Feminist Video Art as Forerunner to Postmodernism
2008-02-14 18:05:00
Administrator's Note: The following essay by Diane Blackwell, current Corcoran College of Art + Design senior and former Theory Now student, focuses on the importance of postmodernist theory on feminist video. Diane?s meticulous research on this topic directs our attention to further discursive analyses by multiple sources, and her passion for feminist video as a unique and continuing movement in contemporary art is skillfully represented in her writing. With great pleasure, I post it here for readers of this site. ?. . . since around 1970, it has been feminist responses and approaches to visual images that have provided some of the strongest, most polemical, and most productive theories and critical strategies to come out of any of the disciplines or modes of analysis associated with visual culture.?(1)Amelia Jones in The Feminism and Visual Culture Reader, 2003.Two events in the 1960s caused a dramatic change in the way art was formulated; one was cultural, the other was techn...

Garmin Forerunner 305 Wrist-Mounted GPS Fitness Computer with Heart Rate Mo

great and most powerful toolI love it. I have it for 2 weeks, did more than 12 workouts (even used it in my car to measure distances - for 80miles driving the difference between the car's odometer and the forerunner was less than a half mile. The watch (or the computer) is great. It has so many advantages than the Polar. For this price is more than perfect. And so far is the best tool on market for running. There are only two disadvantages: the elevation is not accurate at all - so just don't look at it and if you get into deep forest or under bridge for more than 15 sec the forerunner will lose the satellites - then have to slow down or stop for a while to get connected again.Once you get it don't forget to download the firmware updates and upload them in your unit. The Garmin training center software is not the best for analysis but you can use other like SportTracks.I am buying another one for my spouse.Garmin nuviThe Forerunner series provides outdoor athletes and runners with ...

Garmin, maker of one of the most popular GPS, is also in the fitness game with the Garmin Forerunner 50 watch. It's not a GPS; it's a watch that accepts data transmission from a footpod that tracks your movement by sensing the impact of your footsteps. Or, if you prefer, there's a heart rate monitor as well. The data is transferred to your PC via a USB and then analyzed ($106).Shop for designer makeup at 60% saving at http://www.venusandmarz.com

Garmin Forerunner 205 Wrist-Mounted GPS Fitness Computer

Awesome device for marathon runners This is a great device. I was shocked by how well it works and all it can do. I no longer have to run on pre-planned routes to keep track of my mileage. I don't have to worry about pace or distance in races that don't have mile markers. All this information is on the watchface and can be uploaded to my computer and permanently stored at the touch of a button. It also keeps track of calories burned and shows your routes in gps format on the computer. It is extremely user-friendly. The only drawback is the size. I have a small wrist and it is kind of heavy. Definitely worth its weight though. I'm sure Garmin is working on this aspect for future models. If there is a distance runner on your X-mas list--this is the ultimate gift. Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 205. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 205 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 205 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. While the 205 doesn't offer heart rate monitoring, or connectivity with Garmin's wireless speed and cadence sensor -- for that, you'll need to step up to the Forerunner 305 -- but it's a great way to get basic GPS location and performance data.

Garmin Forerunner 50
2007-08-08 21:05:00
Garmin unveiled today an advanced fitness watch which wirelessly synchs with other devices, including PCs, to collect and store fitness data. The Garmin Forerunner 50 is expected this October in several price ranges, with $200 being the highest as it includes several fitness monitoring accessories. The Garmin Forerunner 50 interfaces with fitness monitoring accessories, including a heart rate monitor and foot pod that monitors speed and distance, to wirelessly collect data related to one’s workout. This data can then automatically be wirelessly synched with a nearby PC via a USB stick which connects to the computer. This stick is designed to communicate with the Forerunner 50 without wires when in close proximity. (more…)
Garmin introduces Forerunner 50 sport watch
2007-08-08 17:59:00
Filed under: Wearables, Wireless Garmin's Forerunner sport watches haven't always been the most wearable, but the company has been making steady progress in that department, and it now looks to have produced its most watch-like device yet. Helping in no small part to keep the size of its new Forerunner 50 watch down is the lack of GPS found in previous models, but it will still provide a fair bit of functionality, and it'll wirelessly interface with a heart rate monitor or "foot pod" to monitor your speed, distance, and other vitals. When you're done with your workout, the various devices will also automatically sync up with Garmin's USB ANT Stick (Bluetooth, we presume), which will let you log and share your information on Garmin's online training site. A number of different bundles are set to be available this October, including one with just the heart rate monitor for $99, one with the foot pod for $149, and one with both devices for $199.  Read | Permalink |...

Configuration of Forerunner 305
2007-03-18 21:32:00
Hi, I like very much customization option in Forerunner 305. It is easy to setup, you can choose from one to four values on screen and each is configurable. All profile or standard parameters can be choose as value. Check on picture how I organize three screens that are available for configuration. Also other features are very useful like Auto pause, Auto lap etc. After two runs I’m very satisfied with accuracy, it is between 5-9m, don’t expect centimeters :-).  It is easy to link route/run with Garmin maps or Google Earth. Virtual partner is great feature, you are running against your best time on course. It can motivate you after many runs on same courses.
