This has been a wonderful point to complain about for a long time, but Ford decided to bring that to a halt and offer up something that is right on par with the cars available in Europe. Ford Focus RS coming to Europe... but what about US?
2008-06-20 10:57:00 Ford has a rich heritage of performance Foci, Escorts, and other small Fords in Europe. With the new Ford Focus coming to North America in late 2010 (MY 2011), it's a natural question to ask about performance models. The Focus ST is roughly equivalent to a Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliant - except it doesn't have all-wheel drive. The Focus RS is somewhere above that - lots of horsepower but still no all wheel drive - and therefore still under the Evo or STI in overall capabilities. The upcoming Focus RS has only officially been shown in the following picture. However, lots of pictures can be found of it being tested at Nurburgring. Only time will tell if we'll get one or both of these in North America... certification and component costs would be very high for small volume, but they would serve to nicely showcase the new Focus. 2008-04-15 00:16:00 Next-generation Ford Focus to be global car based on C1 platform While its been rumored for sometime now that Ford will eventually bring the Euro-Focus over to the States, we now have official confirmation and even a time frame. Ford's product chief, Derrick Kuzak, made the announcement during the SAE World Congress in Detroit. According to Kuzak, the next-generation Ford Focus will be a global vehicle and will ride on the C1 platform — the same that underpins the current European Ford Focus. Kuzak also says that about 87 percent of the parts for the next-generation car will come from Ford's global parts bin — a move that will reduce costs and further globalize Ford's engineering efforts. The good news is that because the Focus will now be a global car, we could see the hotter Focus RS and ST for sale here in the States. The downside is that the new car isn't slated to make its debut until 2010 or 2011.

Engines remain the same with 1.6 and 2.0 litre petrol engines as well as a 2.0 litre diesel. The convertible roof is also unchanged as an efficient two-piece folding hardtop.The Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is built on Ford's behalf by Pininfarina at their Bairo plant, near Turin in Italy. Despite requests from US drivers it remains only available in Europe.
