Free Comic Book Day Report
2008-05-07 15:44:00
Probably should have written this up Sunday, but was too tired from having fun on Saturday with the folks at Comic Fusion in Flemington, NJ. :-)My deep and sincere thanks to Bill and Stacy, for being genuinely fabulous comic book store owners. In all seriousness, I've never been in a store that is so welcoming of men, women, kids and families. Everyone who walks through the door is treated like a friend - and there's very little of the clubhouse atmosphere (I mean that figuratively and literally) one finds in many other stores. There were three indie artists at the store, cheerfully drawing pictures of anything or anyone for anyone who asked. (Thanks Glenn for my spiffy picture of Yuriko!) Kids got figurines as extra gifts and there were free posters, so most people ended up with a pretty good pile of get. :-) I was pleased to note that the number of kids who came in and were polite and interested (and interesting) significantly outweighed the number who had issues and made me want...

Free Comic Book Day at CAPE! 4 in Dallas
2008-05-04 04:25:00
I hope you all had an awesome Free Comic Book Day! We spent our Saturday afternoon at the 4th annual Comics and Pop-Culture Expo in Dallas. This yearly event is graciously sponsored by the good folks over at Zeus Comics. If you are ever in the Dallas area, I highly recommend you stop by Zeus Comics. It's a great shop with a ton of collectibles and -- get this -- every back issue is boarded and placed in a Mylite bag! Mylites, people, not the cheap stuff! There were a ton of guest appearances at the event, but I only took pics of those we met personally. We had a ton of comics from our collection to get signed, so we were pretty much all business. When you have two toddlers in tow, you have to mobilize quickly! First up is one of my favorite writers, Gail Simone. Gail is currently kicking butt with Wonder Woman (go pick 'em up!), but I only brought Birds of Prey books for her to sign this time. She is so generous to her fans and will sign anything you bring for her. I must have had...

Last week, Polite Dissent posted a great little analysis of the Free Comic Book Day offerings. I don’t want to steal Scott’s thunder so you can read it at his blog.  The comment I want to make is that if Dr. Scott can figure out how to research the comic books in his office, why can’t ...

This is an official Marvel press release (a little late, but here it is). I have no idea what's going on with the formatting here, but I spent about half an hour trying to fix it and I'm over it; I apologize for the look, but it's the best I could do:New York, NY (8/8/07) – Triple-A Baseball and Marvel Entertainment have teamed up for an exclusive partnership that brings together two true forms of Americana– baseball and comic books. Free Comic Book Day
2007-05-04 10:17:00
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 5th) is Free Comic Book Day! Go down to your local comic book shop and pick up a bunch of free titles. Today's Thing is a list some of the free comic books on the web. There's a zillion of them! I just recently started reading comics. I never really read many as a kid, but all the free ones on the web, especially the more adventurous adult titles got me buying a few. I've been reading the new Buffy comic (basically season 8 of the show) as well as The Goon, The Walking Dead and Y's The Last Man on Earth. Most of those are older comics, but have trade paperbacks out for them. Here's a short list of free online comic books, mostly by publisher:Image Comics---The Walking Dead and others.Marvel Comics---You need to register, but they have a ton of comics!Vertigo---All of the imprints first issues including Sandman, Preacher and others.Top Cow Comics---Tomb Raider, Witchblade and other cheese.A Directory of Online Comics---Lots of obscure, web-only stuff.Dar...
