Frank Thomas Hits a Triple!!!
2008-05-02 14:31:00
Frank Thomas Hits a Triple!!! On April 28th 2008, in just his fifth game after being released, the Big Hurt did the unthinkable. He hit a triple. Yes, a triple! I’ve put Thomas’ career triple mark to the test below, now its time to “round the bases”.

Frank Thomas Rumors
2008-04-23 23:14:00
9:12pm: Brown says Thomas was close with the A's, but another team jumped in with an offer.  So he's considering two offers currently.  That mystery team is not Ron Gardenhire's Twins. 6:49pm: There are not quite 100% but legit-sounding stories bouncing around about the A's signing Thomas.  One is from WWWT Radio in Washington D.C. via Baseball Digest Daily; another is a now-defunct post from Yahoo's Tim Brown via RotoWorld. 8:17am: When we last checked in on Frank Thomas, the A's admitted they'd have an internal discussion about him.  Today, Buster Olney writes that the A's will have that talk within 48 hours.  They may prefer Thomas to Mike Sweeney.  Manager Bob Geren won't comment on the situation. Meanwhile Hank Steinbrenner says the Yankees have "never even talked about" signing Thomas.  He's not a good fit for their team.  The Yanks still owe Jason Giambi more than $23MM this year.
Frank Thomas = Pass
2008-04-22 17:32:00
There has been some chatter online on various forums and blogs amongst fans about the possibility of acquiring slugger Frank Thomas. As most of us fans know already, he was released Sunday by the Blue Jays due to his unhappiness with being a part-time player, and lashing out at Toronto management. Being that he?s available, Oriole fans wonder if he could very well compliment a lineup that lacks a significant power threat, aside from possibly Nick Markakis. However, as much I and many in Birdland are intrigued by his power and his lofty career numbers ? I?ll pass on him. He might have made for a good, affordable signing circa 2005; however, we have basically two DH?s now with Kevin Millar and Aubrey Huff. As much as I know in my mind, he could easily outslug both of them, even as he is going into his 19th year in the majors, Baltimore does not need him. Read the rest of this entry »
Further Examining the Frank Thomas Situation
2008-04-22 00:30:00
by Scott WeberSince the release of Frank Thomas, the league has been buzzing about where the aging future HOF?er will end up. Texas? Tampa Bay? Seattle? With Seattle once seen (still?) as the main suitor for Barry Bonds in the DH spot, Frank Thomas seems to be the next logical step. He?s been a solid character his entire career (minus a few front office scuffles), he is one of the few sluggers to make it out of the steroid era unscathed and un-accused, and now he?s available. Seems like a slam dunk, right? Wrong.Thomas was an elite player. Now, he is a serviceable one, but no longer has the impact on a lineup he once had. Truly, he remains one of the most iconic baseball players in this era, but he comes with a large amount of question marks. His constant battles with the front office in Toronto are well-documented, eventually ending in his outright release instead of a demotion to the bench, or platoon. That has to be something Bavasi and Armstrong are wary of, despite his history....

Frank Thomas Suitors
2008-04-21 10:36:00
The Blue Jays are on the hook for the rest of Frank Thomas' salary this year, making him a fine bargain for a team looking for a DH.  It seems that the signing team will not be liable for his 2009 vesting option.  As an injury-prone DH with clubhouse concerns, Thomas has similarities to Barry Bonds.  The Big Hurt will come more cheaply, offering less production but no steroid baggage.  As far as suitors: Mariners GM Bill Bavasi will talk to his scouts about Thomas.  Question for Mariners fans: does Thomas offer more at DH than Jeff Clement, who is raking at Triple A? Rangers GM Jon Daniels didn't rule Thomas out but seems to be leaning away from it.  The Rangers have plenty of DHs on hand already.    The A's will at least have an internal discussion about Thomas, but they aren't tipping their hand.  Rays manager Joe Maddon was noncommital when asked about Thomas.  They did just add Dan Johnson. Could the Mets follow suit and rel...
Frank Thomas Released
2008-04-21 07:15:00
In a bold decision, the Blue Jays have waived the Big Hurt. Thomas swatted 26 homeruns with 95 RBI last season, and at one point had a 4-game stretch with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI earlier this season. Regardless, the Blue Jays no longer saw Frank Thomas as an everyday player, and when he refused to buy into their plan, it became in their best interest to waive the 39-year old future Hall of Famer. Thomas...
Would Rays have interest in Frank Thomas?

Frank Thomas was unhappy when the Blue Jays told him his playing time would be cut back so the team let him go. Could the slugging DH be a fit for the young Rays? Ted Fleming of Rays Digest reports from Tropicana Field. Read the full story.
Blue Jays release slumping DH Frank Thomas
2008-04-20 18:38:00
The Toronto Blue Jays released slumping designated hitter Frank Thomas Sunday, cutting the 19-year veteran loose one day after he was angry for being taken out of the lineup. General manager J.P. Ricciardi said he and Thomas came to “a mutual agreement” after meeting in the clubhouse early Sunday. “Our best opportunity is to put other guys ...
ESPN Reports Frank Thomas Released By Jays
2008-04-20 12:31:00
According to ESPN, Frank Thomas has been released from the Toronto Blue Jays. The DH was said to be furious after being benched in the favor of Matt Stairs the other night. Manager John Gibbons stood by his decision due to Thomas' sub par performance so far this season. Thomas didn't agree, saying before a recent game, ?I?m angry, I know I can help this team. My career isn?t going to end like this."Well, at least he was right. Thomas, who is 39-years old, is almost certain to be scooped up by an AL team.Don't drop him just yet. On the other hand, don't rush to pick him up yet either. Let's see where he turns up.The fact Thomas is just 4-for-35 recently and hasn't recorded a hit in 13 at bats along with his contract, may hinder teams from jumping to the phone. He does still have power potential, and a new team can give Thomas the career closure he deserves. We'll keep you posted.
Frank Thomas Released
2008-04-20 11:48:00
11:10am:  While I was writing the below, Frank Thomas was released.  That was fast.  I would expect the Jays to call up Adam Lind.  They've lost a big chunk of run production, so they should be looking for a new DH.  Barry Bonds?  As for Thomas, I think there will be a lot of interest.  My immediate thought is the Rays, which could come back to bite the Jays.  Better suggestions? 9:48am: More drama coming out of the Blue Jays clubhouse as Frank Thomas has been benched indefinitely, sparking rumors of his potential release.  Last night, the Big Hurt was keeping the bench warm in favor of Matt Stairs at DH.  Even when Shannon Stewart was scratched in left field, Joe Inglett was slotted into left instead of moving Stairs there and plugging the slumping Thomas into the lineup.  Reports Richard Griffin of the Toronto Sun, GM J.P. Ricciardi said this move (benching Thomas for Joe Inglett) was "just putting out what we think is our be...
Frank Thomas (DH-TOR)
2008-04-20 05:57:00
Thomas was on the bench for Saturday's game against Detroit and according to manager John Gibbons it is not just a one-game situation. He has gotten off to a normal slow start, hitting just .167 with three home runs and 11 RBI. April is the only month during his long career that Thomas has failed to compile a .300 plus average. Fanatsy owners should look for other options and Thomas is a great buy-low candidate.

Frank Thomas, Big 2008 Sleeper?

Frank Thomas passes Eddie Murray on career list with 505th career home run
2007-08-04 20:27:00
Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Frank Thomas homered in his first two at bats Saturday, giving him 505 for his career and moving him past Eddie Murray into sole possession of 20th place on baseball’s career list. Frank Thomas Hits Homer Number 500 [David Stefanini]
2007-06-29 15:47:00
Frank Thomas hit his 500th career home run the right way... or so he says. He became the 21st player in MLB history to reach this historic milestone. He was already well on his way to being a Hall of Famer, but this cemented his place. Now there is no doubt he will get in on the first ballot. Thomas has been a feared hitter for more than a decade and it is nice to see him get to this milestone. There was a time this year I thought ARod would be the first one to get to 500, but Thomas beat him. It's great to see a guy who has carried himself in such a professional way get to such an elite club. Thomas also may have become the first player to hit career home run #500 and get ejected in the same game. Thomas was thrown out after arguing a called 3rd strike in the 9th inning. Way to go Franky! Here is the video of this historic home run:http://img68.imageshack.us/-my.php?image=amerlegendslogo5wj-.gif

What a night!!! Two future Hall-of-Famers entered the record books last night.  One, a feisty, grind it out player, while the other, a monster masher with his bat.  Each has taken a different road, but eventually their roads will cross when they enter the Hall-of-Fame when their historic careers are finally over. Last night in dramatic ...
Griffey moves past McGwire in homers; Frank Thomas conquers 500 HR mark
2007-06-29 06:08:00
Quietly Ken Griffy moved past Mark McGwire last week.  Grif now sits 16 dingers shy of 600.   He maintained the same slender athletic physique over his entire MLB career unlike that other fellow who knocked out #600 for the Rangers last week, or even the guy who hits homers in San Francisco.  You know the two who either once, or now, look bloated. Hal Brodley at USA Today writes about Griffey, who demands natural respect in a day of unnatural achievement. While Barry Bonds approaches Hank Aaron's career home run record and Sammy Sosa celebrates No. 600, both under the dark clouds of steroid allegations, Junior Griffey is refreshing. There's never been a hint he's used performance-enhancing chemicals. And maybe because of that he gets little attention these days — or appreciation — for his accomplishments and great talent. He entered Thursday night 16 homers shy of 600 and you have to wonder where he'd be if injuries hadn't kept him out of 435 games d...

Undervalued Player Alert - Frank Thomas #13 Hitter
2007-03-08 16:37:02
Many fantasy baseball sites are saying how unlikely it is for Frank Thomas to repeat his 2006 season, how he is being drafted too high. I disagree completely with these people. Frank Thomas is an amazing baseball player and a darn good fantasy player. While Thomas is 39 years old, we still think he has enough gas left in the tank for him to be one of the best values of the draft in Round 9 or 10 of a 12-team draft. The first thing we'll talk about is his incredible power. He hit 39 Home Runs and 37 True Home Runs last year. He will probably get fewer At-Bats this year, so we have him down for 29 True Home Runs. Strangely enough he only hit 12 Doubles last year, the only red flag we see for him. These tend to be a subjective stat, but 12 isn't a lot even considering this fact. Despite this, we still think he will be a good power option. He's hitting in the heart of a good lineup, with good hitters in front and behind. His RBI numbers should be good.Thomas is actually a deceptively ...
