He follows in a long line of great Portuguese guitar players. I was lucky enough to catch up Fred at this summers Monkeyfest organised by Rob Chappers. It was clear to me that Fred has a lot to offer with his experience playing live and as a session player. He is just a well of information, with a million anecdotes to share... and boy does he know his guitar players! Fred started out by studying to be a classical piano, but was moved to take up guitar at the age of 15. The main reason for this change of direction was the squealing solos of former Ozzy Osborne Zakk Wylde. After a lot of experimentation, here's the proto for what is to become my sig guitar (fear not, no tacky Fred logos and the like anywhere). Another close collaboration with Jaden brought forth this fantastic instrument, of which you'll see example #2 at NAMM. :) This is a playthrough of my song Retribution, with all guitar parts re-recorded using the proto and nearly no post-processing. Everything went through the Eleven Rack into Reaper. Also features a botched finger which I managed to slice open with a X-acto knife yesterday. Nice way to celebrate a NGD... excuse the odd faces here and there, but my already hideous guitar faces are composed by some painful moments. Rob was a star to accept the invitation to record a solo and, in my opinion, he totally nailed it! 2011-10-06 22:03:00 Fred Brum After showcasing a more metal side of my Strandberg #6, I thought it would be interesting to show how a couple of my main guitars behave sonically, namely my Jaden Rose JHM (mahogany / maple) and my Jaden Rose Original Series 7 (also mahogany / maple), playing my track Atonement. The JHM is fitted with my usual DiMarzio Air Norton 7 / ToneZone 7 combo, while the Original series has a Crunchlab + Liquifire combo. You know, the same original I paid from my money to produce, which has CD's printed via my money, and copyright (I believe the name is self-explanatory) I paid for myself, not to mention the very long hours of work I did myself. There are no corporate monsters, no shady dealings, no companies doing my marketing, it's all my work and money, and it will get ripped and distributed illegally like all others (albeit with a lot less downloads than, say, Periphery or Animals as Leaders). Everytime that occurs, I'll get 0 back, so I go from the "potential sale" to the "guaranteed no sale" with a click. Now that many musicians are self-produced, the whole "taking from the evil corporate machine" thing needs to be taken with a grain of salt, more than ever before.... You are mixing two very diff...
