photographs are very good and we happen to have a family friend who IS a professional photographer and for me to give out advice on photography has got to make him laugh most heartily. Most heartily. However, I have learned a few things since I began posting pictures a year ago. Maybe the tips I've picked up (and am still trying desperately to master) will help someone else out there. Those these tips work well for most still life shots they're especially applicable for food photography. And who among us doesn't appreciate a good photograph of chocolate cake?1. Have Good Lighting. The number one rule for photography would be lighting. Utilize natural light whenever possible and avoid fluorescent or incandescent light. I take all my photographs near a brightly lit window or outside to take full a...

Food Photography

I like photography. I appreciate real life form, scenery and events captured on lens. But I really love food photography. I wish I had the patience of some of the food bloggers out there. They not only cook well but capture the food beautifully on camera.I wished I could take better photos :) David won't let me use the flash when I take photos at restaurants. He thinks it irritates the other patrons and I guess he is right. So now you know why some of my pictures are so bland :(I've overcome the feeling of being shy about whipping out my camera for anything and everything that happens in my life but I will still try not to bring too much attention to ourselves. I did get this man waving a shaving knife at me when I tried to take a picture of his customer! But I just love taking pictures and I love blogging.Esther was making fun of me the other day at the movies. Seeing that it was my first cinema show in Ningbo, she teased me - she asked if I was going to take a picture of my cinem...

The pictures can be tantalizing. Some even cause us to stop and stare. Join us, for a behind the scenes look at a food photographer and his team as they create sumptuous images out of fresh ingredients that seem to jump off the page. Recipes from the episode: Ed’s Tangy Eggless Caesar Salad; Canning Pears, raw pack; Pear Bread Download Show Director’s Journal We?re surrounded by images through billboards, television, magazines, the internet?the list is long. And since food is a part of everyone?s life, in some form or another, many of those images are about food. Some are blah, some are tantalizing, and some go unnoticed. But the ones that do grab my eye make me wonder and I begin to dissect. Why did they choose that background, who designed the arrangement, how did get that cheese get to look so yummy, and the lighting, how was it lit? These questions lead me wondering exactly what is happening outside of that frame. I visited a food photographer?s studio ...
