Urlacher Injury Forces Bears to Step Up, Look Forward
2009-09-15 03:41:00 It was difficult dragging myself out of bed Monday morning. Mondays are rough to begin with,Brian Urlacher is out for the season. but a Monday after a loss is even more challenging. A Monday after a loss to the hated Packers is almost grounds for a sick day. Not me, I'm a team player. I brought myself in and tried to paste a phony smile on my face. Then the news broke on my e-mail: Urlacher out for the season. GASP! Say it ain't so, Joe. So what are the Bears supposed to do? Derrick Brooks? Zach Thomas? Too old, too slow. Call off the season? Um, not an option. No one is going to feel sorry for the Bears. ...
VAWT Project Fights Its Way Forward
2009-09-09 16:50:00 My latest problem has to do with my do-it-yourself stator (need I reprise my last "thread" here?). I have the rotors on the permanent magnet, three phase, alternator built, as do I have the stator. The stator, though, came out too thick - the result of my mold having warped and let the fibreglass re

Two Basketball Documentaries To Look Forward To
2009-08-26 20:05:00 In these dull days of the NBA off-season, we find ourselves looking for basketball related entertainment, but usually can't find a thing. Well, at least there's two upcoming basketball documentaries to wait for.Devin Green: The JourneyThis is actually already out. It is being released through YouTube and there are already three episodes available (I hear the fourth is coming early tomorrow morning). More episodes will be added as things move along. I've already watched an episode and it's a great look inside what the business side of basketball can be like. Not everyone has an easy ride like Kobe or LeBron. Here are the first, second and third episodes also. Look for more on this as it continues on.This other documentary was announced a while back, but I wanted to give it a mention anyway:SonicgateIf you didn't watch the video, this one is about the Sonics leaving Seattle. It's about all the rough stuff that went down between the new ownership and the city of Seattle. It looks r...
The possibility of Deng at power forward
2009-08-20 06:19:00 For the purposes of this post, I'm going to go ahead and say that the Bulls best five players are Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich, John Salmons, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah (albeit not necessarily in that order). I don't think this is too outlandish of a statement, and if we can all agree on that, then the following blurb will make more sense. It's almost never a bad idea to get your five best players on the floor at the same time. You never want to make your depth chart too wonky; ideally, your depth covers all positions and all matchups, with no highly exposable weaknesses and a modicum of talent to be found at every position. As any...

Free Agent Forward Ike Diogu Signed by New Orleans Hornets
2009-07-30 20:56:00 Ike Diogu in Hornets uniform photoshopped by user "iDunk"at the InsideHoops.com Forum. After the recent Emeka Okafor-Tyson Chandler trade the New Orleans Hornets did with the Charlotte Bobcats, they have added furthermore to their talented squad after adding free agent power forward Ike Diogu.Terms of the contract were not disclosed.Diogu played for the Indiana Pacers for most of his career, but before the 2008-09 NBA season started, he was traded to the Portland Trailblazers. He also played for the Sacramento Kings during that season as well. He averaged about four points and two rebounds per game last year. His last two games of the season with the Kings were very impressive, though, having 32 points in one game and 28 in the other.Diogu is very undersized for his position at power forward/center as he is 6'8".Here's what ESPN's John Hollinger says of him:Diogu is undersized for a power forward at 6-foot-8, and that combined with average mobility make him a liability at the defen...
Without Hossa, Skille has chance to step forward
2009-07-24 17:58:00 Now that the Blackhawks have lost 148 points from their offense, I hope that doesn't cause goaltender Cristobal Huet to look over his shoulder the first two months of the season to see if Nikolai Khabibulin might be replacing him soon. Huet might get a terrible neck ache looking backward, which would make long-time trainer Mike Gapski and veteran massage therapist Pawel Prylinski the true keys to October and November. If that's true, woe is we. And we is screwed. I know. Doom and gloom and all done with bad grammar. Nothing worse than a tongue-twisted pessimist. What's the big deal, the merrymakers say? The Hawks really don't need Marian Hossa until April, 2010, quit the whining. I have...

FACEBOOK jumbs wide forward !????? ??? ? ???? ????? ???? ??????
2009-06-11 10:26:00 FACEBOOK jumbs wide forward by making search in Facebook more easier and helpful. From the beginning of Facebook, people have used their real names to share and connect with the people they know. This authenticity helps to create a trusted environment because you know the identity of the people and things on Facebook. The one place, though, where your identity wasn't reflected was in the Web address for your profile or the Facebook Pages you administer. The URL was just a randomly assigned number like "id=592952074." That soon will change. They're planning to offer Facebook usernames to make it easier for people to find and connect with you. When your friends, family members or co-workers visit your profile or Pages on Facebook, they will be able to enter your username as part of the URL in their browser. This way people will have an easy-to-remember way to find you. We expect to offer even more ways to use your Facebook username in the future.Your new Facebook URL is like your pers...
Apple's Snow Leopard Leaping Forward At Lighting Speed
2009-06-09 01:15:00 The Snow Leopard Operating System's video was taken down from YoutTube by Apple preventing folks like us getting an advance peek under the hood. However, since this new operating system is being premiered at Apple's WWCD June 8-12 in San Francisco, we were able to retrieve some first-hand reports from the Confab and surface a video by APPLEBuzz. The insights I uncovered will show you what makes Apple's new OS purr like a domestic kitten and race like a wild cat.
Conflicted GM drives the electric evolution forward
2009-06-07 17:55:00 There is a good article on MSNBC http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/311-46562/ about the Chevrolet Volt and how conflicted GM is about building it. While they are 100% committed to doing so, they continue to worry about its acceptance in the marketplace and about the financial viability of building an all-new product which will not and cannot be profitable - yet. Only a very small portion of the car buying public will consider a Volt and this will not cover costs, much less any profit. And the Federal Government green subsidiary of $7500 per car (tax refund after the initial purchase price of approx. $40,000) does not tilt the equation. Lutz points out that the car needs to be $15-20,000 less to work - but those prices will come down as the technology gets better and production rises. As an aside, Lutz also points out that they have been concerned that the Camaro is the wrong car at the wrong time - certainly the liberals at the Obama administration...

Green Dwell Home II Moving Forward
2009-04-08 06:43:00 The latest Dwell has an article by Geoff Manaugh on the Dwell Home II. After four years in "home design and permitting," homeowners Glen Martin and Claudia Plasencia have broken ground. They're moving forward with construction. The homeowners are building this design from Escher GuneWardena Architecture, which they chose because sustainability was presented as "an integrated system," as opposed to as an afterthought. Here are a few of the home's green elements: Abundant natural light with 360-degree wraparound veranda; Optimized site exposure for winter and summer sun; Backyard leach field without a city sewage connection; Roof with greenery, solar, solar thermal, and hydronic roof radiators; Facade holes that naturally ventilate the underbelly of the home; and Movable and fixed shade devices that provide privacy and ventilation. When you get your copy of Dwell in May, you may notice slightly different renderings. The newest renderings have a larger rooftop ...

Infinity Moving Forward with Diesel-Hybrid Essence Concept
2009-03-10 13:59:00 Since the beginning of the Hybrid race, most of the focus has been put on gasoline electrics and finding ways to improve them. Others have also been researched but many of them, for the most part, have remained out of the spotlight. One such example is the diesel hybrid drivetrain. While some have discussed its feasibility, most pass right over it and move to something else. Thankfully, Infinity has decided to design their own diesel electric hybrid and hopefully move it into production.
Springing forward
2009-03-08 15:30:00 It should be no surprise to anyone in the business of selling anything nowadays that sales cycles are being lengthened by our poor economy. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just spring forward to the point that our prospects were actually ready to buy? And without losing an hour of sleep? Well, it doesn’t work that way. It’s taking everyone a little longer nowadays to close business and it seems that instead of complaining about it, we should consider ways that we can use this extra lag time to our advantage. A couple of sales people pushing an Internet marketing solution came into our office the other day. They didn’t have an appointment; apparently they were walking the building and introducing themselves. They asked if we might be interested in purchasing said marketing solution. I told them that I was familiar with their solution and that several of our clients use it. I let them know that we were not interested as of this point, but that since our busines...

Nightly Ramble:The “Boy Am I Looking Forward to Spring”edition
2009-03-06 22:05:00 Welcome, one and all to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the sphere… The Bigsblog Nightly Ramble This is the “Boy am I looking forward to spring” edition. It’s getting warmer around here. It started this morning above 50 degrees, and there’s a smell of spring in the air. In just a few weeks, now, I’ll be bringing our camper home from storage and setting it up for the season. I’ll admit to having a decent case of cabin fever going. The law student speaks: Go and read this from Boortz. Did you read it? Good. My reaction: The letter he posts makes a great deal of sense, but ignores the point that we’re already physically seperated to a larger degree than many want to acknowledge. Take a look at the foreclosure rates, and the unemployment rates. Where those rates are the highest is where leftists dominate. Think anyone will notice? When even his supporters see it: Glenn says today: Paul Krugman says Obama’s killing the Do...

China Marches Forward with Gigantic Military Spending Increase for 2009: D
2009-03-04 18:24:00 The entire globe is experiencing an economic meltdown, from the super-powers down to the little guys. Suddenly, China announces a double-digit increase in its military spending. Does this sound ominous to anyone besides me? To put it in perspective, China's military spending is still small compared to, um, the U.S. But still. China has been bold about moving rapidly ahead in its defense spending. Perhaps it is playing catch-up with the Western world. Perhaps it has big plans. Perhaps this increase is all part of their economic stimulus package.Apparently, I am not alone in speculating about this determination on the part of the Chinese. Japan, India, Australia, and Vietnam have all expressed concerns about a more powerful China. Surely Taiwan is quaking in its boots at this development, too.China's defense budget to grow 14.9 % in 2009, Xinhua, ChinaChina announces double-digit military spending boost, The Guardian, UKChina boosts military spending, Voice of America

Looking forward
2009-01-18 15:37:00 When Bank of America bought Merrill Lynch, did you stop in your tracks and say, "the biggest, strongest, smartest bank just became another broken, senseless, robbing institution which will only hasten the collapse of our current style of government and living". Well I did and I don't need to tell you, if we still have 1 1/2 more years of topsie turvie downward spiral, and this is taking place today. well, the carpet is about to be swept clean so to speak. And another thing. now that the banks and other typical institutions have received the first second and third round of "bail-outs" and seem to have spent it all, yes all on bonus money. As we sit and watch this unfold, how can I not believe that this is anything but the largest heist in modern day history.I believe we will pull out of this, I don't think it will make us stronger, but I am sure it will make us different.(back to paying my bills, which I'm o.k. with.)BrianCopyright 2006. My trading plan going forward is to ...
2008-12-11 17:13:00 Finally intra-week weakness. The STI closed lower than open. It is time for the retracement to happen. However as it is Friday tomorrow, if it closed too ugly, well, the bullish rally may be over. Friday night will have alot of data coming out from the US. It may become a reason to sell down. Asia closing may provide clue. For now, i will initiate a short position first if the market is weak tomorrow. STI is hitting into 50-day resistance. We have yet cross the all important 1917 level. If the pull back is shallow, it means it's a healthy retracement. But of course we need to study the broadbase market and see are they trading at support or resistance. These are important clues. The XPertTrader rule i'm using to screen for this important clue is the volume rule i created since 2006. I used to call it the sentiment screen back in those days.I seen a big jump in blog visitors since i returned to active sharing. One Scary Step Forward
2008-11-07 22:41:00 The next sentence is going to hold some information that will surprise you. I have not seen a psychiatrist since 1994, and I have never been in therapy.I know. Let that sink in for a moment. That seems preposterous even to me after all the writing I have done about living with anxiety and depression. I may be on medication right now for anxiety and depression, but this medication has been prescribed by doctors at community clinics for the last fourteen years after I had a run of bad experiences with three different psychiatrists in the early 1990s. This is not a route I would recommend. General practitioners are not trained to have expertise specific to mental illness, and although I have been able to remain somewhat even keel with their prescription help, they have done nothing beyond blindly fiddling with pharmaceuticals. Not only is this not the best alternative trained psychiatric treatment, but it is also not the safest, physically or mentally. At the beginning of August, ...

I’m So Looking Forward to November 5th
2008-10-27 16:44:00 I resisted writing this here, as I didn’t really want my very first post after a month of silence to be a rant. However, it’s my blog, dammit, so I’m going to do it anyway. Warning: no humor here! This started as a comment on a friend’s blog. Don’t ever let it be said that I’m not famous for repeating myself (over and over.) Last week, I received an email from one of my best friends from college. It was a copied and pasted, forwarded political rant, based on — oh, how shall I put this — internet-rumor-hate-mongering-x-enophobic bullshit, designed to prey upon people’s most basic fears. My issue with my friend is not about her choice of candidate. This kind of crap does not discriminate by party. Everyone gets a vote, and I am always curious to hear and understand opinions and points of view, particularly if they differ from my own. I get frustrated when people fall prey to and base their opinions on either party’s campaign ...
Ghosting It Forward - Pay It Forward for Ann Arbor Neighbors/Friends before

In the spirit of "paying it forward", everyone needs more positive touches in their life. In our current world filled with constant negative news, Ghosting It Forward is an effort to spread some positive touches to neighbors locally or friends virtually. Whether it is an anonymous note of thanks to your neighbor, a bunch of flowers, a bar of chocolate, an inspirational book or movie, or just a smiley face, Ghosting It Forward will energize people who send and receive the positive touches. To join us in "Ghosting It Forward". I have done this before in Ann Arbor, Michigan and watched the delight in the recipients face; just find instructions and you can get started "Ghosting It Forward". No tricks, just all Good Treats.
Forward Into The Repug Past
2008-10-14 20:41:00 I think that, unintentionally of course, David Brooks did us a favor in his New York Times column today (here). Not because he actually provided a reasonably intelligent analysis of the issues we currently face and how the two individuals running for president would address them (hey, this is BoBo, remember?). And not because he decided to view the state of things generally with his eyes wide open, casting aside for the moment the prism of conservative dogma through which he interprets just about everything. No, I think Brooks? real contribution here is the fact that he gives us a glimpse of the right-wing strategy (if you can call it that) for at least the next four years. Don?t worry, though; there?s really not much to see because it?s merely a sequel of the bad ?movie? we had to endure in the 1990s.You see, BoBo is preparing for the very real likelihood that Barack Obama is going to win this presidential election and the Democrats will build on their congressional majorities. I say...
