Sell Your Frequent Flyer Miles
2007-11-13 15:32:00
Good Morning! In keeping with our theme of frugal travel week, I'm doing a quick posting on a topic many people don't think about: airline miles. Have you ever had a ton of airlines miles, but haven't been sure about what to do with them?Well, - it turns out that airline miles are a commodity like any other. This means you can sell them! If you're interested in paying for your next vacation by converting miles to cash, there are a couple of things you can do:1) Sell Your Miles Personally. A great way to do this would be go through something like craigslist or ebay. Usually the price for a 25,000 domestic voucher is $300-500. You'll need to be sure about the transfer regulations and its important to be certain that the airline who is honoring your miles won't hassle you for making the transfer. United has the worst reputation in this regard. 2) Go To a Broker. The main idea is that a broker can tell you how much your miles are worth and whats the best price for them....

Finnair seeks Indian frequent flyer partner & third destination
2007-07-30 05:59:00
Finland's flag carrier Finnair, which operates two flights to as many Indian gateways from Helsinki, is working on a frequent flyer partnership with an Indian carrier as a precursor to a code share agreement. Finnair already has interline agreements with the likes of Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Indian, under which airline partners accept each other's travel tickets. "We are trying to find an Indian partner for frequent flyer programme," Finnair Director (India region) Taina Tornstrom said, adding this would take the airline closer to a code share agreement. A code share pact would allow airlines to sell tickets on routes and flights operated by a partner as their own. Finnair, whose second Indian service to Mumbai was added within eight months of flying to New Delhi in October last, has also asked the Finnish government to revisit the air services agreement with India to increase the number of flights to the sub-continent. Under the existing agreement, New Delhi allows tw...

They cover most of the routes in the world. If you choose 3 airlines and each belong to one of the alliances, you can travel anywhere with mileage pocketedProblem if you don't do itSome people take flights that don't fit their schedule well just to earn miles in their preferred airlines. One of my friends, who's a Cathay Pacific member, picked a flight very early in the morning just for the Miles. Enroling in 3 programs avoids this unncessary compromise. If he is also a Singapore Airline member, he could have gotten a much better schedule between Singapore and Hong KongExmaple of how this is done - Hong Kong as base city, with lots of traveling (>50 sectors a year) within Asia and moderate traveling (10 - 20 sectors a year) outside AsiaPreferred options depending on your routing.
