Fickle football fans could seal the deal
2008-01-03 12:09:00
We're about to find out just how much faith the Yanks have in Rafa with the transfer window reopening and if they don't back him, I think it's fair to say the writing is well and truly on the wall. The harsh reality is that we're falling too far behind in the title race and the prospect of Rafa not being here next season isn't inconceivable anymore. Winning the champions league might save Rafas skin but if we finish the season too far from the top again (another 20 odd points) then I think it's time to let the man go as I can't see the players having much faith in him at that stage either.Although unpopular with most LFC fans, Mourinhos name continues to be mentioned as a possible replacement and I'm sure the Yanks are aware that if he were to bring success quickly to LFC, then the fickle fans would quickly change their negative opinion of him and them.

Retarded Football Fans Blame Bad Game On Jessica Simpson
2007-12-25 16:27:00
Oh yes, it’s true. Tony Romo suffered in the “worst game of his career” last week, and his fans believe that it is because his new girlfriend, Jessica Simpson, is distracting him. Gee, that’s mature. Not only are they making outrageous claims about her mere presence, they’re also distributing masks of her face. From People: “Jessica ...

Football Fans Enjoy Their Cruise Too!
2007-12-12 04:12:00
Just because your miles out to sea does not mean that you can't get some weekend football in. The bars and lounges on board the Carnival Elation were packed this past Saturday and Sunday with fans rooting on their favorite teams. Saturday was a great day to catch some college action on one of the many TVs in the lounges and bars. And on Sunday the two TVs at the bar at the back of Tiffany's, the buffet restaurant, each had a different game on and there was not an open seat nearby. I mention this because one of the many questions I hear all the time is about catching the big game while on a cruise. When it comes to football the answer is yes you can. We happened to be on a cruise this past February on the Carnival Spirit during the Super Bowl and it was a major event on board as I guess it should be. The theater was turned into a giant living room with couches and a 25 foot screen on stage. Even Football snack foods like wings and subs were set out, like one needs even more ...

The witch hunt of the Rabinists refuses to go off the headlines. Yesterday we had a condemnation of Beitar fans reluctance to respect Rabin's memory's with a moment of silence, responding to the request with boos and slogans in favor of Yigal Amir.Several comments are in place: Football fan yobs is not a phenomenon restricted to Israel, and not restricted to football, for that matter. We recall the recent desecration of two tomb graves in Israel, in protest of the demolition of Usishkin Hall in Tel Aviv. The desecrated tombs were those of Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai's parents, and the desecration included calling him a Nazi. This was reported, of course, but no one suggested to throw HaPoel out of the national league, as is now suggested with Beitar. Not because Rabin is more holier than the Holocaust in Israeli discourse, but simply because HaPoel is a club identified with the labor party, and is therefore exonerated a priori. If only we were all exonerated from hearing about spor...

Today's Useless Fan Survery -- NFL City With The Most Female Football Fans.
2007-09-13 19:25:00
I think this is going to become a semi-regular feature here at the MHR.  Every week it seems there is another ridiculous survey, ranking NFL teams or cities based on some ludicrous research.  This week is no different, with the results of a survery being released that ranked which NFL city had the most female football fans.  The results??? According to a Scarborough Sports Marketing survey of 220,354 residents in 75 United States markets conducted last year, Pittsburgh has, by far, the largest base of NFL fans who are women. Pittsburgh is the runaway leader, with 34 percent of the women living in the Steelers' market identifying themselves as fans. Green Bay was second with 29.4 percent, but no other market surveyed had even one-quarter of its women identify themselves as fans. Buffalo was third with 23.7 percent, followed by Cincinnati (22.8 percent), Kansas City (22.4 percent), Jacksonville (21.7 percent), Baltimore and Boston (21.5 percent) and Denver, Tampa-St...
For Football Fans
2007-08-30 21:29:00
It's finally that time of year again, and I'm sure all football fans are ready for it. LSU is ranked #2 nationally, and kicks off the college season tonight on ESPN against Mississippi State. I'm anxious to see how Flynn will do now that he's finally got the starting job. Geaux Tigers!!Will the Saints go all the way this year? They came oh so close last season. The analysts (I'm not one of them of course) predict just that and say they are for real. Their season starts NEXT Thursday night on NBC against last season's Super Bowl Champs; the Colts. It should be an exciting season. Geaux Saints!!ULL's Ragin Cajuns start the season Saturday against South Carolina. A new quarterback in Desormeaux, new offensive coordinator among others should make for an interesting season. Geaux Cajuns!!I'm not an expert nor am I making predictions, but I do love the game.-Paul

Global warming a net gain for Washington area football fans
2007-05-24 18:54:00
Jerry Jones has the Super Bowl for Dallas Arlington in 2011 thanks in no small part to the lobbying efforts of former Dallas Cowboys' QB Roger Staubach. Hat tip to Dan Steinberg for patrolling the Washington Times for this Dan Daly article on a potential future FedEx Super Bowl bid. Daly reminds that those efforts are likely hampered by the cowardly league's reluctance to schedule a Super Bowl at cold weather (or potentially cold weather) stadiums lacking a dome, and suggests global warming as one of a number of creative solutions to the problem. True, while global warming (and to remain politically neutral this blog allows for an "alleged" caveat, if need be) has net losers, the desertification of Washington D.C., presuming the ocean doesn't swallow us, would present an excellent opportunity to legitimately bid on a Super Bowl. Also The Day After Tomorrow would probably, like, take Miami and Tampa with it, along with some sunny and enviable real estate on the west coast. That re...

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to assist foreign football fans to enter Ukraine
2007-05-05 07:46:00
This was disclosed by Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Andriy Deshchytsia. He reminded of a valid non-visa regime for European citizens. Oncoming negotiations between Ukraine and the EU on simplification of a visa regime will also add to the issue. In this context Andriy Deshchytsia promised to apply all efforts to insure unimpeded migration of Ukrainian fans to Poland for the Euro-2012.

The takeover of Liverpool has resurrected once again left me fretting over the future of the sport which i so dearly love.  it is not worth launching into diatribe against this kind of ownership which i have done in various different mediums at each high profile takeover recently, instead i would merely like to express my dismay at the actions of Liverpool fans regarding this issue. Perhaps second only to us Liverpool fans were the most vociferous in their condemnation of what they saw as Chelsea buying success and yet now the Internet, pubs and newspapers are filled with them boasting of how they can now spend like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.  I have several problems with this that go beyond simple hypocrisy.  The first thing here which grabs the attention of most Arsenal fans is the absurd notion seemingly ingrained in the minds of Liverpool fans and of the media that Liverpool have been a financial David to our Goliath.  The fact is that Liverpool...
Promotion Could Bring Financial Blow To Football Fans

In beating the Robins at Wembley, Hull will join Stoke City and ...
