It?s time to watch out for heatstroke!
2008-06-09 15:27:00
Warm weather is here, and already the stories of French Bulldogs almost dying from heatstroke are coming in. On French Bulldog Z, a reader writes in surprised that her Frenchie can’t walk a mile in 80 weather without almost passing out. I have a 6 month old, neutered, male French bulldog. I love to take walks and ...
The Boy is Growing Up?
2008-06-03 13:35:00
Dexter spent quite a bit of time this spring going through a fairly horrid - and fairly typical - gawky stage. His feet were too big for his body, his chest was too big for his body, his rear looked high, his head looked small, and his ears resembled satellite dishes. Add to this the fact ...
Sad News for Fashionistas and French Bulldog Lovers
2008-06-02 17:53:00
Yves Saint Laurent, long time French Bulldog owner and ‘tortured genius’ of Fashion, has died at age 71. While the rest of the world knows him mainly for his fashion, those of us with Frenchies likely know him best for his eccentric approach to dog ownership - over the years, he owned a never ending string ...

Fun With French Bulldog Scammers - Part Two
2008-05-24 14:54:00
So, when last we left our Nigerian scammer, he was apologizing for having inadvertently trying to sell me the same puppies a second time. Since I am both kind and forgiving, I sent him the following reply – Dearest James - I am sorry if I seemed harsh in my last email. It wasn’t on purpose. I ...
Fun With French Bulldog Scammers - Part One
2008-05-23 15:22:00
Like everyone else on the world wide interwebs, I’ve received my fair share of ‘Millionaire wants to give you his money’ and ‘Say, can I send you a $20,000 check for that $2,000 puppy?’ emails. I just mark them as spam, and delete them, since there’s not much payoff in playing with them, and answering them usually just gets your name and email address put on to a ‘try this gullible knucklehead’ list. That said, few things piss me off more than phantom puppy scammers - those evil jerks who invent cheap puppies that they ‘must sell’ due to death in the family, or their ‘missionary’ work in Africa. Yes, I know that they prey on the cheap - but they also prey on the naive, and those who truly do want to do some good. So, with time on my hands and a chip on my shoulder, I was in just the right mood when the following email came to my inbox - Hello there My name is mr James Blue i want to use this oppourtunity to inf...
Thursday Thirteen - 13 useful tools for grooming a French Bulldog
2008-05-22 11:47:00
I’ve limited this to the things I use over and over again - if not on a daily basis, at least with some regularity. Feel free to add your own in the comments section. 1. Rubber Curry This thing is just about the best item I’ve ever used for getting rid of loose hair and pet ...
A Memorial for Ellie
2008-05-21 11:34:00
If you are in the Toronto area, you are invited to join us this coming Sunday while we say good bye to our sweet baby girl. Sean and I have decided to scatter her ashes over Lake Ontario from the point at Cherry Beach. This was Ellie’s favorite place in the world, and we can’t think ...
French Bulldog Photo Blogging
2008-05-17 18:17:00
It’s finally warming up a little, so the dogs have been spending more time in the garden. Tessa likes to find a sunny spot, either outside or in ‘her’ chair, in front of the french doors. Delilah prefers bug hunting, or eating dandelions. Photos here on Flicker, or in the slide show below.

French Bulldog Plays with Tiger Cubs!
2008-04-30 04:56:00
Some of Zoological Wildlife FoundationÂ’s tiger cubs went to visit Napo, an amazing Euro Puppy USA French Bulldog male belonging to Spencer. They wrestled and played until exhaustion. Since then Napo has become friends with other exotics too since Spencer is one of the most valuable ZWF volunteers. More videos are forthcoming!!! No wonder why French bulldogs are one of the most popular breeds in the Euro Puppy family. Their clownish and outgoing personality seduces dog lovers of all kinds.

Easter Snowstorms, Old Photo Uploads and Fat Fat Journey
2008-03-26 14:46:00
I cannot believe how crappy our weather has been. Yesterday tossed a total white out blizzard at us. It dumped a good foot and change of snow on us - and this just after a thaw had finally started to clear out some of the snow we’d accumulated over the winter. From snow to mud and ...
Thank You, doG! French Bulldog Info is Back!
2008-03-25 20:16:00
Like most breeders, I broke down and cried like a baby when I read that K9Info was shutting down. K9Info, the on line repository of all things pedigree and record related, for almost all AKC registered breeds of dog, was invaluable to pedigree research. You could search for offspring of record, by partial kennel name, by ...
A Tribute to Mr. Bumby
2008-03-24 11:06:00
Mr. Bumby - a True Gentleman I meant to write about this earlier, but time and a bad email filing system got the better of me, and I do apologize for the lateness of this tribute. Mr. Bumby, beloved baby boy of David and Theresa of Chicago, passed away last summer. It took his mom Theresa a ...

I’ve got a ton of new Solo photos for you to peruse, but I also have some sad news - Solo has gone over to the darkside. Living in a house full of cats has convinced him to join forces with the catnip licking, litter pan using axis of evil. Next thing you know, he’ll ...
French Bulldog Party in AZ!
2008-03-20 17:04:00
After reading this, I will never again think I am overdoing it by baking Tessa a cake for her birthday and making the other dogs wear funny hats. Duke sure knows how to throw a birthday bash! If you’re out there and read this, we’d love some more party pictures! I am surprised, however, that Mz. ...

French Bulldog Walking in Durham
2008-03-18 03:49:00
I spent part of the afternoon walking Sailor and her daughter Ellie in Durham. As always, I brought my camera along, and got some great pictures (in spite of the two feet of mud on the ground). By the end of the afternoon, I was mud up to my knees, the dogs were mud up to ...
French Bulldog Hide n? Seek and Old Timer Nostalgia
2008-03-15 20:18:00
It is a simple fact of life that if you live with French Bulldogs, weird things are going to happen. Years ago, I had a panic attack when I realized I couldn’t find Leeza, our little cream French Bulldog puppy. We searched the entire house, calling her name, and then fanned out over the entire neighbourhood. ...
French Bulldogs at Crufts 2008
2008-03-14 13:02:00
Crufts is over for another year, and the Best of Breed winner is the simply stunning Ch. Birique Prinzessen JW - better known as “Sassi”. She was awarded this win by respected breeder/judge Dr. Christine Towner, and it is the icing on a career that has been nothing short of stunning. Sassi is the UK’s top ...
The French Bulldog Mafia
2008-03-05 18:14:00
I live my life with two separate packs of dogs. Pack one consists of Tessa, Sailor, Ellie, Penelope, Delilah, Journey, Tula and Dexter. Pack two consists of Bunny, Paris and Fanny. The separation isn’t arbitrary, but rather on what I’ve often considered to be a microcosm of Mafia families - two rival gangs, each eager ...
French Bulldog Coat Colors - or lack thereof
2008-02-26 16:31:00
I thought I’d write a second part to my article on French Bulldog coat colors, since it gives me a chance to get a terrible burden off of my chest - I’ve been perpetuating a lie. Yes, it’s true. All over the web, you’ll find sites parroting this line, from my initial article on coat colors ...
Wishbone Brakes for Westminster and Old Dogs with New Homes
2008-02-23 14:51:00
This post is sort of a big bunch o’ stuff I wanted to post all last week, but couldn’t, because the internet Gods were angry with me. I have made them an offering of a pureed 14.4 modem, so hopefully they are appeased and will keep my over priced, stupid, slow-ass satellite internet connection from crashing ...
Westminster Re-Cap - French Bulldogs, Patty Hearst and Unfair Hair Cut Adva
2008-02-12 21:54:00
Well, the judging is done, and yet again the Frenchie got overlooked for a frou frou poodle. C’est la vie. Apparently a poofy haircut counts for extra super duper bonus points. Actually, I don’t have a clue how good the poodle really is, since poodles are one of those breeds that all look startlingly similar ...
Timing is a Bitch, and the Romanov French Bulldog on Film
2008-02-02 14:52:00
I had been hoping for a nice, long break between litters, but as usual my girls have decided that they’d prefer to take my best laid plans and toss them out the window. To whit, Paris and Journey, the only two girls I had solid plans to breed this year, have both decided to come into season. Since they might not come in again for another 18 months, it’s now or never, in which case I choose ‘now’, of course. So, I’m skipping Wiarton today to haul Paris in for progesterone, LH and draminski testing. Since we are breeding her via frozen semen (Rebel’s frozen semen, in case you were wondering), timing is of the absolute essence. We’ll only inseminate her once, surgically. And yes, it’s expensive, thanks for asking. Like the oh so funny quote says - Want to know how to make a small fortune breeding dogs? Start with a large fortune. I’ll start hauling Journey in on Monday, when her blood flow is heavier - she’s in the very first ...

What is a ?working? dog?
2008-01-26 19:31:00
I spent most of last week flat on my back, sick with the flu. Thank God for Jane Austen novels and French Bulldogs that love to snuggle, because they are the only thing that can get me through a week of enforced bed rest and computer abstinence. There’s something about a snoring Frenchie warming your ...
More Solo Photos & Some Experimental Video
2008-01-23 01:21:00
It amazes me sometimes how many tricks and features my lovely Mac computer has that I remain blissfully unaware of. Evil Supercuteness Puppy Powers
2008-01-21 23:33:00
Solo’s E.S.P.P.* is growing - he is officially now able to ’smile’ almost on cue, he kicks his widdle feets if you tickle his tummy, and if you coo ‘Solooooo’ at him while holding him, he’ll jump up and lick your chin. The only hope for the world is if he decides to use his ...
Thursday Thirteen - 13 Movies with French Bulldogs in Them
2008-01-17 14:32:00
I missed Thursday Thirteen last week, because of the power outages and the need to write a long-ass update on the puppies. This week, I cheated and lifted part of my movie list from French Bulldog Z. Here’s a list of 13 movies that have French Bulldogs in them. Please note that I’ve chosen movie ...

Breed Popularity, Email Woes & Puppy Photos
2008-01-16 21:52:00
The AKC just released their annual registration figures for 2007. The list contains all of the usual popular breeds, with one exception - for the first time since 1935, the Bulldog has entered the top ten most popular breeds list. Bulldogs are most popular in Los Angeles, where they are second only to Labs. This popularity ...

Separated at Birth
2008-01-13 13:30:00
Separated at birth: Knut the infamous abandoned polar bear cub born at the Berlin Zoo - and now apparently named Flocke or Snowflake… … and our own Solo puppy. Not only do they look alike, but both - * have moms who are uninterested in raising them (altho’ Solo’s didn’t try to chomp on his head) * had to ...
Solo Photos and His First Video
2008-01-12 20:48:00
Solo is almost at two pounds, finally. He hit a sort of plateau when he was sick a week ago, but he’s been making up for lost time the last few days. He’s gone from eating just under an ounce per feeding to an ounce and a half and change - and this morning, he ...
Power Outages, Flying Puppies & Mouth Wars
2008-01-11 02:37:00
Like a lot of people in Ontario, we suffered through some crazy windstorms yesterday, resulting in a day of sporadic power outages. From about five in the morning on, our power was on and off throughout the day, causing me some major inconvenience, and not a small amount of worry over keeping my puppies warm. ...
Solo is Feeling Better? and a new video
2008-01-06 20:15:00
Well, Solo is feeling a bit better. Thanks to the advice I received from some list members, I spoke to my veterinarian, and we switched him over to Zithromax on Friday. It seems to have really worked - his check up Saturday morning confirmed his lungs are MUCH less congested, and much ‘drier’ sounding, although ...
Thursday Thirteen - 13 Best Reasons to Own a French Bulldog
2008-01-03 17:04:00
I’ve taken a certain amount of grief for a list I created for frenchbulldogz.org, called ‘Top Ten Reasons to NOT Own a French Bulldog‘. The list wasn’t created to be cruel, or for pointless reasons - it was created to help stop people from buying a Frenchie without understanding what they were getting themselves into. That ...
Happy New Year?s, From the Boring Dog Lady
2008-01-02 00:02:00
Sean and I spent New Year’s Eve at home, where we ate chips, a shrimp ring, and got wild by drinking a half bottle of wine. Woohoo! We’re officially boring dog people. Next up - I start whipping out photos of my dogs to show to strangers in the supermarket. Oh wait, I already do ...
Solo at Ten Days Old
2007-12-30 02:36:00
At ten days, Mae’s solo puppy boy (who, for now, has pretty much just been christened ‘Solo’) seems to be doing wonderfully. He eats like a piglet, wiggles non stop, and is generally a content little guy. I don’t like writing too much about him, since I’m afraid I’ll jinx him… He weighs 15.4 ounces, and is ...
Happy Boxing Day
2007-12-26 16:17:00
If you live in a Commonwealth country, you’re celebrating Boxing Day today (likely by shopping for discounted Christmas items). If you live in the USA, you probably have no idea what Boxing Day means. In the most simplistic terms, Boxing Day is simply the day after Christmas, December 26th. The history of the term ‘Boxing Day’ ...
Happy Night Before Christmas
2007-12-24 18:10:00
Mae’s baby boy is doing much, much better. He’s gained a full ounce and a half, which is an amazing turn around. I’m still bottle feeding him, now about every four hours instead of every two. The kids took some photos - I’ve been slacking off in the photo taking department, I fear. There are some of ...
A long night.. with more to come
2007-12-22 15:43:00
I’m starting to think I must be cursed. This boy isn’t gaining ANY weight - in fact, he’s lost weight. I was up all night trying to get him to nurse, but he just drops off the nipple as soon as I let go of him. Some nutracal perked him up a little bit, and he’s ...
Thursday Thirteen - 13 Most Useful Books on Dog Breeding
2007-12-20 16:11:00
Thirteen Things Most Useful Books for Dog Breeders I should note here that I don’t think that any book can ever replace the best source of information and advice on dog breeding, and that’s a mentor. A mentor is an older dog breeder who ‘takes you under their wing’ and offers hands on ...
