RSA DLP Suite Riding the Forrester Wave™
2008-06-06 19:22:00
So the weekend is approaching and you decide to go to the movies. If you are like me, you probably check your trusted source for movie reviews and then think twice about going if the review is less than favorable. In the IT industry, the opinions of Forrester and other lead analysts carry even greater weight in the eyes of customers than Siskel and Ebert in their heyday. So, we are very pleased indeed to see the June 2008 Forrester Wave™: Data Leak Prevention, Q2 2008 which cited RSA as a leader in the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) product category with our RSA DLP Suite. Some highlights from the report include...
Forrester?s 5 reasons to upgrade to Windows Vista now
2008-04-21 23:51:00
4sysops – For Windows Administrators – NETWORKWORLD has an interesting article about a new study from Forrester. In a document for ?only? $279, Forrester analyst Benjamin Gray recommends not to skip Vista. I didn?t read the study myself because I usually don?t buy papers with unknown length for $279 even if it is from a well-known research company. So I can only rely on what NETWORKWORLD wrote about it. Here are the five arguments that speak for upgrading to Vista in your organization according to Forrester: Switching thousands of users from Windows to another platform (Mac OS, Linux) is not a workable solution for the majority of companies. ... read more

Research by Forester Research - Reported by Computer World The "Getting Work Done in Virtual Worlds" report released by the IT research firm this week concludes that executives should begin investigating and experimenting with virtual worlds soon because of their promise for remote collaboration, training and the ability to build and share 3-D models. The report said that today's collaboration tools offer far more limited benefits to companies. For example, the inability to see the gestures of fellow meeting goers causes problems for attendees in different offices, the report noted. In a virtual world, people can have their name, job title and business unit associated with an avatar that can attend meetings and have access to virtual buildings, rooms, equipment and people, Forrester said. The avatar is controlled by information in an enterprise directory and access control system, it said. Read all of the analysis here: Computer World
First January signing: Harry Forrester
2008-01-08 08:57:00
He came from Watford in July last year (http://www.avfcblog.com/conten-t/view/1794/70/), we've paid quite a large sum in compensation and yesterday he signed his first professional contract. Harry Forrester might be older than Wayne Rooney when he made his Premier League debut but all the talk from the club is positive and if we believe all the talk he'll be the next big thing.

Forrester Research Not Following Their Own Recommendations When It Comes To
2007-12-07 05:32:00
In an episode that many are calling ironic, Forrester Research has sent out letters to affected employees that a laptop computer stolen from one of their employees contained private employee information?and, one would assume, that the device was not encrypted.  Current as well as past employees are affected, and the data that could potentially fall into the wrong hands include names, addresses, and Social Security numbers.  As is the case in such announcements, it was pointed out that the hard drive is protected via a password, but there was no mention of encryption, leading one to believe that there wasn?t any.  Also, it sounds like there was no mention of there being other safeguards or ?technologies? on that laptop either, unlike the Memorial Blood Centers announcement from yesterday.  Could it be that the person sending out the letters made a gaffe?  Perhaps.  Forrester?s CPO?Chief People Officer?sent out the letter informing of the potential data ...

Great Ad!...What was it for again?
2007-09-17 01:31:00
TV ads have become so theatrical, production value is so much higher than in past decades, that they often overshadow the very products and brands they are suppose to promote. I find many ads entertaining, funny, and very well made. However, are they doing their job? To be sure, there are many that do a great job of making the product/brand central, Aflac comes to mind as a recent home run. Of course what is the option? With these traditional ads being blocked more and more, it is almost a must to make our ads so entertaining or note-worthy that people will look for them on the DVR or YouTube! Today, 15% of consumers say that they use technology to skip TV ads ? more than three times as many as in 2004. This behavior will continue to spread ? Forrester projects that more than 50% of US households will use a DVR by 2010. (Forrester 2006) On line video ads are not the silver bullet either: My take aways are simple: Make your ads as entertaining as possi...

The ROI of Website Redesigns per Forrester
2007-08-21 13:32:00
Forrester Research makes a collection of its past webcasts on various online marketing topics freely available (registration required). I recently checked out one of their presentations from about a year ago titled "The ROI of Web Site Redesigns Made Simple" by Harley Manning and Jeffrey North. Like any presentation from one of the big analyst firms, the research focuses on very large companies, and is vertically unfocused (in this webcast, they divided websites into three groups: e-commerce, manufacturing [including B2B] and financial services), but still provides some nuggets of value for smaller organizations.Forrester's key findings from their website redesign research: By Forrester's standards, 97% of business websites fail to earn a passing grade for usability. Among the biggest sins—79% fail at basic legibility (adequate font size and contrast with background). They cite the New York Times website as the gold standard for legibility (not logic, truth or common sense mind ...
