Allegations of "Elitism" Also Brought Down America's Founding Fathers
2008-04-22 10:57:00 by Walter C. Uhler For the first 50 minutes of last night's presidential debate between Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama, ABC's moderators, George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson, gratuitously blowtorched Senator Barack Obama with four trivial, but calumnious, questions that seemed to have nothing other than character assassination as their objective - largely through guilt by association. Yes, notwithstanding the many serious problems afflicting "Bushed" America, we got four nit-picking calumnious questions: (1) Did Obama's characterization of working-class voters as "bitter" indicate he's an out-of-touch elitist? (2) Does Obama believe in the American flag? (After all, he seldom wears an American flag pin.) (3) Can you tell us again, Senator Obama about your ties to the Rev. Wright we know from four controversial out-of-context quotes? And, thanks to question allegedly supplied to former Clinton administration spokesman Step...
Rev Wright Going Nuts Again About Fox News, Founding Fathers...
2008-04-13 22:44:00 Gateway Pundit has all the details on this. Heres a run down of some of the things Rev Wright said this past Saturday:"Thomas Jefferson, who partook in ?pedophilia,? would also be considered unpatriotic these days...""America?s founding fathers ?planted slavery and white supremacy in the DNA of this republic,??Fox News can?t understand that. [Bill] O?Reilly will never get that. Sean Hannity?s stupid fantasy will keep him forever stuck on stupid."

2008-03-25 23:51:00 Today the Supreme Court ruled in MEDELLIN v. TEXAS that Texas (and all the other states) do not need not provide new hearings to Mexican citizens on death row who were not told they could obtain consular help when arrested, as is required by the “Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (Vienna Convention or Convention).” Here’s the ...

Obama?s Post-Partisanship and the Founding Fathers
2008-01-20 01:45:00 I suspect that Obama critics pay far more attention to Obama’s “post-partisan” message than Obama supporters themselves. Personally I have no illusions that partisanship will end should Obama get elected, and to some degree that might not even be desirable. What is disturbing is that partisanship has increased to an unhealthy degree with many Washington ...

How the Founding Fathers Would View the Republican Attacks on Secularism
2007-12-31 19:18:00 The previous post looks at how Mike Huckabee would use the powers of government to impose his religious views. I’ve also noted multiple time the contradiction between Ron Paul’s claims to be a strict defender of the Constitution while he denies the importance of separation of church and state. Mitt Romney has also demonstrated a ...

Founding Fathers Knew What They were Doing
2007-11-08 17:03:00 This is a great letter to the editor responding to a ridiculous idea: The right to bear arms should be limited to 18th century firearms. Our Founding Fathers, however, were not daft. They had experienced life under an oppressive government and they understood quite well that in order for a people to be ...
Paul Blasts Rangel Tax Plan: The founding fathers never saw taxation as a m
2007-11-07 02:47:00 The following is a statement from Representative Ron Paul: Representative Charles Rangel?s recently announced plan to address the impending Alternative Minimum Tax?s application to middle-class Americans demonstrates limited economic understanding. The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) began in the late 1960's because 155 wealthy taxpayers had become savvy enough with loopholes that they managed to avoid income taxes altogether. Very few Americans avoided taxes completely this way, nonetheless, policy was enacted that now threatens 25 million Americans. Rangel's plan boasts loudly about repealing the AMT, but under the Democrats? pay-as-you-go rules, actual tax cuts are not allowed. Congress must replace any tax revenue reduction with an increase somewhere else, and of course, there are no rules preventing tax hikes. Thus, a new 4% surtax on incomes over $150,000 for singles and $200,000 for couples is proposed to "pay for" the estimated lost revenue. This simultaneously rais...
The founding fathers on 21st century America
2007-07-14 05:55:00 Can you imagine Thomas Jefferson, George Washington or John Adams in meetings with our representatives today? Or what would happen to them if they were to run for office? I've often wondered what our founding fathers would say if they were alive today. The more I read of their writings, however, the more I think their general commentary would be, "I told you so." This, however, might also reflect their general sentiments:Thanks for the laugh, Ogre.

Our Founding Fathers Saw This Coming
2007-06-24 20:08:00 Reading through the Federalist papers (which isn't a bad idea in this age of wavering checks and balances and over-reaching executives) and found this great bit from Mr. Twenty Dollar Bill. I thought it a great way to put the stubborn opposition we are seeing from the disorganized ranks of what's left of the Right;Men often oppose a thing, merely because they have had no agency in planning it, or because it may have been planned by those whom they dislike. But if they have been consulted, and have happened to disapprove, opposition then becomes, in their estimation, an indispensable duty of self-love. They seem to think themselves bound in honor, and by all the motives of personal infallibility, to defeat the success of what has been resolved upon contrary to their sentiments. Men of upright, benevolent tempers have too many opportunities of remarking, with horror, to what desperate lengths this disposition is sometimes carried, and how often the great interests of society are sa...
